Today is finally available on the web site, the 25l is not available through. Anthony, how tall are you? Just to have an idea for me. I thinking in the 30l but I’m not sure if it will be too big for me.
IT'S THE ONE AND ONLY IAN MILLAR!!! I love your products especially how beautiful it looks. I personally don't like overcomplicated tactical like bags.
I decided with this video to dedicate part of the time interviewing Ian since I had a unique chance to sit down with him while he was visiting from overseas. In the rest of the video I covered my favourite features: the new size options, the new material, the slick design, and the capture clip integration, and then showing the interior layout. For a full technical breakdown and all the details I'd recommend the vids over on the official Shimoda TH-cam.
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
Awesome job Anthony!! Just received my 25L in black and can’t wait to load it up and GO!! May just get the 30L as well for overseas travel. Thanks Ian, you design great bags, and respond almost instantly to queries during the kickstarter process. Really appreciate it!!

I love how this bag has a place for the PD Clip but the PD bag does not. I'm rocking the smaller everyday pack, love it, but I'm still baffled that they overlooked capture clip integration. Even their field puch has that but not the actual camera bag.
I just checked and this bag is currently cheaper than the PD Everyday bag. I'm not sure how I feel about that, I honestly expected it to be double the price. Well I definitely can't afford another bag but at least it shows I'll have a good choices in ten years time 😅

Hi mate,I have a peak design 30l v1 bag where I pack fully up to 6-8kg daily usage. I found out the shoulder strap to bit quite hard and no cushion like this new bag had. I did have shoulder pain after days wear the PD bag. Does this bag feel better in term shoulder cushion, weight distribution etc? Would consider to get this to replace my PD 30L everyday backpack. 2nd, does the top pocket able to fit a peak design tech pouch(if you had 1)😂(feel like you would😅) Nice video btw man. ❤
It looks like Shimoda took the McKinnon every day bag and expanded on it to make it that much more functional. Definitely want to check it out! I've been using a Shimoda camera cube in a GoRuck backpack for a while and it works pretty well but this might just be my next bag.
@@t1merickson True, but the Nomatic McKinnon 35L is the only bag I have that can hold a super tele like the NIkkor 180-600 f/5.6-6.3, mounted on a body! That said, for a smaller kit when hiking, I'd love to test this new Shimoda 25L.
Why a Urban series video taking in country side mainly? I don‘t see any real Urban shooting scenario. In fact, I‘m disappointed about this so called Urban series. It is just a muted outlook of other series. Yes, there is the smallest size 20L. But the side access is nothing improved. It still has the curved shape opening that just slowing the access. 10+ inches internal dimension is then NOT fully utilised because the curve sharpe door. Some of the camera backpack in the market equipped with longer length (support 2 bodies with lens attached) & more partical side access. They deserve more to be label as Urban.
Great review, did you try stuffing a 16" Mac Book into the 20L - I know it says not compatible - just wondering if (at your own risk) you can make it work
This is one of the things I mentioned after testing it the last 2 months. It feels like it has that PD aesthetic, but with the rear access and a few more add-ons to make it that much more functional!

@@AnthonyGugliotta its funny because I have been thinking about getting a new bag with back access. I currently rocking the PD 20L gen 2.

Nice video, man! Ian seems to be a great dude. Already have an X50 and an X30 and now backed the UE30. I feel like this is the perfect addition, the missing part in my arsenal and I finally can get rid of my v1 PD. 👌
How tall are you? I've had a terrible time trying to find a good photography daypack. I'm 6'2" with broad shoulders and most bags are built for small frames and sit weirdly high on my back, distributing weight poorly.
@sjmheron, My brother is your height but backpacks don’t fit based on height and broad shoulders. I’m 5’8” and my torso is same length as his which is 21”. The 30l is 20.5”. I also struggle with brands like AERSF as they make 17”-19” packs and it fits on my back as if I was wearing a kids pack. Measure your torso and if it’s 19” or below, the 20l is good. Torso of 19”-20”, the 25l is good. And torso of 20” and above, the 30l is good. Other things to look for is comfort. This requires good shoulder straps, enough cushion and air vents in back panel, and load lifts so it’s not tilting you backwards with a heavy load. Shimoda nails this with all their backpacks.
@@nomad0714 thank you. I was measured at a store last week and my torso is 25" your brother must have extra long legs!). I think I'll keep looking as I'm not looking for a 30L pack for day hikes but I appreciate the advice.

No way. Take a look at Shimoda's previous bags and you see the lineage. There's no comparison. Ian has been designing bags longer than Peak Design has been a company, and I'm a fan of both.
I’m a big fan of Peak Design and have all their bags. I think Peak Design and Shimoda have very different concepts. Peak Design everyday backpacks don’t have the padding/protection for people like myself who babysit their gear. Their travel backpacks are well padded with their cubes, but are either too big or without side access, and they are not comfortable to carry. I ended up using only the everyday 30L when I don’t bring camera gear and Shimoda E35 V2 when I go out and shoot. This new Urban Explorer is gonna be perfect as an everyday pack with gear, I backed the 30L and I’m considering to order the 25L as well for different scenarios. It’s exciting to see more of these user inspired backpacks and will continue to support both brands if they come up with some cool new backpacks. I think PD is launching some new backpacks very soon.
What do you think of the new urban backpack? I think its pretty slick! 😝

Looks like they just stole the design from peak design.
Have tried both, the peak design feels a bit more bulky. Personally I don't like the access system in Peak Design which was the main reason I never used one as my main bag. I can see your point though!
$375 for this bag is a fucking joke... and thats for the smallest one. That kind of pricing is ridiculous.
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
