    Wow! I'm just an old guy...and I am SO impressed with your knowledge...you go girl!! I have an old robot with opposing stepper motors on the main arm axis and you just explained a possible solution. Your neurons reached my old brain !! In the 1980's I worked for Cincinnati Milacron costing robot systems on old computers using punched cards....but the youth of today are inspiring with the flow of knowledge collectively sharing skills and ideas. Even in the mid '80's we had ganrtry robots with flat tape filaments that built up 3D parts layer by layer. Milacron called them "tape laying machines" insted of 3D printers...but the concept was the same. Toray uses Cincinnati Milacron gantry systems using this process to make parts for Boeing aircraft. (Look at an old ScoreBot ER4U robot and you can see what I mean)

    Will the motors stay in sync? I wired mine like this without any load, just the motors facing each other with tape on the shafts, and they seemed to slowly go out of sync. Will they act better with a load on the gantry?

    Is the load of both stepper need to be way lower of the total of the driver ? very Nice.

      @glyn hodges Hi Glyn - I need to put to Nema 17 60 oz motors on one drive and have the spin in opposite direction - can you suggest a better way?

    • @MrIzaks
      @MrIzaks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @glyn hodges Thank you Glyn. i'm running few intial tests right now (motors are on the table) and not sure I can trust the results without load or precise way to measures lost steps etc... maybe need to buy couple more drivers.

    • @MrIzaks
      @MrIzaks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @glyn hodges this is my first CNC build. decided to build MPCNC and once i gain experience and know exactly what i want, i will use the stand alone controller and stepper drivers in the new chasies and get Nema 23 or 34 motors for the new build.
      today i use small nema 17 60oz motors so i figured for this build i can get by with 1.3A RMS per motor. didn't see any problem (current wise) connecting 2 motors to one DM542T.
      I still dont understand the limitation. if i have driver that can push 4A and I connect 2 motors that take less the 3A together - what could be the reason for skipped steps?

    Excellent explanation , but i have a question. If we have two stepper motors with 3amp each how can we calculate and set up dip switches ? Must we have set up dip switches to 3amps or to 6amps?6 ams?

    • @d_dadang5467
      @d_dadang5467 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i'll help to answer, its must be 6amp, cause that basic stepper motor used coil in the inside and the coil formula same like resistor formula. this not need to more voltage just amp

  • @robsretrorides796

    Just a heads up everyone - you do NOT attach 2 stepper motors to one controller. You attach the 2 motors to 2 different motor controllers, then attach the motor controllers to the SAME connection from the motor controller to the mainboard/Arduino etc.
    Firstly, the amps are too high, you will have x2 3amp motors attached to a control board with a maximum 5 amp available.
    Secondly, the motors will go out of sync, as the motor controller does not know there are 2 motors attached it, and one motor is likely to "hog" more power than the other.
    The a+ -> b+, etc, that is fine, do that, but on a separate motor controller, not the same one!
    I still gave it a thumbs up, because it was of some assistance, BUT it is not the best advice!

    • @MYTHICALTWINKIE
      @MYTHICALTWINKIE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So basically just connect steppers to two separate drivers ( to avoid burning them ) but merge both driver connections to the same inputs on the arduino. Did I understand that correctly?
      Side note. If I use two steppers and two drivers without reversing direction on one stepper. And merge the driver connections together too the arduino input. Would that work? Thanks!

    • @m3chanist
      @m3chanist ปีที่แล้ว

      This is wrong, it is common practice to wire steppers both in parallel to a single driver as shown here or in series, the controller is a current limiter.

    will it work the same way if i have 2 stepper motor attached to different drivers having the same pul and dir single from the board give to both the drivers but just inverting the wires A and b in the drive not directly connecting it to the stepper motor. please help

    Need 8 amps but an 8amp driver is $150+
    Can i run two 4amp drivers in parallel to one motor?

    • @isettech
      @isettech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can sacrifice speed and wire them in series. For example without reversing, A+ of one motor to the driver and A- to the A+ of the 2nd motor and the 2nd motor A- to the driver A-. Do the same for the other phase. To reverse the 2nd motor, swap just one pair of the motor windings. For example swap B+ with B- on the 2nd motor only to reverse it.

    • @curiousbystander9193
      @curiousbystander9193 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I need this, essentially two pinion bevel gears on the opposite sides of main drive gear. Can this be done similarly? Seems there;s some debate here whether you can run to motors with one driver and signaler, as displayed here. WHat is displayed here is clockwise/counterclockwise and vice versa in reverse, and I need, clockwise/clockwise.

    • @joruf81

      No, it is not safe, it is better to wire it in series, otherwise it could damage the control unit!! But it is allowed to put each half knowledge online

    • @jackfiamingo9180

      What would cause them to go out of sync when they are receiving information from the same device simultaneously?

  • @GirishMurthy1986
    @GirishMurthy1986 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not recommended for two reasons:
    1. TB6600 will be over loaded
    2. Current Distribution will be uneven and motors WILL go out of sync

      better use both motor own driver, drivers have cheap, and share step and dir pin controller to driver wires only. etc, y step go to driver 1 step AND driver2 pin step, same dir. go controller y step go driver 1 AND 2 dir pin. both drivers read same signal what come out at controller, better than swap motors wires.
