    I literally just requested more parrying videos in your most recent one! 10 minutes later, you dropped this! Your videos on how to close distance while shutting down the opponent's offense AT THE SAME TIME have been GAME CHANGERS for me! Thanks!
    PLEASE consider doing some STYLE BREAKDOWN videos on MARVIN HAGLER! Your Tyson videos are impeccable.

    You see all of this drill in Floyd, Toney and Hopkins.
    I saw an old video on Floyd Mayweather before he became Money and he demonstrated exactly what you have shown today, basically how he can block, parry the jab and left hook and when the same when used in combination just off of his back hand and then come back with the back hand as a counter.
    This is fundamental boxing at its very best.
    I can't wait to watch the rest of this series. #golddust

      Toney did the counter after the jab, using the rear uppercut... difficult technique but he mastered it.

    Very interesting and effective the instructions in the end of the video worth to gold while you explain how to defend the jab and left hook I was wondering what about the right hand and in the end of the video you give me the key it's "shoulder roll" very thankful coach Tom

    My first coach used to call this simultaneous parry and jab "lewy spotkaniowy" - in lose translation it is sth like a "meeting jab" - I suppose that's a good descriptive name for it. As usually sir, you are publishing gems of knowledge. Many thanks. I wish there was internet and your films when I started boxing :D

    Coach. Your channel is probably the only channel you know when you get the notification that your vid is going to be fire!
    No frills. No spills. Just straight to the point. (That is a good thing).
    Exactly, how they tell us script writers. You come in and show what you want us to see...
    No need to set the scene with blah, blah blah for days.
    Just, straight to the action.
    Btw. Loving the backdrop and great to have your student demonstrate as this is one of my favorite topics and drills.
    Great stuff.

    Thank you so much for this video and new series! Awesome work and great insight! This is the first time in all of my years that I've had someone verbalize the importance of not just having your hand in a catch position but to also deflect it to avoid the likes of a 1-3.
    George Benton was said to have 48 ways to defend and counter the jab. I think this is one of the most crucial things you can do in a bout as the jab is the most important punch in boxing. Having multiple ways to defend and counter it will usually destroy an opponent's timing and rhythm as well as frustrate them and cause them to make mistakes.

    0:15 hip twist when roll hook
    I can throw own hook
    1:05 parry jab/ counter throw own cross /or jab /defend snd counter
    1:25 basic parry/not catch
    No just parry /time it
    1:55 I just turn wrist
    2:30 catch worng /not square shoulder/he turn it to hook
    2:40 incoprate /add head movement
    Why I move head then ?
    I Parry becz it gonna make him take longer time to throw another shot
    (parry better than slip sometimes )
    3:10 I have more time to throw rt hand over top too
    3:20 I don't slap it /he can counter with hook.
    3:45 this is why I move head
    3:50 just turn wrist /and turn hips this set my hips up too
    to throw strong rt hand
    4:30 I never move elbow away from body
    4:38 so if he come with hook I still can block it/becz I move my head with it /head further distance
    Or I can even get under it
    5:20 Iam in position to throw strong rt hand
    5:25 now parry jab throw own jab
    5:44 slip jab /for shorter guy
    6:15 step more at inside /bring front and back foot
    6:35 jab against shorter opponent
    7:10 thats one way of many on how to parry and counter jab
    7:20 again :parry counter jab /roll hook keep lft shoulder higher so I can roll rt hand too (so roll hook is more down )to turn to front and square
    Then I can throw different shots/ rt hand left hook /rt uppercut left hook to body

    @nb0616 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also important to note, when you incorporate the catch parry with your head movement defending against the jab; you're introducing another variable into your defense. As a result, you will be much more difficult to time and you will have a variety of different counters open for you to score with.

    Am I the only one wondering why its a parry when you turn your palm towards the jab? It looks like a catch. Do you catch it and then move your right hand left the instant his jab sticks to your palm? Thanks for the videos. This is the best boxing channel on youtube and I'm surprised the videos are free.

    When you’re deflecting that jab 🥊 it looks like you are over your right leg. Is that 60% weight on your back leg to 40% on the front leg? Seems as if you have more weight on the back leg than the weight being evenly distributed. Thanks! I’ll have to try this.

    • @nb0616
      @nb0616 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the style of your stance and your abilities (both natural and trained to be something you do by instinct). I have about 60-70% of my weight on my back foot... sometimes more. I have very good balance and my weight distribution changes almost constantly depending on what I'm doing.
      In this video, when I block hooks like this, a slight majority of my weight is on my rear foot and brought forward and back during the process of throwing the lead hook.

    At the beginning of the video, your student cannot maintain equilibrium with such protection. Are you sure that this is the right defense in its execution?

    • @nb0616
      @nb0616 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is right. The student is just learning the technique. Tom was good enough to show us through that learning process. If you rewatch, you will see that coach Yankello is walking Danny through this technique and continuously providing pointers and corrections.
