This was helpful. What I really need is to know though is how to even get to the point of an interview. I’m a Sr Prod Mgr with solid experience, but still can’t get my foot in the door at any of these big tech cos. I think it’s my age and/or degree, because I’m getting booted by the ATS within hours of submitting. Should I just give up?
SMART Marketing, never give up!! If you are applying to roles and not getting in the door, stop applying and start networking. The best way to network is to give first. Reach out to people that you want to connect with on LinkedIn and share a cool article or video and ask for nothing. Set a goal of reaching out to 10 people a week, 20 people a week, and in all interactions ask for nothing. It is a bit of a long game, but do this for 3 to 6 months and trust me, you will open some doors. I hope this helps, remember, never give up!
Water Eyes, yup! I am low and slow and I encourage everyone to watch/listen to me on 2X. And any time anyone brings up the 2X comment I love it because I do all my learning on 2X, allowing me to consume twice as much content, books, etc.
eon001, great point and definitely something to consider as a video. I worked in the DC space or 3 years at Google and I do have DC Engineers, Technicians, PgM's, and Analysts as clients. Thank you for the suggestion!
@@jeffhsipepi I have my 2nd DC Google interview this week (Linux and Hardware). I can't find a hardly any reference aids online. I'm actually considering doing a video myself for other DC techs. Thanks for the reply. Wish me luck. If I'm successful I'll probably be right back here asking for advice ;)
@@jeffhsipepi Weird timing, I literally just finished my 2nd web cam interview a few hours ago. It didn't go bad, but I'm never 100% sure about my chance's no matter how good it went. Either way I do plan on making more content around my interviews and the Data center life style. Thanks for the response's. There appreciated.
Rachel, thanks! APM interviews will still be challenging an look for the same items discussed in this video, but you will not be expected to have the same level of depth. Focus on keeping it simple and staying organized, and obviously follow all of Stephen's great advice!
I don't get the hate for frameworks. A good answer that covers the bases is still a good answer. This isn't a creative writing exercise. If I was at work, no one is going to punish you for using a framework - it shows orderly, structured thinking.
z5m2, you and I are 100% aligned, I believe that frameworks are a powerful tool that help us stay organized in our answers. Stephen's channel and content are exceptional, this is one area that we do not 100% agree on. Still, if you have not checked out his resources at www.tryexponent.com/, you should!
Thanks for this upload! This interview is insightful and I appreciate your coaching style, Jeff.
Sevinity, thanks!

Have you ever spoken to Data Center engineers? I've sen a lot of PM's and coders. Nothing for the Hardware, Data center space.

Hi! Do you know if there’s a difference between the APM interview and a regular PM interview? Loved this collab :)

Definitely! You’ll also have a take home assignment in APM interviews usually. Good luck!
