I discovered your channel recently and have been binge watching your video's. Absolutely fantastic, I am completely surprised you do not have more subscribers. Keep up the great work!
I could swear you photographed Elle Fanning (US Actress @18:14). Great Video, Samuel! PS: I found a photo of her on Google where she does the exact same impression while walking through the street. Either it‘s a doppelgänger or it‘s such a funny coincidence. :D
The reason Gary Winogrand moves his camera around is to act like he doesn't know how his camera works i.e. looking at the top of his camera to act like he's checking his shutter speed. Thought I might share that one :) Great video!
Thanks for all the great series of videos.. I'm starting to become a real fan of yours.. Your videos are very specialize , particularly on street photography & the x100f you are using. ..something I hardly find similar in other TH-cam channels... Mostly are reviews of the camera and the content are mostly the same. I used to own a x100s, but I find myself struggling with that focal length , maybe I am just too timid and prefer to shoot with a longer focal length for street. Your videos make me reconsider taking up the challenge of using just one camera , one focal length for everything. I make up my mind to sell my x pro 2, in exchange with the x100f!
Thank you for your comment Clive! Makes me happy to hear that. Having a single camera + 1 lens set up is really liberating. I am sure you will enjoy the X100F!
Hi, I am loving your content. I'm watching as I type lol. Have you given thought to travelling to cities not on the street photography radar like Hobart Australia. I would love to hear from local photographers who live in smaller cities and how they fight the potential for boredom travelling the same streets again and again. Keep up the good work!
"on the street with" is my favorite column! By the way, while reviewing the episodes, I came across an interesting plot - at 18.14 a very interesting actress who played the main role in the series "The Great" was caught in the frame. Her name is Mary Elle Fanning )
Sam seems like a cool guy. I was also curious about his flash before this and I've never tried flash in street photography before. Maybe I'll give it a go!
I really enjoy this series of videos -- a little insight into how photographers shoot. I'm not sure if you're done the video before, but could you share how to zone focus on the x100f? or even the back button focus that I THINK you also use. Thank you!
Cool vid, Samuel. Like your “from the chest/shoulder” shooting technique. Have you posted an episode that concentrates on various shooting methods? Am trying to develop/adapt what’s best suited to myself.
Hey Sam, I stumbled across your videos because I’m about to get a Fuji X100f. I really love the way you film these & the length of these videos! Keep it up man!
I don't know if it was the fisheye lens, but it looked like Sam Rodgers has alotta Swag to his walk haha. I dig it. Great video Samuel!!! Started my morning off right watching this. Hopefully, if I get my game up, I can be featured on an episode one day haha.
You have many cool events and festivals in london, so chances are high you will bump into each other :) I have to come over for the LSPF or the street dinner this year...
Great video. Thanks Samuel. Might I be cheeky and get a few opinions on an issue that's preoccupied me since I began shooting street on a digital camera many years ago? I always shoot through the viewfinder, never via the screen. This seems to me the purest way of going about it. To use the screen, for me at least, is cheating. I can't seem to get my head past this. It's the viewfinder or nothing. Of course just using the viewfinder means you risk missing a shot. It's pretty bloody obvious what you're doing when you raise the camera to your eye. I'm old enough to remember shooting film on cameras without a screen. Maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, great channel; great content. x
I agree it feels a bit like cheating or less genuine to use the LCD instead of the viewfinder. But I think it's just another method and I don't mind it when others prefer to shoot with the LCD. If you think about it, it is not that much different than looking through an EVF. You can still see your composition and do the framing. Some interesting differences I noticed are that people see my face better when I shoot with the LCD screen and they react more to my facial expression. With the Viewfinder they can't really see my eyes and it feels like putting a barrier infront of them. I often smile while shooting and if I don't give people eye contact I can feel that they feel unfcomfortable. But when I quickly look them in the eyes and smile after taking a photograph I get much more friendly reactions. When I shoot with a viewfinder I can see people following my camera with their eyes and not really focusing on my face. On the other hand I can concentrate better when I look through the viewfinder because I feel like I am in my little world and I am safe. James Nachtwey I think said this too that he feels safe behind the camera and I can imagine it would be very hard and difficult to photograph war zones with the LCD only. You would feel physical closer to whats happening. So for me the LCD is just another way of photographing at I use it for it's advantages. Same goes for the viewfinder.
Hi Samuel, thank you so much for your full and beautifully argued response. Some wise words there. I shall attempt to fall in love with the LCD on my X-Pro 2 the next time I take it out. All the best. Gary
I only edit my photos on my phone with snapseed. But not that often because I like whats coming out of the cam already! For sharp photos I shoot 1/500, Aperture between F5.6-F16 and prefocusing to 1.5-3 meter. Not always but something like that.
Oh no that is just coincidence :D I always give my guests a specific color, while the subtitles when I speak are just white. To make it easier to know who is talking.
You are not going insane 😄 I didn't know it until I checked my images from that day in the subway. It's Elle Fanning with her sister and mother actually.
Disrespectful posting shots like this on youtube, wtf is up with some people that they long for acceptance from the community so much they won't respect other human beings. Some street photographers really have no basic human decency.
Its less hassle if you shoot from the hip. Only need to press shutter button. It's less conspicuous. Also walk a bit slower. Look for patches of good light.
Watching how people work is so fascinating. I admit i dont feel i could do that style in my own culture but here in Asia people just think you're a tourist
I don't know why but this series makes me smile while learning so much about the process. Thank you for you your work.
And it makes me smile to hear that!

elle and dakota
Isn’t she?
The x-pro 2 sounds like an old analog point and shoot camera where the camera automatically winds the film. Love these videos!
That is because I used a generic shutter sound effect... The real shutter sound of the x-pro2 is of course different :)
Another great edition to the series - love seeing and hearing photographers talk about their process. Pumped for the next installment.

Its so much fun to see him doing it in that video :D
I love that fumbling around he would do. Smart move, and it works ;-)
I've recently started using that technique and it actually works wonders
I use this technique all the time. Winogrand the MASTER

18:15 I think you just got Elle Fanning omg!
yes. she's elle fanning.
it is her yes :D
It looks like her a lot, but on her a nstagram she was in Shanghai like 3 days ago
It's an old shot from Samuel I've seen in other videos
@WoolFlannel THEY DONT KNOW PepeLaugh
Such a dope video. I'm almost want to get into street photography.
Absolutely wonderfull these videos , i like that they are 20+ minutes
Glad to hear that!
I’m the guy vaping at 0:30 😂😂😂😂 great shot guys 😉
I good lesson on how important it is to have fun in doing what you're doing. Thanks for showing us.
Very important :)
I love these videos so much, you're so talented both street photography and editing wise. keep up the great work :)
Man this is the best street photography video I've seen on TH-cam
Aw thanks man! Happy to hear that.
Great video Sam. Really enjoyed seeing your work.
Great stuff Samuel! It reminds me Eric Kim’s videos 10 years ago. Good to see that there is new streetmeat :-).
this is make me so hype to go streetphotography
Thank you !

Really love this series you're doing. Super interesting and educational. Keep it up man!
Glad to hear that Rob! More is coming soon!
this serie is so freshhh
Love this series

That is a topic I haven't covered yet but I will do a video about that eventually.
Great video Samuel. China Town has been my hunting ground as of late. I’m not quite as in your face as your guest but I’m going to have to work on it!
Thanks for the new episode, great job. And I love the Golf analogy. Keep it up!
Thanks Lars!
Cool vid, Samuel. Like your “from the chest/shoulder” shooting technique. Have you posted an episode that concentrates on various shooting methods? Am trying to develop/adapt what’s best suited to myself.
I will consider making a video about that! Very interesting topic I think
Well done Sam. So on the street do you mostly use zone focus or auto focus ? I love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing!
I use both! But mostly zone focusing (when there is enough light).
Nice Video, was fun and entertaining watching you both in the streets.
those streets looking pretty vibrant during the day
Love this series, looking forward to future episodes!
Loved this one guys! gonna watch all of these now haha
Excellent video to start the day. Excellent video, great series!
which shutter speed do you often use when shooting like this, walking, to avoid motion blur?

Haha! I have to be careful not to put people on the edge of the screen.
Digging this series man. Keep it going!
I enjoyed it very much. The pictures were wonderful, too.
Thanks!!
8:03 best shot.. wow.
18:15 the fannings
Yes, by accident :)
Easy for me to say it, but WE NEED MORE OF THESE!! :D
Great video but why I hear the same music that you put the end of the video in every street photography channel.kind of sad ;(
Awesome Sam, have really been looking forward to this episode. Cheers on the great series
Suzuki Technique!! ahahaha
I meet Tatsuo-san in Tokyo last month, what a nice guy!
Keep the good job Samuel, those videos make my day! Thank you!
We all would love to have the balls he has, don't we? :D
These episodes are really cool. Specially because you show how your guest works Please keep them coming. I also love the detail in 13:02 XD
That was an awesome moment haha!
yellow again! yellow again! but we love the Nikon's yellow! :)
Somehow we are drawn to it!
Hahaa! I'm literally wading through hundreds of photos while I'm listening/watching this.
Interesting video I enjoy that some great pics 👍🏻📷😊
Great shots!
but at 18:14 pm is actress Elle Fanning with her sister?
Wow I do street on a full frame dslr but now I feel tempted to whip out my tiny m43 again after watching this lol
There really is comedy in Sam's shots and I don't think he should change it just to change it.
👏👏👏 another amazing episode
Another great video! 👏🏼👏🏼
Can you give me link for this music under?
Great episode.. thumbs up from Sweden.. 🤗
//freddie
Love these On the Street videos! How do you zone focus with the X100F?
termz use af lock
Yeah! absolutely great! video! Samuel! brilliant!!! "what lens was on the XPro 2?"
Thank you! I think it was the 23mm f2
Was that the 23mm f2 with the xpro2?
Yes, at 1:04 mins you can see the lens.
MuayThaiChampionShop dope, thank you 😊
Wish I could have seen you, I was out doing street photography the same day in the same places as you😂, just a couple of hours after
Ah shoot! Next time :)
9:10 even if spotted, that is a very beautiful shot!
wish i could show you around detroit, always some off the wall stuff going on to photograph
good interview
18:15 oh man, Elle Fanning!
Nice episode.
So cool as always! It would be amazing an OTSW Eduardo Pavez Goye :D
It's on my list. If he is up for it :)
I took a photo of the guy with the cat at Waterloo Station! Small world.
Nice vid, Sam seems like a really nice guy, hope I bump into him.
You have many cool events and festivals in london, so chances are high you will bump into each other :) I have to come over for the LSPF or the street dinner this year...
Been waiting for this ❤️❤️
You dont stop to take the photo!, so which shutter speed do you use?
Above 1/500 mostly
Samuel L. Streetlife Thanks

It is a personal choice. Plus sometimes in the bright sunlight I can’t see a damn thing on the screen.
@@Vladimiradventurephotography Good point. That's a weakness of the LCD screen.

great video.

Suuuper Fotos! Please tell me they are heavily edited in post or how do you nail focus, framing and aperture like that!???

great series, you might want to consider micing everyone up, especially your guests, to a dedicated recorder and sync it up after
Yes, started doing that with the next episode :)
wait it was two episodes after that. Ulysses Aoki episode is where I started using mics for the guests
Nice episode
That fox shot! (2.47)
Is that shade of blue in the subtitles a throwback to Star Wars after releasing "his inner photographic Vader?"
Oh no that is just coincidence :D I always give my guests a specific color, while the subtitles when I speak are just white. To make it easier to know who is talking.
9:10 beautiful shot!
more of this!
At 18:14, am I going insane or did you just casually photographed Elle Fanning?
You are not going insane 😄 I didn't know it until I checked my images from that day in the subway. It's Elle Fanning with her sister and mother actually.
@@SamuelStreetlife Wow that’s awesome, I’ve spend like 10min looking at some photos of her to be sure. Good to know that I’m not going insane yet haha

mind that girl beside him......
Probably one of the best shots from this video lol
Disrespectful posting shots like this on youtube, wtf is up with some people that they long for acceptance from the community so much they won't respect other human beings. Some street photographers really have no basic human decency.
I was looking for a comment about that part of the video. That's the best photo...
@@skypekai +1. I have to agree
Nice vídeo🎥!

I like the video. But there's a funny subtitle mistake at 9:25… he says "now I'm a lot more "choosy", not "cheezy".
Watching how people work is so fascinating. I admit i dont feel i could do that style in my own culture but here in Asia people just think you're a tourist
That sounds like a big benefit!
FIRST !!
Don’t really care, just hyped about the video coming out :)
What's happening in there? 8:02
3:00 I've seen this trans play! Literally plays on every pianos available in London
Hahaha, @justsul in the background at 4:30
Yeeeeehaaaaaaaa
cool!

Salutations from Turkey, Sam.
I have the same question!
Did anyone else notice he got a photo of Elle and Dakota Fanning ???
Is ElleFaning at 18:14???
