I first saw Ivan ride in a British League match in 1973. My father told me to watch him, he's a winner. In my opinion he was probably the first truly professional speedway rider. Thanks for all the good times.

I first met and saw Ivan Mauger in action in 1963 or 64 at Brough Park Newcastle when He was a Newcastle Diamond . He was already a Top rider by then and went on to show the World what being a professional Speedway rider meant . King Ivan .

RIP Ivan. My boyhood hero. Saw him in 1977 at the white city stadium in the intercontinental final just about qualify for the world final after a re run where he came third. Legend is a word banded around a lot nowadays but he was. Always remembered by me and my family.

He stayed at our house a few times in the late 90's when he was running the golden helmet races in my home town. Picked his brain for riding tips pretty much the whole time.

Great video, love the guy, he was my hero growing up, what a great role model, I think I have turned out something like him, and Peter Collins too, very humble, never too cocky. Always knew my limits, never suffered fools, gladly, always gave it my best, never tried too hard. Have sat astride a speedway bike, Sorens actually, at Cradley Heath, so sorry I never tried it for real.

As a youngster, I'd go to Belle Vue with my dad, sister and her boyfriend (now husband). Saturday evening, cushions to sit on, flask of coffee and sandwiches. It could be a howling gale and torrential rain but there he was.

That video is why we do not have the support for our great sport today, because the modern bikes of today sound like Singer sewing machines .That was a true speedway bike with the proper sound being ridden by the GREATEST speedway rider who threw his leg over a speedway bike, the legend who was IVAN MAUGER .

about 72 for me I think. Remember being showered with granite chip and the smell. Still got Triple Crown Plus on the bookshelf. Met Ronnie Moore years later as we picked up our CX400s at Hollands. He was a great guy to chat to.

We had him at the Murray Bridge Speedway Classic about 15 years ago. I had seen him in the pits in civvys then a little later heard a solo being ridden very hard an made a beeline to the track. A semi modern bike and rode so well. Made all the amatuers playing with their classics look slow. Though some were far from slow.
I saw him race in his heyday at Rowley Pk speedway on numerous occasions. He was generally just a bit better than all the pros, got beaten on occasion but did win more than he lost

Of course he is, that's why he was born in CHCH Women's Hospital, he was a big Canterbury Rugby Fan as he was a Canterbury boy at heart, he had a small pad on the Gold Coast to be near kids and events, he was 110% Kiwi
