Joe, I recently found you here, thank goodness! been a collector since Matchbox of the 50s. Running joke with my insurance agents is I can own one(heck, several dozens) of these cars without their crazy rates! My local dealers over the years have closed, your programs help, Great Job!
Hi, Paul - Welcome aboard, man! You speak the truth - we can have all the cars we want - and no insurance, LOL (well, there's insurance for collections, but you know what I mean!). I'd love to see your Matchbox collection - join us on Facebook (under Heavy MeTal Models) and post a few pics. The guys would love it, too. Thanks for watching!
Nice editing Job Joe. The intro with the morphing shots were a nice touch. Bet that took like "5 minutes" didn't lol. :P I was going to say the same thing you said at the end , i would also like to see a solid color version. Knowing AUTOart like we do they probably will though. They did it with many of their other Vipers, Porsche's ,BMW and such. I know if money and space was endless i could easily fill a room with AUTOart 1/18th. This model shows why. It is just getting better and better with these guys. Nice review bud ,keep em coming.
Ha! Yeah, that first bit was a bit of a nightmare (only kidding - I love doing this stuff). It's a really cool car - got more coming up. Thanks for watching!
Good morning! I haven't got the Viper - I used to - but I do have a Europa around here somewhere. Once we get the new Aa stuff done, I'll be happy to grab it and out it on the show. Thanks for watching!
This is a great model from a great maker.... it seems like every car just gets better and better, and they're managing to keep up the quality and level of features. Thanks a lot for watching!
Hey Joe! Love all of your videos. Where do you purchase your autoart models. I can't find any local store near me that sells them and I am too busy to sit around all day waiting to sign off on the package when it arrives in the mail. I would like to collect more of these models.
Hello - I get these direct from AUTOart; some of the older ones were purchased from various retailers and from eBay (which I haven't done in a while, LOL). Thanks for watching (and for the kind words, too)!
Hi there, this looks like a good model, buy you ask what else has a better modern engine for under $500? I have the AA CCX, F1, Aventador , Aventador J, Veyron Supersport, Mazda 787, but for me the best is the Nissan R390 - check it out. The only engine I have seen equivalent is the BBR Enzo - and I also paid under $200 for my BBR Enzo.
There are some GREAT engines in this segment (lucky us!), and it seems that someone is always raising the bar (lucky us, again!). Those are all beautiful motors (especially that Nissan). There was just something about this one that really grabbed me - they really went deep on it. Thanks for watching - and for writing in!
Awesome review! And a very nice car, OMG! I love Le Mans cars, but this FIA GT one wants to be in my collection. :D I really wana see the Lola Aston Martin from Le Mans, the AutoArt version, it also looks gorgeous!
Thanks! It's a sweet car. It definitely has an attraction that crosses boundaries... so I can get how this one would pull you in, LOL. I'll keep an eye out for that Lola Aston. I had the sealed body DB around here for a while, and he One-77 is on its way. Thanks a lot for watching.
I wrote a review on this model on DiecastSociety and I was personally extremely disappointed with it. Decals on a $300 model? Crappy interior made of plastic and plasticky and molded seat belts? Even my $85 Hot Wheels Elite 458 GT2 has fabric seat belts. What about the way the hood decal was physically torn to accommodate the hood strakes? My model also had a big chunk of glue left under the front hood section. Considering the price, all these issues are unforgivable. As much as we all admire Autoart, as collectors we have to remain objective and take all the negatives into consideration before delivering a verdict.
Wes - Sounds like you had a bad one, mate, and at $300.00, I'd hotfoot that model back from whence it came, pronto. If this one had torn decals, and a glob of glue, you'd have seen it, in color, in closeup. Decals are the norm on most race models when you have to consider the huge expense of licensing... simply put, making up a multi-color tamp-on pad to print all of those graphics (after paying the licensing for each sponsor, to boot) for what would essentially be a one-shot appearance for this one-time livery would jack the price up (and cut into the profit, which is what any model-making company is really in the game for). Decals are also take less time create - which can be a life saver when planning a model's launch. I've heard stories about model makers having to wait on sign-off from big corporations (or, as they were forced to do, having to eliminate any tobacco logos from their models). That can really put a plug in the pipeline. All of these things have to be considered when making a model. Including what that model will actually be made from. Curious: what material would you have liked to see forming the interior? The actual car is mostly carbon, and the textures here seem to be pretty accurate, if a little glossy here and there. And, overall, I don't see the lack of fabric belts as a reason to throw the baby away with the bath water. Mattel makes multiples of the production run that AUTOart does, a far lesser parts count, and they also don't have the added financial weight of all of the race-day licenses to contend with in their street Ferraris. I'm a huge fan of that company - they've done some remarkable things over the past decade, in terms of making affordable, collector-grade die-cast - but this car is made from 471 pieces; the HWE offerings, though very nicely done, seldom come close to that by half. I'll stand by my guns on this one; the castings below all of those decals and paint are excellent, the build on my sample (a regular production example, sealed, from the factory) was likewise, and all of that is on proper display, right there in the video. I completely respect your opinion (and I do enjoy Diecast Society - a very well-done site). I humbly ask that you respect mine. Thanks for watching!
Joe Kelly, Jr. I suppose you're right, and it does look like the hood decal on your model is much more cleanly applied. I'm just not used to seeing decals on an Autoart model. I have many of them and none of them do. Just threw me off a little, that's all. Personally I don't mind waiting to ensure that everything is perfect, so if they took an extra bit of time to sign them off and produce tampon prints (this model was initially more expensive but then the price was dropped, I'm guessing because they switched to decals at the last minute), it would have been fine by me. What's even more puzzling is why they decided to use tampon prints on the side, but not the top of the car. I would've much rather preferred the other way around.
WesShakirov I hear you. Maybe they had the "Vitaphone" license all locked up, but the secondary sponsors were last -minute things. Please let me know how you do with the replacement model - and thank you for the gracious reply!
