    I recall in one of Kie's stream he was trying to chase the world record holder to set a lap time for the Sardegna race and he couldn't explain why the ghost was taking off at the final corner. He suspected it has something to do with the session conditions but couldn't prove it at the time. This seems to corroborate his gutfeelings on this. That the conditions vary in some way from session to session.
    I support the shot gun qualifier before each race. As it also allows people to start from the back if they wanted to by just forfeiting the quali lap. Dunno if PD is receptive to that as they seem to be doing their own thing...

    I noticed this when we had race A at SSRX, you could see the temperature in cockpit view of one of the cars (IIRC the AMG) and it was different every time you entered and changes as you drive along. The cooler it was the more engine power and higher top speed.

    My dream would be a Daily Race D.
    - 20 Cars (or more)
    - 5 minutes qualifying
    - 30 - 45 minutes race
    - 1 mandatory pit stop
    - Repairing damage costs time in the pits
    I think it's better if you have to do a new qualifying time before every race. It makes it much more exciting and interesting.

      100%. The longer the race, the more the average player in that lobby actually cares about racing. I don’t even bother with Daily Race B anymore for that reason. The variance in player base makes it so that it’s a crapshoot whether you get a good race or you get taken out Turn 1 by someone who can’t handle being overtaken.

    This is why using dashboard apps for tyre temps is important at the moment. You can see tyre temps for leaderboards when you watch replay. And check that your own tyre's are the same temperature. Another way to solve it is actually being able to see the temperature when doing daily time trail. We can only see the wind conditions.

    I haven't tested this yet but i think this is happening because of the different climate physic or the road temperature physics, which is connected to the grip. This may be because of the temperature difference on the road surface where sunlight is more, those places may get more grip (like the road physic after a rain).. something like that... Not 100% sure but this must be tested. I will post the result below my comment later.

    This is something I was wondering about myself, you did a good job explaining it.
    Sometimes, in between daily races I jump into qualifying to try and improve my time, just to end up asking how did I managed to do a lap 0.7s faster than I'm currently doing?
    GT7 HUD doesn't display all of the information that the game actually evaluates, so maybe having a phone with the telemetry app next to you might help to identify godlike sessions and their parameters.
    I'm just hoping this is not a core game engine issue with physics or timing measurements, because that would be a tough one to debug and solve.

    Ok, they could give us more slots eg. 00/15/30/45 lasting 25 to 30 minutes, so you could maybe enter the over/next slot to qualify... But anyway, too much effort for PD...

    I've always felt like some sessions had more grip than others, glad to see you make this video. I think it happens in online lap time challenges too. Today at the Seaside online time trial I started off and the Gr3 Ferrari just didn't feel the same, felt like it had more understeer on corner entry and that I couldn't get the power down as well, my lap times where much slower. I exited restarted and the Ferrari instantly felt better, less understeer and I could get the power down easier. My times where 3 tenths better and the car it self felt better.

Then all of a sudden my time was beaten by 30 seconds I should clarify the race involved a wet spell. It turned out that by doing this reset eventually you could get a session with no rain??! • @macdabro
    @macdabro ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think it might be connected to air and road temps being a bit different in different sessions. Even cloud cover and amount of sunlight might play a role. This would then cause tyres to heat and cool differently, which kinda makes sense. Maybe this is how PD imagined road condition variety...
    I think I remember restarting a session some time ago at Dragon Trail Gardens to get less sunshine so tyres wouldn't overheat, which would allow me to push more.
    Edit: having a second thought.. Did PD really implement the temperature of engine air intake? (colder, more dense air = more oxygen = more power)

    Great vid tidge, i have noticed exactly this too with lap times, i wondered whether it may have something to do with loading of the tracks via the internet or PSX when restarting and reloading, maybe some kid of loading glitch allows for a variation in tolerances regarding track grip weather wind etc or even vehicle stats changing slightly or even BOP variances....... could be something miniscule or literally anything but as you said 1/10th can make a huge difference.....

    There's information we are missing that may influence performance, Tyre Temperature, air temperature, and track temp, If this is the case, it needs to be added somewhere, so you can see it. My only sensible guess for why it happens is one of those three conditions changes,
    There's an app that gives tyre temps, if you did not know.
    The best solution is Qualy Sessions before the race,

      Ps spa may be a good test next time it's Round as if it's a temp/engine power issue then you loose getting up the hill and down the straight, if it's also a tyre temp/grip issue it would probably be worse than its showing on tighter tracks 🤔. • @X-Being
    @X-Being ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tidgney, GT markets itself as a racing simulator... that means real world variables. Cars vary in stats and abilities, tracks vary in layout and attributes.. weather varies affects on vehicles.
    Not just in tire temps, but track temp, air intake and even down force are affected by temperatures in the real world, and drivers deal with it in real life, too. Drivers end up with qualifying time slots all over the time spectrum and they don't all get the same. They have to take those affects into account.
    Just like choosing the best car for the track. In many cases, you have to included the weather into your strategy. Tire wear and fuel usage SHOULD be affected.
    Air Density Tuning is a major thing with racing. But, without ability to tune, you are left with simply understanding how the vehicles (and tracks) respond to the change. Just like picking cars and tires...

    • @Stroker-Z28
      @Stroker-Z28 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't matter what they "market" it as, GT is not now and never has been a "sim". It's a fun game that you can just jump on and race.

    • @X-Being
      @X-Being ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stroker-Z28 It is important, as it points to their developers focus. Is it perfect, no... but I was pointing out the flaws in examining varied conditions, and expecting static results.... because that is the intent of the developers!!
      And no, you can't just "jump on and race", their is one or two Meta cars for the tracks, race specs and otherwise.
      Many of the drivers, nearly consistently, have asked for strategy in the racing... strategy comes from using the variables to an advantage. Like when to pit, picking a car that works best for the conditions (better fuel, better tire wear, better top-end speed, etc...).
      Well, qualifying IS part of the strategy! Just like real life racing... because that is how the developers are focused on making it...

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do understand that there are real world variables and the 1 question I fire back at anyone in this situation is name 1 serious circuit racing series globally where the participants all do qualifying on different days in different conditions for the same race and that everyone participating doesn't have a clue what any of the variables are like temperature etc.

    • @X-Being
      @X-Being ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tidgney Just like the races, themselves, weather can changes in just a matter of minutes. Does not need to be separate days.
      Take 24-hr at Le Mans and Road to Le Mans... each driver is given 15-minute sessions over a two hour time frame. The temps in June, from 22:00 to 00:00 can change significantly.
      Showers or Rain can develop and end in a couple hours, it has even happened on Race days.
      Personally, I like the Sprint car Qualifying, where round 1 is standard format, but Round 2 is a mini-race.

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@X-Being But I think you're missing the point. On a Race or Qualifying day for those competition everyone is on the track at the same time. In Qualifying as you say everyone has a 2 hour session, but everyone also has the same opportunity for the best moment to qualify. Here we do not, with some not even knowing you can get a wet session, dry or make a dry session even better if you're lucky enough to get that session. But for those that do you then have to play the random number generator and hope you get that session or exit and restart continiously until you do. Unless someone can name a race series where random qualifying happens I still stand by the fact this is actually less realistic at the moment and not more realistic.
      I'm also not saying for a Race this should change, it's perfectly fine for racing as everyone in that race has the same changing conditions. For qualifying it's an issue.

    This is a big problem for daily races, I remember when we had Gr4 on Spa, where you fished for a good wind and not rain. I had the same experience, where i thought i had somewhat same conditions, but i was almost 1s faster in the last session. The qualy and race should be seperate sessions, and therefore you should be able to have different settings for each session.
    Another thing, not sure if you ever noticed or experienced it, but in lobbies or daily races, I can be fairly consistent, and close to my optimal, but suddenly it feels like i am driving with dirty tires constantly. I have to brake 20m before what i normally do, and my general pace is off by sometimes more than 1s. This has happened when the tires are fresh, when the tires are at optimal working temp, and when the tires are worn. This sensation is frustrating, and it can suddenly appear and disappear, which can ruin a race. This happens while im out of the gravel. Any thoughts on this?

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think with your lobby / racing issue it could be a number of things. Wtih fresh tyres it'll definitely be tyre temps once they are warmed up it should be fine, Sardegna C reverse when I changed tyres it was 3 laps before I got upto good pace. If you are experiencing it during the race then I suspect the circuit may have changed, it does change as you race (I have no problem with that before anyone randomlly jumps on this comment haha) and you could be experiencing if it gets cooler tyres not working as well with also engine power increasing so a combination? I'd have to see a replay to get more of an idea though

    • @thomaswalbeck1087
      @thomaswalbeck1087 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, have been thinking that aswell, but we are racing on fixed weather, so the weather and temps shouldnt be that huge of a factor? While i know it can take upto 2-3 laps to get the tires working, but this happens when we are doing hotlaps(tyre and fuel wear). It can then last for everything around 2-3 laps or even up to 10-15 laps at the most. My inital thought was, since its a P2P connection, the game detects that you are off track(just minimal but enough to get dirty tires), but you dont see or feel it, if that made sense? If i remember next time ill save the record and share it.@@tidgney

I don’t understand how on Monday I often take 3 laps and set a good time and then spend the week chasing it, it every now and then I get a session where I knock off one hundredth consistently - which says to me there are different things at play.

    A few weeks ago I was trying to get gold in the red bull time trial, and I just couldn't do it for an hour. I got tired and quit... but I said to me "no, you can do this" and instantly went back in. Gold time in the first lap. I can't assure it was this glitch, but I also have no doubts.

    I’ve noticed that my record laps are routinely achieved within the first three laps after having a go for 10 or so laps, jumping out and coming back to the track. I always found this weird but I noticed recently that my record lap has been occurring earlier after jumping back in and lately I’m getting it done on the first lap which really doesn’t make sense. I kick back on this whole app thing that says TT has tire temps all the time. Many times, my first lap has been my best lap. Obviously, things changes when you are feeling for times and trying different things, but when you have to really struggle to repeat that first lap, because your brain is starting to get in the way, you start to realize that over thinking things can sometimes make them more difficult.

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ye I've argued it for awhile with tyre temps, they may change based on the session but lap 1 to 10 there's no difference. The big kicker for me is do a pitstop then drive on the new tyres, that's cold tyres and you can really feel the difference there.

    Very interesting, I suspected something for a while where when it's cloudier / cooler and maybe dusk that's when your lap times improve but that was after a continous session, but then like you've demonstrated it also changes after starting a new session, I think PD are just trying to make the game look pretty but to the detriment of the enjoyment in getting a faster lap time, like the wind although it's realistic to have different conditions in real life, for a game it's just things that don't need to be simulated, I also agree on having proper qualifying, for a long time now I've been saying you shouldn't be able to qualify in one car then use that time for another, it's a nonsense or if you do use a car that you didn't qualify with then you're at the back or whatever time you did set with any given car, this might actually help with some races not having one make races, I'm sick of seeing by mid week or earlier the established meta car out of 30+ cars it's ridiculous !

    Tidge?     • @tidgney

    Do you think the same applies to your own lobbies? I've a gut feeling that this is the case. When I practicefor our Sunday league races, I often find some sessions better than others. Then on race day you can find yourself off your own practice race, even accounting for race-day nerves etc.

    • @tidgney

      The critical part of practicing online vs offline is that you need to enable BOP otherwise you'll be very limited. You can't enable BOP offline very easily at a circuit which is really frustrating. It is a suggestion that was fed back to PD some time ago.

    Using Equal Mode (no wind/temp) in TT is not the best option to solve this.
    Some people use the TT to practice the different conditions, specially for the races with dynamic weather. If TT uses Equal Mode, they would have to do this on Lobbies. But (1) some people don't know how to use lobbies, and (2) we don't have enough info to create a lobby with the exact same conditions as the TT/event.
    A better and simpler solution is to show the track conditions, wind, temp, track time, and everything that makes any difference. Just show this in the screen before you go to the track, and also in the leaderboard and replays.
    I don't know if PD will do this tho. It may scare the casuals because it's too much info to manage. People play GT cause it's just "sit and race", so managing the best session is a hassle. And I know this exists already, but since it's hidden, lots of people have no idea this exists.

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm that's a very interesting thought with the conditions. There's actually no fundamental way to practice them fully when thinking about it as TT has no fuel or tyre wear so the car behaves completely different. Would be good to be able to copy/paste settings into a lobby, similar to that track day thing they've got (Only did that on day 1 so I can't remember what it's called).
      Seeing the details of the session though would be a very good start.

For example on Session 3 & 4 you can see one is slower at first then faster after at the same time difference which shows a difference in power at least for me that's what I see.
      If any time is off by .001 that's due to the limit of recording not necessarily the game, I physically couldn't get them to be 20.817 for example if one is 20.816 as the next frame back is more than .001
