    Wait a minute, wind turbines? If there's a nuclear bomb dropped in that area, aren't those turbines going to kind of fall down and die?

    • @OreadNYC
      @OreadNYC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Most likely...but that's a big part of the problem with thinking like this in the first place, the belief that people not only ought to but actually can have complete control over the world (even if only their own personal piece of it) so that they can escape fear and loss and pain and sorrow. It never works -- no matter how much you try to account for every conceivable variable, life is far too complex to be that predictable and humans are simply not perceptive enough to be capable of forseeing and staving off every potential problem..
      By definition, a bunker is a closed and isolated system -- and one factor which inevitably comes into play and which must be accounted for in any closed and isolated system is the issue of entropy. Once things start going wrong within a closed system, they tend to keep going wrong with the result that disorder tends to increase rather than decrease. One of the problems inherent in the concept of a bunker is the fact that the essential goal of a bunker is stasis...but stasis is actually not a natural condition and the longer you try to maintain it, the more effort you will need to exert to do it.

    • @meadmaker4525
      @meadmaker4525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yep, the first thing to go in a close nuclear blast would be the windmills. If the blast is far enough away (10+ miles), they'll be fine. Having said that, this site has 5 separate power sources, including geothermal, with actual submarine batteries for backup, multiple water sources, etc. They've thought of all of the contingencies. Also, it's built to provide approximately 3-5 years of survival, not indefinite survival. At some point after the presumed nuclear blast, people will have to come back top-side to look for supplies, food, etc.

    • @cplcabs
      @cplcabs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They aren't specifically for the bunker. They have other sources of power there which they showed such as generators. Think of the wind turbines as the power station that everyone gets power from and of which will be knocked out if the area is nuked.

Even the earthquake one, underground structures don't get as affected by earthquakes as much as buildings on the surface which have room to sway and then tear at the base of the structure, the soil and dirt around the underground building prevent such swaying, the worst you will get is static cracks. Compensation for different jobs could come with different privileges including different accommodation, different or increased rations, more access to pool time, theater or other such luxuries.

How much power could you generate if your outside sources were disconnected/destroyed? Do you have a years' worth of fuel stored on-hand? I mean, basically any person who is actually interested in buying a shelter would ask those exact same questions, so a company that is selling shelters would generally make sure to address those concerns. But to answer your question, according to their website, the facility has enough resources to provide food, water, air filtration, electricity, etc. for 5 years with a maximum capacity of 75 people. In addition, they have the capability to grow plants and raise fish.

    • @OreadNYC
      @OreadNYC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. By definition, a bunker is a closed and isolated system -- but one factor which is inevitable in a closed system and which must be taken into account is the principle of entropy.
      Within a closed system such as this, there is really only one way for everything to go smoothly but THOUSANDS of ways for something to go wrong -- so what do you think is going to happen? That's right...Murphy's Law/Sod's Law will eventually prevail no matter how hard you try to avoid it because life is far more complex than most people are willing to acknowledge and it's just not possible to control for everything. Furthermore, the principle of entropy states that once things begin going wrong in a closed system, they will keep going wrong and get worse rather than better over time with the result that the system eventually falls apart unless or until you introduce something new and different into the system. The fundamental flaw inherent in the bunker concept is that it is an attempt to create stasis -- but stasis is not a natural or sustainable condition so the longer you try to maintain it, the harder you need to work in order to do it and the more severe the impact is likely to be when your efforts eventually fail.

      @@kentoncarter1103 Technically, you could argue that the two Biosphere projects already answered this question to some extent but even the Biosphere project wasn't and isn't really comparable to this -- the Biosphere is above ground and the residents still had remote contact with the outside so this is not a totally closed system in the way that this bunker complex would be. Scientists made two attempts to create a self-sustaining habitat in the Biosphere from 1991 to 1993 and in 1994...but while these established important milestones, they were also beset with many problems and the longest they were able to maintain it was two years.

    • @ahaugrud
      @ahaugrud 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I doubt that many people are too concerned that an abandoned missile silo, that is well-known to be decommissioned, and is in the middle of nowhere, is a priority target for a nuclear attack... I think maybe most people tend to expect heavily populated areas, or facilities that are actually important to the infrastructure of our government or civilization, to be a little higher on the target priority list. Who the hell is going to waste resources trying to nuke a location that will only potentially impact like 75 people? Especially when said location is specifically designed to resist nukes?

      Jason Murphy i do :3 but i dont know, i just have a very bad feeling about this project.. if i may continue the phrases u stated.. i would say "..make sure you're at the right place to dig a well..or if there is no other option then dig a well before your thirsty" in other words; do research first and take precaution before u do it.. otherwise it could be you're digging a gold.. but then its useless when u're thirsty in a desert.. (you're spending such luxurious suites with lots of foods and very comfortable yet unwanted; because it is unsafe) or would be worst your digging for nothing when you're actually digging a concrete (other words; doing/spending something at a wrong place while expecting something good).. i do agree with the second phrase.. anyway as my other comment you would missed.. i mention about who will ever get into that bunker..and i think u may know the answer on the logic i argued about in that comment/topic :3

Or they forgot to refresh the target list, or even didn't need to, cause the Airforce chose the same region or even some of the older silos anyway for its newer weapon generations.
    Jim-Bob sittin' in a Cabin in the Woods might be better off without shelter at all but far enough away from hypocenters. Else than Richy Rich in his silo, which has to deal with several megaton ground detonations in its neigbourhood, which might cause rupture or even pulverisation of that silo bunker, due to their shockwaves having been sent into the ground. @Zappina 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wont be in a nuclear war for years, silly. It will be over in weeks. After radiation kills most of the inhabitants of Earth and nuclear winter sets in, everything will be deadly quiet. The question is how long you can live in your concrete coffin? Two weeks? A year? A decade? How long you can resist the urge to go outside and face the new world. If you can stop the other for wandering out from your bunker in two week(provided you dont live in or near a hotspot which is highly unlikely when you live in an old nuclear silo) and of course if you survive numerous direct hits because of your location is a priority military target after all(again it is highly unlikely) you are good to go. After two weeks the radiation will drop to the level same before the bomb fell, so you could in theory can leave your bunker. I would wait until the survivors finish dying, looting and killing each other, the nuclear winter and the various diseases from rotting corpses to pass though. 2 years is probably more than enough.

You have to be as ready as you can be to die, because it can happen anytime. Realize how unprepared you are. Realize the reality of dying and what you will have to face, and it will be the start of a glorious quest for the truth and the life."-an excerpt from "The Present" on *the truth contest site* --->It is time to start seeking truth and life to prepare you for death, and that book teaches you how to do it.

    I am a little confused here…. If there were to be a nuclear bomb or zombie apocalypse or whatever the heck they think will happen, then who the heck is going to run the electric company? they said they wanted to have entertainment and they showed the tv… but who the heck is going to run the cable company? the zombies?
    Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome bunker but I don't see how things like the pool, the electricity, or even tap water is going to run for more then a year after some type of disaster that will wipe out most of the population.
    If anyone knows then please do tell, I would love to know how I can still watch the latest episodes of walking dead after a catastrophic disaster wipes out almost the entire population.

    the people with these bunkers are the ones that will die the fastest,
    once they run out of supplies they won't know how to take care of themselves.

    • @ahaugrud
      @ahaugrud 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't really make any sense why someone with 5 years worth of supplies would die faster than someone with 0 years worth of supplies, but alrighty.

    • @OreadNYC
      @OreadNYC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ahaugrud Okay, so people in the bunker live five years longer...maybe (assuming that nothing goes wrong, but something will almost certainly go wrong before too long because that's just how life works)
      Once one or more of the vital support systems (air, waste disposal) begin to break down or necessary supplies run low...then what?? Once you emerge from the bunker, how and where do you obtain food and potable water and shelter and fuel? If what drove you into the bunker was all-out nuclear war or environmental collapse, well...the plain and simple fact is that you probably DON'T obtain all or even most of those things because the world that you were used to is in ruins and you probably end up dying anyway. Okay, so you lived five years longer than everyone else. Whoop-de-doo...there's nobody left to care.
      In many respects, the bunker is a flawed concept and an exercise in futility in a catastrophic scenario because it only forestalls the inevitable. It attempts to create stasis, but stasis is neither a natural nor a sustainable condition -- and the longer you try to maintain it, the harder you need to work on order to do so and the greater the impact is likely to be when all your efforts eventually fail.

    • @ahaugrud
      @ahaugrud 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OreadNYC I don't exactly disagree with you, but your comment is entirely unrelated to mine. The OP said that the people in the bunker are the ones who will "die the fastest," and I was simply pointing out that that statement made no sense at all. I stated nothing more, and nothing less.
      As far as what you're talking about goes, I agree that there is a chance that hiding in a bunker will only delay the inevitable, but I disagree that that makes a bunker a "flawed concept". I mean, I suppose that it technically is, but calling it that makes it sound like you believe that there's some flawless alternative or something.
      First of all, there is no guarantee that you won't manage to live after you emerge from the bunker. Not everyone is too retarded to learn how to burn wood and boil water, and a lot of the "doomsday prepper" types go out of their way to learn and practice survival methods in various scenarios. Sure it's possible that they will emerge to a completely barren wasteland, but it's also possible that they won't. In any case, their chances of surviving are at least higher than the people who didn't take shelter in a bunker.
      But even if we ignore that, and assume that they will die in 5 years, so what? You and I are going to die eventually, so does that mean that breathing is an exercise in futility? Should we just go ahead and drop dead right now, instead of delaying the inevitable? Personally, I'd like to continue living as long as I can, and I think that most people share that sentiment. You're free to balk at the concept of extending your life by 5 years, but most people would jump at the opportunity (unless they have chronic pain or some similar condition that would make those 5 years miserable).
