In the doberman dog story, I like how the OP explained to the kid about why the dog was scared. The scary movie analogy is a good one.

I have a very lovely pit bull, she's funny, gentle (gentle enough to trust her with several generations of kittens - no injuries, except for a few scratches on her snout and she never retaliates), and a couch potato. The only things she's ever harmed directly are her toys. She is, however, terrified of cars. She was hit while running away from a neighbor's dog, no broken bones or internal injuries, thank goodness, just lots of road rash and bruises. She goes blind and deaf to reason when cars go by while we're out walking - She does a high pitched, short yip, continuously until the car is far enough away for her to feel safe. She jumps, twists, and pulls toward the cars. People will stop and ask if im okay from dealing with all that. I often tell them how she was hif by a car before and that shes absolutely terrified of cars now. Most empathetic/animal loving people get it right awayand give treats when they see her. We've tried ried so many methods of behavior modification without results. I now just take her to the city park and walk her on the trails there. One of my neighbors is our biggest enemy. He hates pits and believes every bad thing ever said against them. She's only gotten loose twice in 19 months and both times made a beeline right towards him and his dog - a tiny thing no bigger than my dogs head. The first time, the guy wound up with a nose bleed/some scratches to his face - she didn't harm him, he got tangled in the leashes and fell. The second time she just ran a circle around him and then let me put the collar and leash back on her. But he swears she's some vicious beast out to get him. Meanwhile his little dog is always barking, pulling, lunging at other people and animals, and attempting to bite.

The one about the grocery store and the beating the kid, I would be shocked to find out that the husband was not also being abused. It is not commonly talk about, but spousal abuse goes both ways. And generally in those situations, what happens is the woman starts verbally abusing him and he doesn't argue back. Then he turns to a slap or two because she knows his mama taught him to never hit a woman. And when he tries to walk away it becomes more vocally violent and then more physically violent. Throwing things, screaming, punching, etc. Then he is legitimately a "beaten man". And she has torn him down so often and with such hateful language that he truly believes he doesn't deserve any better or can't do any better. And just like with wife abuse, it's a vicious and endless cycle. Because he doesn't know that he could be a single parent and get along a lot better without her. Or she may be the breadwinner in the family and he doesn't have enough skills to get by as a single parent so he stays.
Legitimately, it is just like wife abuse.

lot of times tho if the father leaves he will not get the children. then those children are left with the abusive mother and dad cant even take the hits for them any more. ive heard horror stories about men having tons of evidence against the mother, she still gets the kids. sometimes it works out but a lot of men just dont want to take the chance of forever losing their kids, if you catch my drift, so they stay.

Hi, I'm not from the U.S.
A common perception about American children is how misbehaved, disrespectful and bratty they are. I've yet to met one, or meet someone else who didn't held this opinion, and we do get to see many Americans and their families thought the year here, given it's touristic location. It is commonly understood that this is the result of not punishing your children effectively.
Now, I've often told my wife that corporeal punishment should be THE LAST resource for us to use when our children misbehave, and this only applies to our youngest really. And after that it becomes a thing of measure, how strong you make it. This part is where I admit to you, many parents have failed and will continue failing. Parents who don't exhaust every avenue to appeal to their children's sense of logic and understanding, before even thinking about laying hands on them and then going completely off handle like the lady in this story. She failed that boy completely and utterly.
I sometimes get the impression that Americans don't trust themselves to act reasonably, that's why you regulate around these things the way you do. It's something cultural, because it's not like other countries don't regulate around these either, and these people don't deny some corporeal punishment IS needed at times but there is a distinct line between abuse and discipline that we can all tell apart, but Americans give off the impression they don't or they can't, so they need to be authoritatively told and controlled. Feels like the government telling you how to parent. God knows some people don't deserve to be parents, but is it really a good idea to allow the authorities to dictate exactly how? Parenting the parents?

@@DeMoraJS Nope. 1) Discipline does not equal punishment. 2) Parents in the US are unfortunately a lot MORE likely than many parts of the world to resort to physical punishment, and whereas many places in Europe* have entirely banned corporal punishment, it's legal for parents everywhere in the US to smack their kids as long as they're not dumb enough to call it "beating" out loud (and in some states, they still do it in schools). So if our kids are worse behaved it's probably not because they don't get hit enough or hit hard enough. 3) The reason other places have "regulated around these things" isn't because they don't trust themselves to act reasonably, it's because they recognize that children are people and assault is still assault when it's done on someone smaller and less powerful than yourself. So far, to my knowledge, the countries that have banned corporal punishment of children have not fallen into anarchy, though I'm sure if you ask the opinions of the angry old people there, they'll agree that the country has gone down the drain since, just like angry old people have always said about the "youth of today."
*Other places too, I'm just too lazy too look up and contextualize all of them.

      @jerosa07 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, no...sorry I disagree!! A good smacking at the proper age will be effective!! I personally think that the younger generation acts soooo entitled because parents tried the punishment without snacking...not even a light slap!! There's a huge difference between actual physical abuse vs discipline....I have a close friend that endured hard abuse.... because of that she didn't want to hit her first child at all!! Nada, zip!! Well, that kid ran the household and at 3 years old, the kid would hit the mother!!! Thankfully when gota little older she changed tactics on discipline and he's now a very nice and adjusted young man!!.... Though I'm Puerto Rican, gen X at the time true respect to others was taught!

    • @meagancall5005
      @meagancall5005 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@jerosa07 I mean, yeah it's "effective" in that it typically stops the undesirable behavior in that moment. But study upon study shows that children who are spanked are more likely to have behavioral problems, and more likely to be aggressive. The population of US prisons has a significantly higher proportion of residents who were spanked compared to the general population.
Look, I'm actually not that person who's going to claim every parent who spanks their kid is abusive. I believe the vast majority of parents who resort to that for discipline do it with the best possible intentions, and for the most part, the harm is going to be outweighed by the strength of their relationship. But I promise you, it's absolutely possible to discipline children *effectively* without hitting them. It's possible to raise respectful and well-behaved kids without hitting them. It's really a shame that proponents of spanking seem to think the only alternative to spanking is to just let your kids run wild.
(Side note: Of course your friend's kid started behaving better as he got older. I would expect most children to be easier to manage as they grow out of the toddler years, whatever method their parents use to discipline them.)

The Karen calling the cops for OP ‘being rude’ reminds me of this one girl I knew in secondary school. Buckle up folks.
So there was this one girl who we’ll call H. Since both me and her have a hearing impediment, we had to go to the “HI department” on occasion for extra support, so that’s how I knew her. For most of my time in secondary school (that’s 12-16 for anyone not from the UK) I was dating a girl who, like me, had long ginger hair (I did finally cut mine short when I was 14 though), so from the back we did look the same even if she was taller than me.
Well, my GF and H hated each other, I’m not sure why, some past beef or something. It never really involved me… until it did.
One time in year 8 at break, I was lining up to buy a chocolate muffin (I would get one every Friday as a treat, since the school’s muffins were the best I have ever tasted) and I suddenly hear H behind me saying “hi (GF’s name)”. Before I even have a chance to fully turn around she starts punching me and kicking me, and I go down. I don’t want to fight back since she’s smaller than me and had hearing aids, so I don’t want to hurt her or for people to think I was the aggressor here. A teacher comes to break it up, and H is shocked to see it was me and not my GF. She gets suspended for a week, and when she got back to school, she made it her mission to get ME in trouble as revenge for me getting her suspended.
This was maybe about a year later, I would’ve been about 13 I think, and I was in P.E class. This was the only lesson I had with her, thank god because if she had been in all of my classes I would have probably had to move school, for my own safety.
Anyway so me and a friend of mine, we’ll call him R, were doing this stupid thing where I would constantly tap him on the shoulder until he turned around and then I’d just say “boobies”. Typical dumb kids stuff, we were both finding it funny. Well H hears this and comes up to me and says “um, you can’t say that, it’s rude.” Bear in mind, this is the girl who calls me a b*tch every single day. I’m fed up with her so I say, “yeah? Well at least I didn’t say tits!” R laughs and H storms off, mouth agape in fake shock. I soon see she’s gone to get the teacher, and I think to myself ‘uh oh, she actually does have something against me this time’ since bad language isn’t allowed in class.
Well, once the teacher is here, she turns to him and says:
    “Sir, Proxy said boobies”
    Not tits.
    Boobies.
    And the teacher just goes
    “Yeah, and?”
Me and R are crying laughing at this point as H just stumbles over her words trying to justify wasting the teacher’s time. I’ll never forget this, it’s a story I still tell to this day even though it happened almost a decade ago now.

So, to lighten things up a bit, the short story is, years ago, my 5th grade daughter had uncharacteristically really mis-behaved in class, was sent to the principal's office and I was called. I walked in and started asking the principal what she'd done. My daughter broke in and said "when you hear, you're going to kill me". I stopped in my tracks and asked her "have I EVER killed you before for mis-behaving"? With a slight smile on her face, she replied "yes". We all started laughing and the principal told me what had happened, she got suspended for 3 days and we went to work trying to figure what had happened (SHE didn't know what happened). She just, in her words " went nuts with anger" for some reason. Hadn't happened before, never happened again, she still went to therapy and we worked on what to do if it happened again. (Beth's mom- not the daughter in the story)

Where I live all you have to do is take a picture of the car ilegaly parked and go to the police station to file a complaint. The offender has to go to court and pay a fine. You could also call the police and that car will be ticketed and towed. The ticket is 250 dollars and the tow and impound fee is the same amount. The second offense can get the offender 90 days community service.

The entitled mom even named “beating” and “spanking” separately showing she knows there’s a distinction!

Karens ALWAYS traumatize their kids more than the people around them ever do. Unless someone legitimately tries to harm their child, then that qualifies them as a mama bear, not a karen.

Not going to lie if I was in the place of the second original poster with that walking condition I definitely would have just called the cops on that lady for trying to kick my feet the way she did cuz I feel like some people like her don't learn until there's a nice pair of handcuffs around the wrist for them to understand that they're in the wrong

I have POTs too. It’s very debilitating. Cause light headedness, dizziness, near passing out, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, pain in your shoulders and neck and joints, blood pooling in your feet, heat intolerance, brain fog, etc. the list goes on

Let me make something clear, the father in the last story is NOT an abuser. He is just as much an abuse victim as the children. It is obvious he has suffered severe emotional and psychological (and likely physical) domestic abuse from this woman. It pisses me off to no end when people claim that a man can't be victimized by a woman because he is physically stronger or tougher.

Story number 5 shaking a child is a felony crime it is child abuse you can give that baby shaken baby syndrome which could kill it it's happened many times before you don't shake a child you can kill them I hope that woman goes to jail for a long long time!

16:56, This I find absolutely unacceptable! Saying something like that is asking to get arrested. Dumb! 17:39, Oh yes there is considering your son, coward. 20:41, Big mistake, Karen!
Serves her right! And let me say this, yes. There is something that they can do about the kid’s situation, and the abusive mother. The result, well you know.

    1) So sad OP has such an awful condition. It's nice a cop was there right away to give that disgusting woman the ticked she deserved.
    2) OMG, some people are so insane and entitled. OP should have called the cops, she should have reported this assault because this is what it was, both verbal and physical.
    3) I think OP should never have kept responding to this and not give any replies after this person started with the crazy entitlement.
    4) That is so awful. Some people are so insane and go out of their way to be ignorant and cause problems. I'm sorry this happened to OP and the dogs, they did not deserve to be traumatized like this,
    5) I don't agree that the husband is not abusive, if he allows his wife to abuse the kid and does nothing to protect the child from her, that is abuse.

Grocery-abuse Mom is very likely beating her husband too; the physical demeanor OP describes is classic beaten spouse syndrome. Here's hoping this incident gets him into therapy as well as away from the wife.

That last story reminds me of my own mother. I still remember her grabbing my shoulders, shaking me, screaming in my face, and swearing at me. It scared the crap out of me and I was much older than the kid in this story. Even if the threats aren’t “real” and she never beat the kid, that sort of treatment is emotional abuse, and it is just as damaging to a child’s psyche.😢

I had a friend a long time ago and she was Very Fit. She saw a lady slap her own child in the face. She was a small child sitting in the cart. My friend turned at the lady, yelled at her then punched her and said how do you like it... Yes, my friend got in trouble but she said it was worth it and it was in my eyes also!

2nd story: I had a good friend in college who had a similar condition. Nicest guy in the world, great guitar player. 1/4 native American and tried to make a living as a musician. That was a double whammy, as he died of alcoholism before he was 40.
