fewer episodes just means that they can put more bang for the bucks and more character growth
My theory is that Patrick Stewart will end up playing Kelly's father. It makes sense considering earlier comments by the Admiral about her father (though her father could also be played by Bakula or Shatner just the same). If Stewart has that part, it certainly opens the floodgates to great comedic and dramatic scenes between him and Captain Mercer. It's creatively sound to think that Mercer and Kelly's father don't have a solid relationship. I can just see some of the battle of witts between McFarlane and Stewart being comedy gold.
Best Character? Dr. Finn by a mile, at least so far. Penny Johnson is proving herself to be the Brent Spiner of The Orville.

Fox has a reputation for occasionally cancelling good shows. If they ever cancel The Orville before it's wrapped up in a series finale, I will be royally pissed off.
With shows like STD and movies like TLJ I'm really looking forward to The Orville again. Can't wait!

Gary's a patsy I tell you, he was set up by the easy listening hating Krill spy; or perhaps by someone else who hated his elevator music choices.
That was my call, the turbolift green guy. Second guess, The Doctor. She's the weakest character IMO.
I've been watching Star Trek since it first came out in the 60's and loved every series, but I never realized how dark and heavy Star Trek was, in all of its forms, until I saw the Orville. The ship has so much light in it and the people seem to be so much happier and certainly more normal than the Trek crews did. What a breath of fresh air! I really enjoy The Orville. A lot.
Maybe the Admiralty board will consist of Shatner, Stewart, Bakula, & all the other Trek captains. That would be a kick!

I think that the "seasons" are so short (I don't care how anyone defines a season, I still see it as 26 episodes and not 13 or 12 or 14 depending) is because Seth McFarlane is the only one writing the scripts and he wants to make sure that each episode has a high quality and he hasn't found anyone who can "burp his baby" as skillfully as he can. I would rather not see Sir Patrick Stewart or Scott Bacula or Jonathan Frakes or William Shatner or Will Wheaton or anyone else from ST do cameos. I'd rather see them in a major role. That would make the episodes much more interesting and more fun.
Isaac is by far the character I think is the best.

Btw, to whomever this might interest, saying only Sir Patrick is wrong. The right way to say it is by saying Sir, followed by the name and surname of the person. Yeah... I am that person that annoys everyone with pointless corrections.

I hope Patrick Stewart is an admiral, and that he gives Ed and/or Kelly a serious, moralizing, Star Fleet, prime directive, do-the-right-thing Captain Picard speech.

In the UK, The Admiralty used to be the old name for Naval HQ. Nowadays it has been modernised and is now know as The Ministry of Defence (Navy)
My theory about Kelly getting in hot water is that she cared more for Darulio than her duty in "Cupid's Dagger" and disobeyed the commands of the admirality in "Mad Idolartry". However, I really hope there will be a cameo of Patrick Stuard and Scott Bakula and also some more of the Xelayans (Alaras) and Kaylons (Isaacs) as they did not show much of them yet, and I am curious how their society looks like and why they have their attitues towards humans.

14 is the perfect balance. If you produce more you start to put pressure on the writing team to come up with enough material. Something that was evident in TNG with it's 26 Episodes per Season.
Love the idea of Patrick Stewart being the groundskeeper. Is he going to be an admiral? Yes definitely - but I don't actually know that. I'd like to see him as a comical villain perhaps. Love to see Q make a cameo as well.

*Kelly* is pretty awesome on the show. The female First Officer is the star of *_'STAR TREK: DISCOVERY'_* also... I think her _'punishment'_ would be the usual... They'll give her a ship of her own to Captain.
Ooh, that's cool you'd like to hang out with Scott Bakula. I agree. Him and Trip from ENTERPRISE (and most of Trek characters, pre-STD) seem like people I'd like to hang out with. And I'm really glad you pointed out the pretty obvious thing that likeable characters is something that The Orville is doing well that STD isn't. But I have to say ... personally ... I'm not sure I'd choose to hang out with most of the Orville crew. My tastes and sense of humor are not in line with TED IN SPAAAACE.
Ya know, why am I expecting, knowing Seth, that SPS will simply be Mott, the ships barber that for some reason keeps a riding saddle on one of the chairs. Of course, that could mean it would just be a cover........

14 episodes sounds good, both Brannon Braga and Ron Moore mentioned from their Star Trek time that it's extremely difficult on the writing team coming up with 26 episodes.

If Sir Patrick Stewart or Scott Bakula appear in the Orville it will be a direct slap in the face to Star track discovery which I will surely enjoy if they do appear

I know the season 1 finale wasn't the best "finale" episode, but it was the best prime directive episode in ST history.
"The Admirals Strike Back" would be a great name for the episode, though I could also go with "The Admiral Awakens."
Episode 2.1 may not be the pushed back episode. The pushed back episode was directed by Kevin Hooks and IMDB is saying that Seth MacFarlane directed 2.1. It may be that the pushed back episode may not be shown until mid-season 2.
This episode was never the season finale. It was originally episode 12 of 13. Also originally the episode was called ""Primal Urges" briefly on the site. So far we don't know if that episode is actually the one referred to here.

Kelly's a good character although I think my favorite is Isaac. All the actors are exceptional, McFarlane himself holds his own in this regard well. Are you sure Kelly isn't your fave because Palicki is a stone-cold fox? JK

I want to see more inside SciFi jokes... like the turbolift music... maybe add musak versions of classic sci fi themes. Or someone dropping in a mix tape of The Blue Danube during a docking. And I'm waiting for a crewman named Reddenbacher to show up. :-)
Well , Robert Picardo is Alaras dad and James P Morrison from Sapace above and beyond was the rebells leader on the bioship. Probably Robert will be seen some times.

OMG ... Isaac is the spy! That's why he wears the big head helmet and cut off Gordon's leg.
Actually, that could work. Isaac isn't actually Isaac but another synthetic lifeform planted by the Krill to replace the "real" Isaac. That way we don't have to lose any actual beloved character from the cast.
Since they're going back to Earth for this Admiralty review, I trust we'll be seeing Victor Garber again as Admiral Halsey. I still miss him on Legends of Tomorrow.

Season 2 episode 1 was once season 1 episode 13 so for awhile the rumors of those two making cameos in season 1 were true.

Being Stewart is heading off to do another ST series, I doubt the powers that be will let him do Orville.
I bet he could if he wanted to because he's got a lot of pull. But you're probably right. It's very unlikely. Though Patrick played himself as a Tardigrade last Sunday on Family Guy. Which is actually kinda ironic in respects to Star Trek Discovery.
Adrianne Palicki played Ms Perkins in JOHN WICK, too bad she can't have some more fighting scenes on The Orville

Have to say about Kelly skipping out on the diplomatic duties; she was under the influence of pheromones. I think if Darulio knew that his pheromones did what they do, he should be charged with sexual assault. The Orville seems to be delving into Star Trek's territory of being a societal mirror. Sexual assault and sexual harassment are current, contemporary issues I think The Orville could address.
Mike Paquette I'm not so sure how that works with people in different species. In his culture that could be considered completely normal so he didn't think much of it at first.
Didn't Lt. John (I don't remember his last minute) promotion seem out of nowhere? Like they added it in last minute? Like the old chief engineer had some other show he's going to be on now?
Sir Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, and Gil Gerard should be the Admiralty. To make me REALLY happy, get Orville roles for Dirk Benedict (Starbuck) and Herbert Jefferson Jr. (Boomer) from original BSG.
But everyone wants Scott Bakula to be their best friend, and I'm not making a *leap* of logic there either...

Maybe this is too on the nose and they'll prefer to go another way but I'm guessing Ed's going to be putting his now mended rep on the line to get Kelly out of hot water with the admiralty. This will further show that they got each other's back and ultimately make them even.

Yep! I think because I'm older, I prefer Kelly. Alara is fine as hell, but a bit young for me. Also, Kelly is a character I identify with more.
Two of my kids are exactly her age, to the day. I would be pretty disturbed if you hit on one of them, especially my daughter.

That summary isn't very grammatical. It says Kelly will get into hot water _and_ a Krill saboteur. Is this going to be some kind of_Fantastic Voyage_ nonsense?
It does sound like the episode the season should have ended on. Stopping where they did gave us no real closure, nor was it exciting enough to qualify as any kind of cliffhanger.
I'm concerned with episode 13 being moved to next season that there is time to strip our and reshoot short cameos of Patrick Stewart or the Scott (sorry don't want to google how to spell his name... Bracklava? anyway...) They might have cameos removed for whatever reasons to be used at later times or different characters. They're kind of like wild cards to be played when most needed. If ratings are OK, hold them in reserve. I hope I'm wrong.
I don't think they would cut their scenes. But I don't want either of them to play admirals. I'd prefer something more interesting at least for SirPatStew.

I think that was the plan ..they knew that episode would get ratings...if things were looking dicey...that episode would help...but.... once the show was renewed....they decided to save it for next season....

Kelly is not the star of the Orville, it is an ensemble piece, just like ST:TNG. Fourteen episodes is enough. When shows get 23 episodes, the season suffers from filler.
Tim Terrell I'd take an additional 9 episodes of filler from this show. No problem.
Yeah! With shows like this, even filler could introduce interesting new things about this universe that we didn't know before/
I still think its going to be around 18 - 6 in the fall (Sept/Oct)....6 in early spring(Feb sweeps)...6 in late spring(May/June).....roughly.....but....I might just be repeating rumors(!)...spread out a bit to avoid football/baseball/etc - with repeats mixed in...so it will feel like more of a full season...
More like DS9, TNG was about Picard and Data most of the time.
But there is no filler in a show like this.

They should introduce a new doctor in the first episode of season 2 but then when no one likes them they're just dumped from the show! Also the office of the admiralty is mentioned in Star Trek, star ship command assignment is dictated by them.
