I'm like you, I want a story and the romance to be secondary. I think that's why I prefer chicklit rather than straight up romances. I do think I read some of those Emilie Loring books. some of the covers look familiar and I know I read some of hers as a teen - they were in our church library.
I think these must have been the same editions my mom owned because she told me she recognized some of the covers, too. I wish more people knew of Emilie Loring and could find her books easily. She was a treasure. Her writing style, the complexity of her sentences, and the detailed descriptions and imagery she created with her words are hard to beat. ❤️
I just viewed your other video where you talked about the haul for the Loring books. What a lovely backstory. I think THAT is the best romance story -- your mom loving the author, your dad picking them up for her, and her reading them while she nursed you. I've never heard of Emilie Loring! My sister just gave me a stack of Elizabeth Mansfield books, which are vintage Regency romances (when I say vintage I mean 80s and 90s lol).
