The Engine doesn't really come into its own until its done 2000 Miles plus then it is super smooth and much faster than it sounds. The worst MPG I have had is 78 MPG usually 84 MPG. I ran it in a bit old school stuck to 40 MPH for the first 300 miles the gradually built up to 60 MPH up to the second service. now its done over 2000 Miles it will cruise at 65 to 70 all Day and the top speed is 84 [Wich is exactly the same as a CRF 250] without the screaming engine and VIBRATION both are 24 BHP. The Scram is not a SUPERBIKE but is a Super Bike to Ride.
I was looking this up and seeing reported mpg of 35? I watched one video where he said he gets 185miles a tank. What sort of range can I expect when I get mine?
@@markbatty2860 As I wrote in My previous comment the lowest MPG I have recorded was 78mpg this was a one off I think I didn't zero the Trip Meter when I filled up every other time its been 84mpg I fill up when the Fuel light comes on this is around 180 Miles.
Picking up my new Scram 411 next week from Robinson's, in the same blue colourway. They are now selling for around £3950 on the road, (Premium model), so I can't see as you can go wrong at that price. I sold my maroon 500 Chrome bullet around ten years ago, which I was very pleased with, and p/x that for a Triumph Bonneville. I thought my biking days were finally over, but after thirty two different bikes, I'm looking forward to the Scram. Keep up the good work BW.
I recently purchased a Scram 411, and i agree with your review of it , I love the bike and it is fun to ride even though i'm still in the break in period. I did put on a PowerAGE slip on exhaust and it sounds great. The quality ,fit , and finish is excellent , along with a very reasonable price . They are made in India . I watch all of your videos , keep them coming , Thanks ,Ernie
At my time of life lighter, simpler and less powerful makes a lot of sense. I've had big fast powerful bikes, and they were great at the time but it's time for a change. I also like the look and concept of these bikes too, in fact I wouldn't be worried by having to ride one of them on fresh snow. The fact is lighter bikes can be a lot more fun and are a lot less scary when they get away from you.
I bought a scram 411 and I didn’t bother with a test ride as I researched the bike loads and it’s everything I thought it would be and more. The sales chap said they were going out of the door more than any other model in the show room and I can see why after having it for a month . First service done and a few extras added to make it a perfect machine. Phase 2 of the running in process is the next thing.
I did the same Nicola.... Did the research and read the reviews and then "bought blind" without any regrets.... A proper year round all purpose cool looking bike. Don't forget to clean up those relays though! ☺️👍
@@thebingleywheeler I’ve heard there’s some issues with the relays. Have you had an issue with them? Is it just dirty contacts or do they fail from Tim to time? My bike now has much needed heated grips on it for cold weather days the the uk has had so many of. 😂
Hi Nicola yes the relays suffer from an excess of white grease for shipping purposes. This applies to the whole Royal Enfield range and can cause running/starting issues on some bikes. Also the relays aren’t the best quality so an upgrade at the same time as cleaning out the excess grease is also a good idea. If you have a look at this video where I clean and replace the relays on all 3 of my Enfields you can see what needs to be done th-cam.com/video/VM3bUauHOdk/w-d-xo.html
Loving my Scram, even though I've yet to ride it on a dry road! My dealer said not to get paranoid about the handbook guidance on running in - advice was "just be gentle with it", which means don't accelerate harshly and avoid riding flat out. I'll keep it below 60 mph until it's first (300mi) service and avoid revving it hard. It feels fine - you can feel an engine under stress, so don't go there!
Good points and pretty much the way I went initially. Mine is now at 1300 miles and is going like a train with a glorious sound and so much character in all aspects. Beware sage like advice from dealers….they just want your cash 😂 (of course) you’ve got a fantastic bike there 👍🏻
Eddie.............was worth waiting for Sir, thank you for your review, in the next few weeks I will buy a bike, the Scram 411 is one of the three contenders, the more I see it the more I like it !
I also purchased a scram to extend my riding season, I also own a speed twin 1200 which is my sunny day bike, however the Scram isn't just consigned to winter duties as its great fun green laning which I have only recently discovered.
I had a KLR 650 which I brought with around 14k mile .After about 15K miles the engine loosened up and the performanced improved. I currently have a Kawasaki versa 650 which has a detuned nija 650 engine. Other than passing, I don’t really use the available power from the engine. I live in west Tennessee and we have a deer over population here and you have to keep that in mind when riding through the back roads of Tennessee. I am seriously thinking about the scram 411 since I notice that I seldom ride over 60 MPH. I am approachging mid 60s and I am looking for a smaller simpler bike to ride. The Scram 411 seems to fit what I am lookingh for.
Hi there BW, I just bought a Himi about 2 months and 2200 kms ago and am LOVING it. 100 mpg, comfortable riding position, enough power (especially as the engine has opened out now) and cheap to buy. I'm having the best time of my life on my Himi ... PS Re Running-in - When I bought my Himi I saw what is written in the handbook about speeds in gears, I tried it out and it didn't work for me. I kept it initially to max (and no labouring) 3000 rpm for 500 kms then 4000 to first service at 800 kms then gently easing it up to 2200 rpm and she gets a good work out.
Hi yes the running in is a pain I simply couldn’t stick to it where I live because of all the hills. Sadly the Scram doesn’t have a rev counter so it’s a bit of a guessing game 🤔😊
Age and injury has made riding heavy bikes prohibitive for me. I bought a little Suzuki 250 twin and I am having a bang up time riding it. My rides are shorter than before as well due to rapid exhaustion from my injuries. I am going to try one these because it would be fun to get off the pavement onto trails. Thank you for your review!
Of course you CAN ride a bike in ice and snow. I did in the 1950s on rutted ice. You let the bike go where it wants and just sort of guide it in the direction you want. it tends to go in a straight line anyway although it will jump around a bit. Pretty well keep your hands off the bars so the steering can jump around a bit.Of course you only go about 15 - 20 mph
Hi I tried a Himalayan from a dealer and didn’t like it at all, so I was reluctant to try the 411. I am glad I did as I believe the smaller front wheel transformed it. I prefer the 350 engine in the Classic for smoothness but they are both lovely bikes. I went to Dorothys’s Speedshop to try all the RE’s.
Why didn't you like the Himalayan? I was thinking of getting one but have not yet ridden one. They have a very high seat height. I was wondering how that effected the ride.
@@jerrybriardy the one I tried felt very agricultural (gear change) and rattled, and somehow the higher front end felt odd. The 411 had a better engine pick up and was more flickable and the seat is more comfortable.
Thank you SO much for the review Sir ! I’ve been looking @ a Himalayan (the new one) but never looked @ the Scam. I might have to pop along to Royal Enfield again on your recommendation. Thanks buddy 👍
Hi I’m seriously thinking of one of these but I have a job of getting over are they cheap for a reason but then triumph have got the 400 scrambler for few quid more so with quality in mind don’t know what to think really but I do like the scrambler very much and ideal for what I want as a winter hack decisions decisions 🤷♂️what to do
Just watch this Dave. I do like the plaintive looks of these. Would consider one. But, yes a But. Wee Mark’s wee leggies would be a dangling in fresh air above the ground.😢 You got some gorgeous roads down your way.😊
I was torn between the Classic 350 and Scram with the intention of riding through winter. Both seem to tick all the boxes you mention, except the Classic's more vulnerable finish. That said, I went with the 350 and, surprisingly, I've never had a bike that keeps itself so clean and is so easy to wash. I'll give it a dose of ACF50 and if it does develop a patina then so be it. Do you find the Scram's mudguards allow more dirt and spray to get on the bike and you than on the Classic? Enjoyed the "homecoming" BTW.
Good evening. Thanks for the really interesting video. I've had a Royal Enfield Classic 350 for a few months now, which (apart from the limited horsepower) I'm quite happy with. I would like to ask you: does it make sense to replace it with the Scram 411?
Hi Paolo well if you want some off road capability then definitely yes that would make sense otherwise not really as you won’t notice much difference in performance and you would lose that Classic look
I rode an XT500 to Portugal and back three times and once return to Greece in the '80s. All from just north of you, Skipton. I look back on that bike fondly. I like the look of the 411. It's a shame it doesn't have cross-spoke wheels, enabling tubeless tyres. I already have an air-cooled scrambler - Yamaha SCR950. A 411 would complement it nicely. The braking sounds like my SCR. Front and back together. Good review and nice to see the old area.

What I as a American watching this was a bike originally from your land. I’ve been watching you and all others review the heck out of it. Yes some here in America. My thing is I reached out to the company and as just a old man never felt they reached back. Emailed the where is a dealer! Now mind you I’m in back water Michigan but one in a post Covid world would be trying to do anything for incoming Business. 400 cc is better than a 300 cc Honda but where is the sales support. Not with Royal Enfield where I am. Enjoy my friend and I guess I’ll just look for local supplies here as the world is only a 1 world if a company can compete.
It seems like a perfectly OK motorcycle, I live in Australia so the coldest it gets here is about 5C on winter mornings, we don't ride below 20C! I think this bike suits the dual sport riders particularly the shorter riders with that low seat height
@The Bingley Wheeler Australian climate is hot and dry in summer and cold and wet in winter, the south West is forest and coastal themed and the north is semi tropical strange desert like with multiple deadly animals thrown in, in between is just desert it's a strange place, not much history, not much culture!
It’s the standard royal Enfield scram rear rack and just a Givi crash bar bag attached temporarily. I’ve now fitted the full Givi luggage system panniers and top box which use a different fitting
Love mine to bits. I spent a lifetime riding high-powered sports bikes and tourers but I'm older and not in the best of health and it suits me fine. Light, maneuverable and good on the mucky stuff. Throw the exhaust away and fit a straight through system and see what you get.
Thanks for sharing your experience so far and thoughts on the scram, I just bought one I love it do you know what the torque setting is for the top engine bolt as I’m fitting some engine bars and other bits and bobs
It is not a Speed Demon! I have the first California Scram 411 sold. I immediately did my pipe and DNA Air Filter upgrade. My pipe is the Delkevik 8” Carbon Fiber model. Swapped the battery for a AntiGravity Lithium I have removed the side badges and the steel pipe they are on. Still have the turn signals to switch to EDS Tuff Lites and get rid of the rear lower plastic fender piece. As of now I took my bike across a scale and I’m at 379 pounds with a half a tank of fuel. I have been at 80mph on the freeway and cruise very comfortably at 65-70mph This bike is no speed demon in any way. It is a cruiser and nimble in traffic and lane splitting as we can do here. A total blast off road. Love the thumper sound of my pipe. My wife and I have several bikes each. 3 Harley’s, a Suzuki and a Honda XL600 Enduro The Scram was purchased to go on the front rack of my truck when towing our RV. Perfect for running to town or sight seeing. For the price it’s worth it. If I was really wanting a all around bike I would definitely buy something bigger with more power. I have seen cylinder bore kits and cams coming out which would be a huge improvement Other than that it’s a great little bike and is great starting when freezing
An all round bike is probably a better description for our roads in the uk. An anti gravity battery? Got to get one of those! I will also fit the DNA filter as I have it on the interceptor and it’s a good upgrade to have. I’ll be fitting the Delkevic today and an essential upgrade here….heated grips 👍🏻
I have just sold my himilayan 2022 . Great little bike for the money . I joined a himilayan off road group ,and did many green lanes in Derbyshire ,excellent days out. But for an everyday do it all bike " my only bike " it became tiresome after a few months, basically down to the engine power. It copes fine in town obviously but get it out on the open road it shows its lack of pace . Overtaking needs to be planned ! Dual carriage ways etc 60 mph is your lot really as any faster the engine is revving its tits off. If it had the 650 twin engine it would be bang on the money. Iam considering a 650 interceptor .
I would love a Himalayan but i ride a 650 gs BMW single, 50 hp, super reliable, will be watching the new 450 with interest. I saw a Givi channel the other day showing all the luggage they do for the Scram, looks good, Himmy has a better dashboard though.

I'm in the USA. These British motorcycle videos disturb me as you guys drive on the wrong side fo the street. That said, I'm thinking of getting a RE. Thinking of selling one or both and getting a new RE. I just wish they made a model with a shaft drive. Chain drives suck. I hate everything about them.

Always good to hear from an American viewer 😊
If you have to choose one. For daily ride and week which one you choose. This scram or interceptor?
The Interceptor for sure 😊👍🏻
It seems like a perfectly OK motorcycle, I live in Australia so the coldest it gets here is about 5C on winter mornings, we don't ride below 20C!
I think this bike suits the dual sport riders particularly the shorter riders with that low seat height
I am so jealous of your climate it’s rubbish here in the UK
@The Bingley Wheeler Australian climate is hot and dry in summer and cold and wet in winter, the south West is forest and coastal themed and the north is semi tropical strange desert like with multiple deadly animals thrown in, in between is just desert it's a strange place, not much history, not much culture!
@@tillsy23 I’ll still take it 😂
Thanks for this I’m considering one. Which rear rack & bag is that you have please?
It’s the standard royal Enfield scram rear rack and just a Givi crash bar bag attached temporarily. I’ve now fitted the full Givi luggage system panniers and top box which use a different fitting
Love mine to bits. I spent a lifetime riding high-powered sports bikes and tourers but I'm older and not in the best of health and it suits me fine. Light, maneuverable and good on the mucky stuff. Throw the exhaust away and fit a straight through system and see what you get.
Absolutely pal…..that exhaust is getting binned tomorrow and Delkevic fitted👍🏻
I got Delkevic downpipe and titanium end can. Release the horses.
Thanks for sharing your experience so far and thoughts on the scram, I just bought one I love it do you know what the torque setting is for the top engine bolt as I’m fitting some engine bars and other bits and bobs
Hi all the engine bolts appear to be 50nm….have a look here

@@thebingleywheeler Thanks for the information fitting bars this afternoon 👍
It is not a Speed Demon!
I have the first California Scram 411 sold. I immediately did my pipe and DNA Air Filter upgrade.
My pipe is the Delkevik 8” Carbon Fiber model. Swapped the battery for a AntiGravity Lithium
I have removed the side badges and the steel pipe they are on. Still have the turn signals to switch to EDS Tuff Lites and get rid of the rear lower plastic fender piece. As of now I took my bike across a scale and I’m at 379 pounds with a half a tank of fuel.
I have been at 80mph on the freeway and cruise very comfortably at 65-70mph
This bike is no speed demon in any way. It is a cruiser and nimble in traffic and lane splitting as we can do here. A total blast off road. Love the thumper sound of my pipe.
My wife and I have several bikes each. 3 Harley’s, a Suzuki and a Honda XL600 Enduro
The Scram was purchased to go on the front rack of my truck when towing our RV. Perfect for running to town or sight seeing.
For the price it’s worth it. If I was really wanting a all around bike I would definitely buy something bigger with more power. I have seen cylinder bore kits and cams coming out which would be a huge improvement
Other than that it’s a great little bike and is great starting when freezing
An all round bike is probably a better description for our roads in the uk. An anti gravity battery? Got to get one of those! I will also fit the DNA filter as I have it on the interceptor and it’s a good upgrade to have. I’ll be fitting the Delkevic today and an essential upgrade here….heated grips 👍🏻
Thanks for this informative video ,
Most welcome Gary
Don't wait until 3000 miles to have the service done. The valves will need doing before then. It's an easy job.
Cheers for that 👍🏻
Saved the best for the last 😅😂. Cheers mate!
Most welcome 🙏
Nice😊
Interceptor is a great bike with plenty of power
Six enfields are on its way.
Too late now, but if you were using dual carriageways, why didn't you just pop the 16T sprocket on?
I would love a Himalayan but i ride a 650 gs BMW single, 50 hp, super reliable, will be watching the new 450 with interest. I saw a Givi channel the other day showing all the luggage they do for the Scram, looks good, Himmy has a better dashboard though.
Yes the 450 should address a lot of issues
i have a better question. would it possible to insert the 411 engine into the 350 classic? daft question i'm sure, but not a stupid one.
Good question I’m guessing it’s possible but unlikely to happen
Where are you riding? the landscape is beautiful... Green England...
Yorkshire Dales 👍🏻
What did you put on the grips? I didn't catch that. I have a skyline blue Scram and I love it
Hi they are grip puppies, very comfortable yet durable. Did you get your Scram in the UK? Here is the link for the puppies Grip Puppy Comfort grips for BMW Models amzn.eu/d/fWsZXqd
@@thebingleywheeler thank you so much. I'll pick them up. No I am in the US. Based on the videos I've seen the skyline color is available in the US, Australia, India. It's a shame because I think it's an absolutely gorgeous color. The silver spirit is definitely a close second
@@pinkies_up_garage I’d have gone for the Skyline Blue had it been available here….it’s a great colorway. I so envy your country at this time….we’re in a complete mess here….best wishes from England 👍🏻

Thanks for this video...I'm seriously thinking of trading my RT in for a Scam & an Interceptor too. Same reasons as you say cost of purchase, weight & running costs. As much as I like the Bm the costs for parts & servicing are crazy. Beautiful Dog Btw...
Cheers Paul yes I couldn’t get on with either my 1250 RT or my K1600 GTL….for me my ST1300 pan European beats both the beemers and cost a lot less 👍🏻
I've got a Himmy and a V85tt, both great bikes and I love getting out on either come the mucky weather but the Himmy is my choice for those short evening blasts in mud and cr#p
I hope you keep her clean though 😂
@@thebingleywheeler sorry no, it's for riding not cleaning 😂
@@trevorsmith8487that's a rare comment Trevor! Good on you!
No drop test. No dirt ride. No scramble.
Nope
Marvellous review😊
Thank you sir
Love my Himmy! so I don't need a Scram , CEAT tyres are fine, as they are in fact Pirelli's Indian subsidiary, much like Bybre and Brembo.Everyone loves the Scram, all those that have ridden it, and those just looking,Enfield did it again! Cheers, DINO.
Cheers Dino that's very interesting about Pirelli
Beautiful Indian baby Himalayan 🔥
Bike is great, but Eddie is the star!
Yes he does a better jobs b than me! 😊👍🏻
He’s better than me!
I will be happy to buy this motorbike from you
Make me an offer if you’re in the uk 😀
I'm in the USA. These British motorcycle videos disturb me as you guys drive on the wrong side fo the street.
That said, I'm thinking of getting a RE. Here in Nebraska, we get horrible weather, from scorching 100+ F heat to -20 F and blizzards to tornados. I currently have a Yamaha XV1100 Virago and a Suzuki VS800 Intruder. Thinking of selling one or both and getting a new RE. I just wish they made a model with a shaft drive. Chain drives suck. I hate everything about them.
Believe me life here is far worse regardless of the side of the road….you have vast open spaces to explore…. Here wealthy land owners just tell you to get off their land….especially if you’re on a motorcycle
