I bet not many wake up in a morning and have these lyrics running through their head in 2024, but I do sometimes. Unique talent. Glad I got to see them in their glory in the 70s. I still mention to folk when I hear Crowded House, 'I saw the Finn brothers when they were original'

One of my favorites, probably the first Enz song I loved. The harmonizing on this live version is so lovely. Neil so far out of the mix you can't even see him LOL!

Thanks for posting this. After seeing this on TV, I bought the album, saw the band at Southampton Uni in '78 - went back stage and got autographs! 😁😆

Just discovered this upload. Absolutely stunning. Been nuts about Enz since release of True Colours. A DID of mine for sure. I dunno what's in the water down there, but the Antipodes sure has stunning music coming out of there. Mutton Birds in particular who I first heard in 1996 blow my mind as well. Birds's Don McGlashan and the Finns among greatest songsmiths ever. Whenever I give a listen they inspire my own songwriting. Within a week or so I've a new little gem. 35 years of writing, 10 years of them home demo recording never got me anywhere, but God what a bliss to create things... Thanks Enz for keeping me sane in a world of especially nowadays, piss poor music and derivative dreck.

You will very probably like David Kilgour. Listen to 1992’s “Here come the cars”

I remember this series like it was yesterday - BBC2's 'Sight & Sound In Concert' ... watch the gig on (Mono) TV and listen to it at the same time in glorious 'new' Stereo on the Radio!! ... 1977's Mindblowing technology!!!
This band simply blew me away!! and Dizrythmia is now a very worn out vinyl! .. (and still on my itunes daily playlist!).
Another fantastic BBC2 S&SiC gig/band was PAL .. Paice, Ashton, Lord .. 'Malice in Wonderland'! ... Simply Brilliant. (Check it out!).

IKR … I’m a Kiwi, first saw Split Enz at a University gig in maybe 73 and became a life-long fan. Amazing talent. Tim is doing a “life & times” tour of AU/NZ atm and I saw him Thursday night (21/9). To my delight they played Charlie and he can still sing it.

When Paul McCartney met the band he complimented Tim on this song, which he had seen them perform on TV.

"God put a smile upon your face" Cold Play has very similar guitar riff sounds, no?

Personally i thought he butchered the version, stuffed around with the guitar intro and the vocals were a million miles from the studio (Dizrythmia) cut. Eddie saves it as usual with his impeccable keyboards.
