  • As the 2022-2023 Cornhole season gets under way, I am trying to decide which league to devote some time to on the intermediate level. The American Cornhole League or the American Cornhole Organization? Both have events near me and a local/regional cornhole competetion options. Let me know in the comments which one you would chose.

ACO is more prevalent in my area but I'd still vote for local stuff. There's a couple local tournaments in my town every week, I have to drive 40+ miles to attend an ACO event that happens once a month.

I'm just curious if you can play aco with acl stamped bags & vice versa!

Depends on what type of tournament you play in. The higher tier of gameplay you’re playing in, the stricter the rules get. For example if I go play in a Regional Nearby, as long as my bags meet standards, we’re good. Although if I go to a Major, it HAS to have the ACO Preapproval stamp. ACL is a bit different as well. I have a wide range of bags for both Leagues just for this.

ACL hands down. Most of your locals are ACL affiliated.

So this is not what you asked but I thought I would share. I’ve never played ACO but I have played ACL and TCL. Honestly I am a bigger fan of TCL. This is very popular in Texas but Oklahoma also plays it. You should try that out sometime.

This is only my opinion. I feel that some see the ACO as more of a "minor league" organization. Almost a stepping stone to get to the ACL. I dont mean that negatively. Just in interview and talks I have seen the toughest competition is going to be in the ACL. That might just be at the high level player standpoint/ big name players. But even some of the up and comers I have seen were dominant in the ACO and have now have to almost rebuild their name up in the ACL. Also just seems the bigger companies like the bag manufactures and what not focus more on the ACL/ building their presence and focusing on getting their stamps vs ACO. Being newer into cornhole might be good to start with the ACO and work your way up. Lastly just seems a lot of people don't really talk much about the ACO. I have never even seen an event or seen much advertisement for them. I think they are a great option for players but their brand just isn't as well known. ACL also has better payouts due to their size and sponsorships. So people trying to make a career or even win a purse are looking at that probably a little as well.
The standard currently in cornhole is the ACL but that is not to say there isn't room out there for an ACO or even another league to come through and gain market share. Maybe there will be "LIV" type of action that will come up and sweep the top ACL players out of that league and join some new league in the future. Sorry to be so verbose but just my thoughts on it.

Don't focus on one or the other.. For me I do loca and ACL.. ACO doesn't even come to NY to even check them out. With ACL you have your regional directors and you will see regional tournaments all over your state.. ACO not so much..
If there is an ACL match to far but also local match that many will go to..I will go to the local. Locals you will see the same people and know the good players. These same people will also play in the ACL the most.

ACO seems like it’s ran by a bunch of good people but the ACL does seem to be more professional and their roster is levels above ACOs

Acl is far better. They have divisions you throw in, the payout is better, also an acl local blind draw is the size of an aco regional there’s far more players and higher competition. Aco sucks

ACL let’s you step over the line before your bag hits the board. ACO has gotten a little stricter with their rules. Especially the stepping over the line. I like the family atmosphere of the ACO. ACL seems to stuffy for me

I think stepping over the line should be illegal. If you can't get a 1lb bag that far without stepping in front of the boards then workout
