9.800RPM Citroen AX Kit-Car Evo 3 || 250Hp/780Kg Hot Hatch Monster

- Manfred Schulte has built, raced and developed through the years a very special Citroen AX powered by a Citroen C2 S1600 engine, capable here of around 250Hp/9.800Rpm.
Thanks to its low weight of around 780Kg and use of a sequential gearbox and among a whole host of aerodynamic changes, this "pocket rocket" has been consistently one of the fastest cars in the 1600cc Class of the highly competitive Berg-Cup series.

Something harmonious about a 1.6L 4cyl screaming to 8k and above that makes me smile
or 10k in the case of this engine

amazing driving skills and for a 780kg car it pretty stable even when braking and hard cornering

only about 80hp.. but super short 5speed manual.. that was so much fun 👌🏼

I want to drive that car! Looks like a damn quick Gokart :) 250 HP and less than 800 kilos... thats they key to have much much fun.
some years ago i had saxo vts supercharged with 185 hp and standard weight of 1000 kilos. If you believe or not, i dont care, he was faster 120-220 than bmw m3 e36 3.2 or bmw m3 e46. also my friends S2000 had no chance etc.
because supercharched and short gears... it was possible drive with 5.th gear hill up, put gas to the bottom and he just acceleration quickly. funny was a friends corrado g60 with chiptuning and shorter ration of g lader.... he hated saxo because his corrado... was... soooo... slow in comparsion. 0 confort, 0 space, stupid clutch, break, gaspedal position... but had so much fun with that saxo. then sold it to a friend because my driver licence was in dangerous every day with that saxo😂

hillclimbracingfan was very funny time with the saxo :) are you from germany or switzerland? because my saxo was tuned from switzerland company ( BEMANI ) maybe you know it. with theyr tuning it has 160/165 horsepower but i'm changed cam shaft with a friend and changed ecu after, so 185/190 horsepower.

Back in the day only real men drove this. It was not an easy car to drive as it was to light and dangerous... But it was fun to drive!!! Love the 90's.

@@HillClimbMonsters i am talking about stock cars mate, and i did notice this was quite recent, have you ever drove an ax gti? Featherlike car, does not brake at all, like the vw g40, fiat uno turbo i.e.,corrado g60, 90's cars. Too much torque for the weight itself. I am quite young only 31 but i've driven some sick cars(tuned) and the ax was one of those that made me release the foot 😂.

@@Dreinocz even though it made a little bit less power the ax gt was actually slightly quicker than the gti as it had less weight and the early single point injection systems that the gti had were dogshit as well
9800rpm with 250hp in that car would be so amazing. drives and sounds so smooth as well. its like the perfect little race car.

Ax supertouring had a 380hp turbo 1.4 8v tu then later a 500hp turbo 1.6 16v xu.
@@edh7492 We only got 340 Hp from 1.4 , 8v engine , .. so, there was still missing 40 Hp , because of the bad (tooo long) exhaust manifold that i assembled and welded together . We will now install 1.6, 8v engine , to see the difference from before :-)

Very smart looking build. But you have to question the 250 hp claimed. It just does not get out of the corner like it should with a real 250hp engine. Unless thats the No. they achieved on the dyno at the top of the rpm gange, but the torque curve was still climbing sharply untill that point?
250hp isnt unachievable from a 1.6 DOHC, especially as it revs to 9800rpm.
but yes on these types of engines you really do have to use all of the revs to get the most out of them
Oscar Thorpe yes for sure we used to get 218-220 bhp with 36mm tb's @ around 8200rpm depending on which cams were used either tarmac 312deg or 316 deg. or gravel spec 296 or 304 deg

Ricardo Gomes Yes it was group A "Kit car" development we were working on. On a different note; we did just to see where things would start to fail.
Using the kit engine parts except for cams with more lift ( more area under the curve) The head was not group A as it had bigger valves. 46mm throttle bodies with an 8 injector set up. We used to get a regular 250+ bhp on the dyno. Which is more than the BDD cosworth formula atlantic makes on a Lucas flat slide inj. system

@@ghostdu8315 ceux que je vouller dire c'est en accélération elle fait 250 ch ok bon pour 780 klg mai plus une voiture et léger plus elle gagne en accélération donc le ressentie serait comme si elle fessait 300 ch de plus si je ne me trompe pas malgré quelle soi ff ou av av

Pour le même rapport poids puissance tu as une wrc de 400 ch. , une berline Mercedes de presque 800ch.. ou une ariel Ariel Atom de 190 ch...
C'est là qu'on comprend que les performances, les sensations, l'efficacité ne sont (heureusement) pas dépendantes de ce seul facteur.. . 😉
