What n where would the Police have ever been without this fantastic guy? .Andy Summers was, is, n will ALWAYS be my favourite member of this awesome threescore. It is now New Years Eve which is actually Andy's Birthday. .Happy 77th Birthday Andy...You are still absolutely gorgeous and I will always love you! !😀😀😀😀💘💘💘
The three of them added something unique to that band and they evolved over time. I love Sting's solo work. But the Police as a band was something to behold. I saw them twice.
What an incredibly under appreciated guitar player , But also what a totally cool dude too. Everyone in The Police was impossibly talented , well educated and well spoken and really cool as well, I mean that band had it all.
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI Sting got most of the limelight, and even at Andy's solo concert a few weeks ago, his post-Police songs played solo in a small venue (so one would think harder core fans attending) didn't get anywhere near the level of applause that his 40+ year old Police songs did although they represent the vast majority of his career.
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI I think it's just that he wasn't a guitar hero. All Police fans & those from the times know how excellent he's been. But if you're just someone who's liked their hits over the years, you've probably never even heard his name. But even that's not unusual at all. There are so many fantastic players from big bands that can't be named by most. But he's certainly a very big name for anyone who loves music or The Police.
The damn stupid TH-cam "underappreciated" post. He's loved by Police fans, he's respected by his peers, he's a success. If idiots don't know him then who cares about them?
Oh, Raiff! So do I. This is the power of a true artist. Imagine having the power to bring people to such emotions with your musical skill. I think music is like real actual magic.
@75pmfx.me How is that amazing? Its one thing to write something on paper its another thing to play it and make it a reality. I watched Sting attempt to play some of the songs he wrote when he was in his 30s and it was less then amazing in practice. Without Andy those ideas would've never been realized.
I finally saw Andy solo a few weeks ago in Virginia, USA, and from the same distance and angle as this video. Amazing experience. I only wish more people appreciated his superb independent work as much as his 40+ year old Police work. His instrumental recordings have been much of my work caffeine across those 40 years.
Paul, Cool of you to share that. I’m glad to know that we share a similar ear. I’d be curious to know some of your favorite instrumentals by him because I was shocked by some of the songs you had on your TH-cam page. Some of the songs, you’ve posted by some of the bands are some of my favorite songs as well and I never find anyone who likes the same stuff I do. Anyway, I’d be intrigued to hear back. Your west coast music junkie, pen pal, Brian
Was he selling his old photo book, or a new one? He's a talented quirky photographer in his own right. I remember the early police photo book he did. Sting and Andy, lots of groupie pics. Stewart hanging out with every kind of musical instrument you could imagine. It was a really neat book - way different than the 'press pack' style road book.
Andy Summers and his guitars have had an incredible life together. After playing these songs countless of times...he doesn't come across as jaded by it. Andy's humility and heart come across every note. It's all there, in the music. I'm so moved by this lovely performance. 💗
Time flies. Still going strong 💪. Andy Summers is on of many musician herroes I have. His playing and his guitar voicings and sound always stands out. His own style . And he will soon be 80. 💪 God bless.
Thank you to the UL for sharing this wonderful 'moment'...would love to have been there....Andy' playing always gives me goosebumps and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Simply stunning.
Dear Andy ,I 've been admiring your game since I was a teenager ! From the first records of the POLICE ! I started buying your solo records ! God grant you good health ! Alexander 1962 . RUSSIA .
The Telecaster suits him perfectly. I played one once and the notes rang out in tremolo and with such precision that I was amazed. It’s great if you play ringing notes or triplets or use effects. All of which he’s a master of. I will always be a fan of Andy Summers and his playing. Also, his sense of humor. He’s witty. 👏🏻🎸😎
Took me decades but I've just barely begun to scratch the surface in regards to what he did with the Police. He was the guy who joined Stewart's drumming and Sting's catchy bass melodies. Andy is the man when it comes to music IQ.
Andy Summers opened my mind to different kinds of music. I was a kid in the late 70s and I read an article how he was originally a session player. I always wondered why his playing was so unique as a kid. Never looked at music the same.
I too grew up in the late 70s as a kid and discovered The Police in the early 80s(ghost in the machine, Zenyatta Mondatta). Andy’s guitar style is no doubt unique and even hypnotic. There’s never been a band quite like them since. Appreciate your words.
I'd love to see the rest of this, whatever it was. If I'd known Andy Summers was out there on a speaking tour, I would have packed up all my Andy summers solo CDs and gone to see him, and maybe get them signed.
I happened to find out about his solo show about 4 days before showtime. Also, meet and greet was an option, so I went. He signed my Police cds and took a pic with me. Very cool experience considering I had just met Stewart Copeland a few weeks earlier at his solo show. He too signed my cds.
There were only three bands for me then - Men at Work, Rush and the Police. Andy and Alex made me want to learn to play, which wound up leading to many years as a working musician. He's such a unique player, but he's mainly only appreciated by musicians. Guitar fans don't seem to be aware of him. Heck, even Alex Lifeson, who was also influenced by Andy in the 80s (you can hear Andy's influence on Alex all over Rush's Signals) was only finally getting recognition by the general public as Rush came to their conclusion.

Andy Summers MADE the Police with his incredibly unique talent for chord voicings riffs and composition. The greedy bastard Sting's music and career after The Police were HEAVILY influenced by and appropriated from Andy's style and musicality.
Soo Soooooo Good! Yes, a very underappreciated guitar player. Police were and still are, IMO, a great band. According to Copeland they get along as friends better NOT being together as a group. That's very sad. Honestly, even with a little age on them now. They could still bring the house down. Put aside your petty differences PLEASE and do a couple more Albums!! It's not too late. Andy Summers I totally dig your playing!!

You don't hear rich lush chorus like that so much these days. It truly defines his sound.
I was there and met him afterwards... Such a memorable night! Can't believe he was 77 yo old here.
Why can't you?
Whimsically beautiful!! One of my favorite guitarists from my all time favorite band.

Lucky to see them live back in 83. I flew in on some Jamaican flying saucer.
I too saw them in ‘83. Special moment in time.
a sounded and visual journey, Andy's creativity intact!

You would not think it but this guy has a great sense of humour and is bloody fantastic! The later being obvious! Love you Andy
Met him in 1984 and he was also down to earth.
Happy Birthday Andy. Stay save
So good what a superstar!
That is a seriously tricky riff to pull off. Watching him here being like “who wrote this dang this is hard”
Fantastic, thank you for posting this
You’re welcome. Glad to have been able to share this.

Sublime. Incredible.

Appreciate that. It was moving in such an intimate setting.
That's wonderful.I'm a Fan of The Police,Andy Summer's and Telecasters.
Wonderful .
i love how he incorporated jazz chord melody playing into this
I kept expecting to see Sting's lawyers rush onto the stage and start suing Summers' ass....
WoW!!!

Wicked
There was a cover band of The Police, they were called Fair Cop. The singer had red hair. They were caught red-headed!
Hottest band in the world ..back in the day - as the kids say 🙄
Shuts your face I am talking to my invisible friends. LOL
Alas, we have all gotten ...old.
beautiful .. fan of the police all my life
I love AMJ. I love you Frank.
Does anyone know what that says at 1:45?
All I can make out is “Beware of Andy”
Super super late, but I think it says,
"BEWARE OF ANDY
He's small... But he knows kung fu"
Best guess, at least
I like the Withnail version: "Messitch ina boddle"... You must partake of a few wines ... It's useful for Making Time.
Music is an international language if you bother to listen.
Someone make tabs for this please!!!
I added tags. Hope it helps.👍🏼

Nice but could have been shortened to maybe 3 minutes

"You and that bass player have something special going on, but what you really need is me!"
clearly the 250th best guitarist of all time
I dislike this because of your sardonic wit
25th
A message in a bottle.......hmmmm
Andy officially retired..I guess would be so much better is he had a percussionist
never liked his playing (just a personal preference)
I've given andy a second chance and it still sucks!!!!
Lame.......yawn...
I think it needs vocals ,drums, and bass...
Horn section?
Nothing lame here except for your comment.
I’ve been going through a few of his performances and I honestly find him overrated.
Con artist, maybe you can write a catalogue of songs that you contribute 2 and we'll see if you are overrated.
Terrible
joke not funny enough, try another
Probably you're a psychopath......no feelings at all,not even for good music..poor you!
