  • The Maida family has moved to Oregon, and daughter Tami wants to play quarterback for the high school football team. There's just one problem. She's a girl. With everyone from the coach to her next door neighbor against her, she's out to prove that not only can she can play football, but she can win the state championship. (Based on a true story)

Probably damn few. You’ve shown your ignorance here quite abundantly. This happened, thus there’s no reason why this movie should be banned.

This movie was made im my hometown of McMinville Oregon. I was 22 years old at the time.. I graduated from McMinnvile High School in 1978 "Home of the Grizzles" ! At aprox. 34:41 I can be seen standing on the ramp that leads up to the stadium. I'm the young girl with blonde hair, wearing light tan pants and a brown leather jacket. I'm standing next to a little boy with his arm draped over the railing. My big "movie moment" ! Sure takes me back ! I'll be 60 years young this year.

Fortunately this movie is a docudrama. Based on actual accounts.
If you view the credits, Tami Maida was a technical consultant for the film.

The team are so kind with her, I liked so much how they treat her like a little sister outside the game and in practices, and inside the field they treat her with such respect. I liked a lot too they went to buy her a dress and also the lady on the shop that sold them the dress cheaper without them notice it ♥♥♥

    • @joec9693
      @joec9693 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I always appreciated that they never did the "Jerk Jock" stereotype and that the team only cares about the fact that she can actually play really well. They were never mean just awkward at first not knowing how to act around her (tackling her but apologizing for it) but once they saw she could actually play that was all they needed to know. And once the most popular boys in the school accepted her pretty much everyone else accepted her, it was instead the parents the "adults" that acted like stereotypical high school kids mean comments, gossiping behind peoples back very cliquey.

The scene when Mrs. Maida is invited to her neighbors home, ostensibly for coffee, and she receives a heartfelt apology for the cool treatment her family had received is very well done.

Then you see her realize what they came for and how much those guys loved Tami and how much they wanted her to feel as loved as she really was and to feel like a lady. I guarantee (at least in the movie) she ate the cost of that dress to do something nice for the guys and for Tami. I loved the looks on their faces when she told them $125. My dad is in this! He likes to say he “co-started with Helen Hunt in one of her first movies.” He’s the Serpico-looking cameraman who enters at 23:51. 😂

Very cool. I played with the real tammi Philomath oregon. We came in first that year. Lost only 1 game. She had to carry me her back and run 50 yrd in practice. I felt so fat. But we were paired. Same weight. Good times. We made the news. ❤️🥳

The SAME thing you're thinking - HAPPENED in 1983 too!!! 😆😊😃😉
More so, because we didn't have AIDS, barely any criminal sex, or any of the degenerate, low life, no scruples idiots like now...

Great movie. Helen Hunt is one of my fav actresses. Still think her greatest performance is in 'As Good As It Gets'. I'm a little puzzled why everybody thought BJ was a better match. Her and Scot were great together.

This is a great movie and I really love this and the way she is playing football. This is absolutely amazing to watch her playing as a quarterback and she good throwing it to the wild receiver. And most of all this is absolutely amazing video .😀🏈

This movie is so funny, I find myself cracking up throughout the movie. Especially love how the guys welcome Tammy by saying, Tammy & her super-bra!!Her teammates love her & the men need their heads examined, along with their nosy wife's who make everything their business. Her awesome family stands behind her in this situation. Love her mom's stand against the overgrown female bullies (supposed ladies with dresses on): who need a spokesperson!!

    What a wonderful movie..
Helen is and always was an Outstanding Leading Actress.
The supporting actors and actresses did a Fantastic job.
Now,I think I've seen most all her movies.
    What a Woman.
Fell in Love with her first time I ever saw her...
