- I took my RAD Grade 6 ballet exam in March 2018 at the age of 29. Here's a video of me rambling on about my preparation for it, the exam day itself and my results.

My name is Gemma and I've been dancing as an adult for two and a half years, though I did dance throughout my childhood before taking an 8 year break. I created this channel to show all the opportunities that are still available out there for adults who want to dance no matter their ability or background.
This is really good. I'm considering taking the grade 7 and a 42 year old but have some real apprehension as it's so long since I really danced but it's something I hope to do eventually so this has been a great insight as to how it goes as an adult returning to ballet so thank you for posting this😊
Thank you for this account of your experiences with Grade 6. I am 69 and trying for Grade 6, but I am terrified and am sure I will fall apart in an exam studio.
I took grade 6 as a beginner two years ago at the age of 70 and achieved a high pass. Was so pleased.. Hope you did well.
@@gillschmid5267 Hello Gill. Very well done!. I am exactly the same age as you but I unfortunately developed arthritis in my hip and in my lower back and this has slowed my progress a lot. For exmple, I can pirouette to the right, but not to the left as my painful leg has to support everything. Also the character work is such hard going with all those heel clicks. I am still working on it each week but may have to have a hip replacement before I can perform well again. Scraping a pass at this point would be a miracle.
Sorry to hear that Sarah, what a shame. Arthritis is so painful. Did it come on quickly out of the blue? I'm surprised you can still dance. Grade 6 is certainly a difficult exam to pass especially as a newcomer to ballet. Do you dance with other students?
As an adult ballet dancer I have been very interested in RAD exams and it's unfortunate that I live in America . Here I am at 27 and is it possible to proceed in it?
It's a shame RAD isn't as common in America. You can try using their website to see if there's a teacher near you. www.royalacademyofdance.org/learn-to-dance/find-an-rad-teacher
There are also other exam boards which do ballet exams but I don't know enough about them to give you any advice.
Hi, how old were you when you took the exam as an adult? And did you stop ballet and re start? If so how long did you stop for?
I’ve recently re started in RAD too so am just wondering! Hope it all goes well for you :)
I think I was 29. I did ballet from 4-17 and then started again at 26.
theballetgremlin Thank you for replying! I’ve had a 20 year break from ballet and 15 years from dance training so guess I have a lot more catching up to do!
Thanks for the videos, they’re very helpful :)
Hi I am taking my intermediate foundation exam soon and I was wondering do you still get the medal badge thing in vocational grades?
No
