This performance was part of the concert program HUMANO, performed during the World Music Contest (WMC) 2022 in the Concert Division for percussion ensembles.
“HUMANO consists of five compositions, five human-defining elements which pass by. Elements which we all encounter will be added to our thread of life, giving us direction on our life path. This evolving red life thread will be visualized by our silent actress Kiki Severins and on-stage animator Roy Wagemans. With the percussion ensemble as the main voice of these elements.
Into the Abyss, subtitled A Tale of Death, a Tale of Life, is written by the Belgian composer Kevin Houben. It is based on the corresponding documentary from Werner Herzog about the offenders of a triple family murder and those closely involved in this terrible crime. With words and music combined, we will descend into the abyss of human evil, were unspeakable acts of cruelty can grab a hold of you. A warning which we add up to our thread of life.”
