Respect to them for respecting one of the most powerful voices ever in rock history, Layne Staley.
🕊🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🕊🌠🙏🏼🌠
Layne will always be the greatest in my opinion. They def did him justice.
ya indeed, Layne was a fuckin Warlord.
nice to see a respectable shout out
It sounds just like Alice in chains
Grunge.....
This crowd doesn’t even understand they have a legend in their presence, covering a legend.
Well put!
indeed.
a legend ft. a legend covering a legend
Amen🙏.. 🕊🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🕊🌠🙏🏼🌠
The real legends are Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley.
Layne definitely would be happy with this one what a awsome cover!
From a diehard chains fan…they absolutely killed this cover. Best chains cover I’ve ever heard
agree
Right?!? That was seriously amazing.
❤
Would by Korn is pretty awesome
KoRn fans have entered the chat
This... was much better than I thought it was going to be.
I thought so too, but then I see the autotune comments and the original and I'm a bit disappointed.
I was going to same the same thing haha :D Was not expecting this much power! Gavin really fucking rocked!
I was scared!! I prayed before it started.
yeah more like I knew it was going to be epic, but I didn't realize it was going to be rage-mode epic lol
Oh shit..this rocks
2 years later and now BB, Bush, and Alice In Chains are touring together. So sick! Can NOT wait!!!
I remembered this, and had to look it up the day that I bought my tickets. I'm seeing them in Aug. Can't believe I'm going to see these 3 bands together.
This aged so well honestly man
You are so so lucky..man.!!!
Same!!! I can't wait!
@@faviolacuevas4368 wait what when and where? How much are tickets????
It's 100% AWESOME that GREAT musicians and bands continue to play Alice in Chains.....its great that the GREATS recognize how fantastic AIC was.
CHEERS to ALL
One of the best!! Even my kids like it! True legends
@yomama6350 YES! Had the privilege to see them several times live. The best was a place called Taft Theater that holds like 2800 people, and we were 11 rows from the stage front and center.
CHEERS!!!
@@duanewright1412 wow, so you got to practically taste their sweat?? Just joking, I wish I was a concert-going beast at that time. I was just a couple years too late 😞
Rossdale has the growl in his voice to give this cover justice for Layne that’s for damn sure
Their bassist killed this, the whole band really nailed this cover
The song is not hard per se its the tone and strumming pattern that are tricky.
Layne, Kurt, Scott, Chris, and Chester aren’t gone.... they live on through all of us. That’s what I love about music. It transcends flesh. Once it’s created, it just simply IS... forever.
Rock on everyone!
What a great thought
and Mike Star
LEMMY IS GOD
Thanks for including Scott. He gets left out too often.
Their new guy, Jeff Butt is great. Sounds nearly like Scott but does his own thing.
can´t be said in a better word then you said it brother..
Rossdale looks like he hasn't had a birthday since 1998.
Now Im not gay, but go look at gavin in 1999. Good lord
Because he got rid of that witch. He de-aged.
@@Cosmic_42 same here. Back then I thought everyone woman in the world had to think he was one of the sexiest men alive. But hey, i grew up in a time where girls were hanging magazine posters of Axl Rose in their lockers.
Same pants different day
haha!! So true!
Wow, Gavin effing nailed it. Did it justice. Excellent cover.
2 of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite bands. Incredible cover!
You'll grow up one day kid.
I agree 😊
That’s exactly what I was thinking Lil Moco. That was fucking rad! When’s the last time you heard someone say rad? Hahahaha
Toe 83 😂
@@beemelonhead1 loser
After decades of failed attempts, someone realized it takes two vocalists to cover Layne. Finally, someone cracked the code. ❤
Great comment!
Jerry Cantrell's vocals were always paired with Layne's. AIC always had two vocalist.
@@kimbre01 Even now with Jerry lead paired with DuVall's vocals their voices together almost emulate Layne's imo
@@kimbre01Jerry's harmonizing with Layne is what made it so perfect, in my opinion.
@@kimbre01came to say the same.
Bro, the harmony between their voices is incredible
Like Layne and Jerry.
Autotuned as fuck
@@mauroferra95
Come on… Let’s be real here. I grew up with loving Bush in the 90s, but this sounds way too unlike Gavin’s voice. It is definitely extremely polished and obviously fucked with. How old are you? Perhaps your ears are not able to tell when audio has been altered or not, as only those of us who are older and grew up in a time where such a thing didn’t exist can pick it up easily.
@@mauroferra95 I have never really listened to either one of these singers but it is so clear that the auto tune is heavy af on their voices. I had to stop and say “why does their voices sound like that?” To me it is borderline unlistenable. I’m guessing you’re pretty young and haven’t heard much singing that isn’t auto tuned
SYMPATHY TO EVERYONE WHO DID NOT LIVE THEIR YOUTH IN THE 90’s!!!

Yep. I actually got to catch the 80s and 90s. The last 2 decades that it was actually fun to be alive.
Not only is this a beautiful cover, hearing the
crowd SCREAM along to a song they didn't expect to hear is just so epic . Iconic song for generations and generations to come
@gavin rossdale Rebought your album the other day. CD 😊👍🏼
This is so good but you must hear “Live Not Survive” by SLT 🤘🔥🎧
Just saw Alice in Chains, Bush, and Breaking Benjamin live 10-7-22. What an amazing show.
you never saw Alice in Chains without Layne
@@youreracist9583Read my mind. Speaking truth!
Ben brought me up on stage when the St. Judes kids were brought on stage. I use a wheelchair and the crowd wouldnt rest til he brought me up there too. It was like a dream. I got to stay on stage the whole show! I love BB and Bush! This is awesome!
Fucking aweome!! horns up!!!
Nice!!!!!
Great story. God bless and Rock on
That’s so awesome!
Awesomeness!
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting them to do Chains any justice by covering this song...but I am actually impressed. Their vocal harmony is beautiful, and the drummer echoes Sean Kinney very well.
And that bass tone!
Bass tone is on point 100%. But I don’t really hear any vocal harmonies. They’re also singing in the same low register together. Either way, pretty cool
I think very sooo
The drumming was very nicely done. Honestly, anyone expecting them to go out there and harmonize like Layne and Jerry, or expecting either of them to do what Layne could do, is delusional. And that's really not a knock on either of these guys. It was a very good cover.
th-cam.com/video/I7UjlrhZ57Q/w-d-xo.html U gotta hear this!!
Love it, but honestly it makes you appreciate the power of Layne’s voice
t. agree
give credit where credits due xoxo peace and love
Word
Layne was , is and will be puzzling musicians and vocal coaches with that insane way of not singing but belting out his enitre heart , soul and hauntingly Melodie’s
yup nobody comes close to Layne on this song
Wow. Bravo. Their harmony overlap was premium. Not an easy cover AT ALL but they absolutely nailed that. I honestly haven’t heard a better cover of this epic banger
Hint: Search for "Opeth Would" and you'll hear a better cover :O
this is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🐺
I'm guessing they practiced the crap outta those vocals...like, don't fuck this cover up...don't fuck Layne up!
Yeah, I have heard much worse AIC covers.
This was epic? ROFL
@@5urg3x I love Opeth but they recorded it in a studio. BB and GR did it live. Difficult to sync two different vocals on the spot
Jerry Cantrell is just as important to the sound as layne was , these guys did the best cover because they harmonize very well together , love it!
Yea. This doesnt compare much to the real thing, but thats only because they were just unbeatably beautiful together
So many people don’t realize how much Jerry did vocally for AIC.
Amen
Agreed
Of course, Jerry wrote 80% of the songs
Gavin hasn't aged a day since I was in high school in the 90s. His voice is still as great. Loved this cover and Layne would absolutely be proud!
💯👍
That's because he really IS a vampire mwahahahahaha
@@chucknorrison7618 If it were real and someone would need to convince me vampires existed and they said "Gavin is 400 years old"... Yeah, makes sense. Dude hasn't changed a bit in 30 years. The fucking guy rocking leather pants, like a boss, in his 50s!!
Yes, thats creepy actually. He still looks the exact same.
From this you can see how unique, powerful and special layne was! The only one!
Six is my favorite of all time because of the feeling and skill that were put into all they did.
Agreed Layne s tone alone is haunting and hard to duplicate
Layne was the master

Cantrells vocals underneath are severely underrated.
I usually just roll my eyes when someone else tries to sing Alice in Chains BUT, they did an amazing job. Not an easy thing to do. I love Breaking Benjamin, Alice In Chains and Bush too so I really enjoyed this.
Possibly the best cover of Would I’ve ever heard. Nope, it definitely is. Well done.
This was really good but I think Korns version was a little bit better.
Their voices are extremely pitch corrected.
It's truly the only one I've ever gotten through to the end. It is really good. Usually it makes me sick to my stomach hearing someone cover Layne. Nicely done.
Agreed
Completely agree. Gave me chills.
Is it me or Gavin's tone in this song is insanely good :o
Same here I had to skip back
Nah it’s the tone
Not just you.... Im freaking out myself. This might be the best cover ever.
We've lost a ton of excellent singers in the years past but Rossdale is still as good as ever.
Agreed! 💯
Jesus Christ. This was one hell of an AIC cover

Holy shit! I just found this and can’t believe how well they fucking nailed it!
Of all the bands that have covered this song, this is by far THE best cover to this day.
Jfc this is the best version I have ever heard of Would. I think dude from BB would be the karaoke king of all time
That bass player's tone is dialed in like he was Mike fuckin' Star. Nicely done for sure.
I feel that too. That is pretty dialed in and mudding along. Pretty insane. Thats how its suppose to sound. Excellent.
musically they NAILED it.
vocals were less than desirable.
Right?!?? I'm pretty critical, massive AIC fan..and even I'm good with this lol..They did a hell of a job..I think Layne and Mike would approve ❤️
When that riff started I was like.. "holy shit... "
Right bro they sound JUST LIKE AIC its insane actually
I’ve never seen a weaker crowd during such a powerful performance like I’m speechless
Truth
I completely agree, I was really bummed how lame this crowd was. These guys did an amazing job (much better than I had expected tbh and it's no hate on them, I love both vocalists but when anybody tries to do Layne they usually fail pretty spectacularly which is just a testament to how incredible Layne's voice was) and I'm so happy I stumbled on this clip.
Um... it was in Reno. I grew up there and the only good thing about Reno is leaving it behind... 🤣

Little Things remains my favorite.

they still have, their new record is great.
still friggin' great live, too. saw them last summer. Gavin is an incredible performer
I saw Gavin sing earlier this year and let me just say his voice really is even better live than recordings
this is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🐺🔥
They actually didn’t hack the shit out of it!!! Big shoes to fill singing that one!!! RIP Layne😔
I’ve on seen BB live in concert once but they are must to see! They cover a lot of other artist song and didn’t butcher any! They are FANTASTIC live!
Auto tune bud.
Gary Hernandez that’s how benjamin sounds tho ‘bud’... lmaoooo
Idk if you only listen to their newer auto tune stuff, but back in the day, they sounded raw. I wish i could meet you in person and break your teeth with a roll of quarters.
Gary Hernandez Wish you would try it I love fkn tough guys up!!!
Ben is so humble and that's what makes this so special because he still remembers and feels what he did when he was a teenager singing with him. This is why I love Ben and bb so much he is so down to earth.
Brings tears to my eyes all the musicians we have lost. This is an amazing cover. It shows just how amazing Laynes voice and musical talent truly was.
RIP Chris Cornell, Layne, and Scott weiland!
Wow. What a cover! I argue with my wife daily (Almost, saying that Layne wasn't that big of a vocalist) - when I see Gavin and Ben pushing their limits....I'm sold.
Play this with the original - I wouldn't even know the difference.
Crazy how it takes 2 incredible vocalists singing in harmony to even begin to capture the surface of what Layne's voice was like. And seeing BB live was one of the best concerts in terms of fidelity I have seen to date. Love them all but Layne was off the charts.
Layne was always harmonizing with Jerry Cantrell.. just saying 🤷🏻♀️
@@momster_z haha totally fair, i strictly meant it took these two to sound similar to layne when he sang his solo parts.
Not to mention they had some form of pitch correction- something layne never used once
He means in chorus. Jerry has a great voice but he cant nail those high notes
With massive amounts of autotune to boot
Their vocals harmonized unbelievably. Jerry guaranteed approves and Layne is smiling down.
Thats autotune
Beyond that

actually....
layne is throwing up because of this garbage
I think Layne is smiling up.
Gavin Rossdale is the only singer that I heard who can sing a cover of this song. Respect.

I might be wrong but I think their cover is not in the same tone as the original but I think a bit down.

Well, not really a cover but… some guy named William Duvall can do it pretty good.

Tell me about it, he is leaps and bounds better than these 2, respectively
I think the sarcasm may have surpassed a few folks. Need a font for that lol
Haha right!

Still watching this in 2024. The fact that they didn't do a Bush song, they didn't do a Breaking Benjamin song. They did a Alice in Chains cover and nailed it live! Just incredible, amazing singers
Alice in Chains is my all-time favorite band and while no one will ever be as good as the originals (RIP) this is still an amazing cover. I'm impressed, how the fuck has Gavin not aged at all? Is he a vampire or what?
Meanwhile I've grown into an old grandma. He must be.
His ex wife's vagina was magic. Maybe she should have released those candles instead of Gweneth Paltrow.
The key to looking good when you're older is to be good looking when you're younger.
subjective, original is great obviously, but me and evidently many others find this better, not by a slight, but by a lot, technically and sonically.
its still aic's composition and lyrics tho, without them there wouldn't be this, and if its a sentimental song then you'll prefer the nostalgic sound. so ''as good'' is subjective to you cause its -your- all time favorite band. its a rendition, its not meant to sound the same its also in every way( except sentimentally to you) better.
homage is paid, i love alice in chains and i love this song, and you can like whatever you want, you can dislike this if you dont like it, its entirely your choice, but bold statement to make, especially on their video, especially when its obviously paying tribute to alicei n chains, ben opened saying it was a core memory and how much of a fan he was, here he is years later, doing what he loves, something immensely monumental to him, and again, objectively better than the original, for you to try to render it obsolete ''ah no one will ever be as good but its good.. for you'' could've just said i love alice in chaincs and this song and its a great cover, it communicated all that matters without the ignorance.
@@thatguyaxel6343 you open with "subjective" and then switch to "objectively better than the original"? it's subjective no matter what. it's just your opinion

Christopher Bingham Yeah and Razorblade Suitcase is actually a really good album
Christopher Bingham Yeah I know I just like all the songs on Razorblade Suitcase compared to 16 Stones where there are a few that are not that good. There also a couple of really good songs on Science Of Things like 40 Miles From The Sun
Don’t be dismayed. It just means that Gavin is completely a fan of AIC and the band was still totally into the song.

If you think this song really sounds like Gavin, your ears don’t work very well. This is clearly altered audio. I know his voice very well, and it hit me like a wall how much this didn’t sound like him.
He is older now… Don’t expect him to not get technical help these days from the industry who likes everything to be glossy/polished - as when singers get older, their voices get worse (see Eddie Vedder singling Given to Fly live as a tribute to Michael J Fox, for example... that’s what our musical heroes REALLY sound like as they get older. They can’t hit those notes like they used to).
This wasn’t how Gavin really sounded - I guarantee that!
Gavin's voice is just breathtaking
I'm highly impressed... Both of these guys have amazing voices. I love their confidence in this. This goes to show you how bad ass Layne's voice was though. Layne's voice was so incredible and powerful it takes both of their voices to match his.

You better put some respect on Jerry’s names also with the beautiful harmonys that layne and jerry has we’re unreal.

Thank you for posting this incredible video. A perfect song choice, they absolutely nailed it.
Gavin is an icon and legend...no one sounds this cool...so we thank you as always.
I think this is the best live cover for this song..
I absolutely LOVE Breaking Benjamin and BUSH. Hearing them sing one of the greatest songs ever has made my day. Gavin Rossdale is so horribly underrated.
This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE AIC song. They absolutely knocked it out of the park!!! Layne is definitely smiling ❤
the way he hugs gavin when he walks out is so sweet, hes so humbled, and everything about this is so amazing
US Army veteran here that has finally started getting treatment for PTSD after living in denial for 20 years that I was okay.
I wasn't and now I'm trying to find my own selfworth, confidence, and the ability to live, love, and trust again while correcting the wrong.
Thank you for your service and Many prayers to you for you to find peace ! ❤
@LayneStaley-vs4th I really appreciate that more than words can say.
Huge respect for Breaking Benjamin and Gavin Rossdale. Amazing version.
The intro got my attention, then it went thru me like a dream and I was back in 1992, drinking beer and watching Headbanger's Ball. The vocals and the entire band were into it.
Amazing
AIC is my favorite band of all time and I have always said Gavin Rossdale is an underrated all around musician. Lots of talent singing songs from lots of talent. God I love Grunge and Rock!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
