If you want to upgrade that hookup ratio for snakes just lock the drag down and don’t set as hard. 💪🏻
id just use a heavier rod, lot less effort/more effective in setting a hook.. fishing light rods is more fun but less effective sometimes.
Simply hook more fish. Fish all the time until they jump into boat for you:)

Man, the opening scene is EXACTLY how I roll when I visit my brother in Siesta Key! He lives on a JUICY neighborhood pond 20’ from his back door. The snakehead snag and All!! Florida is a wild kingdom, to say the least!

This is one of my favorite ways to fish. Find a small pond or Creek and start tossing small baits. Reminds me of fishing small creeks in the Ozarks when I was a kid.

I fish a lot of light and ultralight rods but I switched from mono to braid about 5-years ago. Now I rarely lose a fish.
Back off the power a little on the hook-set and try to pull straight back for the set instead of to the side. You’ll notice more successful hookups!

We have more canals than Venice Italy. You should look into fishing these waters. You get tarpon reddish large mouth crappie, Snake head and more. Stay strong and keep fishing.

With snakeheads we have something called the "2 second rule". Once they hit it, count to 2 then set the hook. And buzz toads work 10x better than hollow body frogs.

See I like to use the hollow body but also what I like to use is lunkerhunt mice and it slays snakeheads
@@sebsora4694 since I mainly catch and release snakes, I find the double hooks on the hollows goes through the snake's brains more often so that's why I prefer buzz toads with a single wide gap hook. My PB came off a white zoom horny toad believe it or not.

As someone who has lived in Florida his whole life I’m letting you know that If you catch an invasive species DON’T throw them back. PLEASE. they continue to ruin our waters and fisheries more and more each year. Lion fish have gotten so bad that they’re killed on site then discarded.
