    The first engine should have used the master stream within 30 seconds to knock down the fire until a supply line could be established and use hose lines after that.

  • @JosephMusgrove

    Pretty bad when a civilian like me can easily spot incompetence and poor training with this fire department.
    There seems to be no direction and poor execution. Appeared the initial crews where not sure what to do.

      Keep being a civilian. You can't tell very much tactically from this video. You ain't seeing the whole picture.

      @@keithkinna2164 Keith, I cannot judge the tactical situation or specific procedures for fighting fires. However, even without my 20+ years in management and leading teams it’s obvious there is confusion, poor execution, and poor leadership here. You don’t have to be a firefighter to recognize this.
      That’s not a personal attack against these firefighters. I also understand levels of training or lack of training is at the mercy of budgets.
      Also, the “your not a firefighter, police officer, military, etc.” so don’t understand line, seems to be used too many times in these professions as an excuse not to be open to recognizing issues or improving.

    Syosset is a village and therefore cannot have a professional paid fire department. That is there is no legal entity to write the checks. This is a Vol FD and yes it is supported by a mil levy, and one comment said that it was well equipped. Voters will be happy to approve a few mils for equipment, but there is no way they can pay all of these guys. If this operates like our town, then the fire chief is whoever will accept the job. Training is hit and miss. They are not going to dismiss as member because he does not or cannot make it to training sessions (if any). When this is the case, every member must know almost every job. The engine should have rolled in and the fire attacked with the 'garden-hose' while the driver/engineer connects the engine to the water supply and starts the pumps. There should have been at least three hoses on the fire before the first truck arrives.
    The engine should be the first beast out of the barn, but what if the truck company is ready first. Do they go with what they have, or do they swing over to the engine. Where I live members are not assigned to vehicles but to the department: the engine always rolls first, and I am not sure if we even have a ladder truck.

      @robertkerner4833 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lack of situational awareness perhaps. You can see the first person to arrive wearing SCBA ( suggesting he arrived on an apparatus) announce that he wanted a tower ladder. Perhaps that foreclosed the possibility of mounting an alternative attack. That dept BTW is very well resourced. Maybe not their best performance.

  • @thenussbaum44

    Here what I see, they put the most effort into getting the ladder truck into service. They could have had one of the guys that was standing around to get one more handline in service, that would of helped a lot but I was not there. I don't know the size of this department but I see smaller department that don't get to use their ladders rush to use them when other thing could have been done instead.

    Vol dept, get it. No excuse for drill level way behind the standard.4:55, still no water. In Germany most towns have only volunteer FF. Nevertheless, drill is all you need to execute what is ordered by the chief. Deck gun engagment would reduce the spread and help to knock it down after hand lines in operation. Very poor performance, chief.

      Germany has a population of about 80 million. America has about 340 million. Germany also has almost as many fire fighters as the US. Not only that, but the structures you have in Germany aren’t like the ones in America. They take different tactical approaches.

    I'm just amazed. There's little sense of urgency on the fireground. Three guys on a solid bore handline getting their asses kicked (technique). No interior operations that I could see. No roof operations. An abundance of fire in the rear, yet I saw no water being projected up and over the structure from the rear and onto the crews in the front. There are too many people on the outside (outside specialists) wandering or gathering without assignment. I'm sorry, guys, but your Incident Command is non-existent and is failing you and the citizens. If nothing else, each one of your personnel showing up in whatever order they show, should already have an idea of what it is that they are going to do, by the type of rig they're on, and by the order in which they arrive (if rescue isn't imminent).

  • @ericweiler6571

    It’s so funny to see comments about the fire fighters not getting the water on the fire fast enough. I just saw three videos of fires in other countries and it took about 18 minutes for their firefighters to show up. This wasn’t the best department but they did what they had to do. I can show you a video in Camas, WA where the firefighters had a one and a half inch line on the fire within 30 seconds upon arrival. Guess what? It was a total loss too
