Hello there! Thank you for your comment☺️ Yup! The EUT X1 is really great for its price range. And you don’t have to worry to much with humidity. Peace!
Neither sound bad, just different. The fact that the enya sounds as good as it does for its price is amazing. Sure if you can afford it get the Kamaka.....but if you can't you can still make beautiful music with a low end instrument
This is such a great sound comparison video! First of all, your playing is BEAUTIFUL! I might use this video to learn Somewhere Over the Rainbow. 😊 Anyway, I tend to agree with you on the sounds. I was surprised by how bright that Pono is. Especially for a tenor. But both the Mango and the Koa had such note clarity which the HPL lacked. I really love your positivity and professionalism in your videos. Keep it up! I have a lot to catch up on but I’m happy to have found your channel. ❤️
Tom , thank you for leaving a comment, I really do appreciate your time. Yes, there’s an obvious sound difference between the 3 of them, that’s why I created this kind of video to share to the TH-cam community this thing. Again thank you so much! 🔈🎙🎶🤙🤙🤙 ✌🏻&❤️
My pick is the Kamaka by far. They all sound good. But the Kamaka lives and breathes. :-) The Pono sounds very bright to me, which some people might really enjoy! Thank you for this comparison. I recently got a Martin ukulele and learned the benefit of having a very good ukulele. I couldn't believe the difference in playability and sound between it and my other ukes. The Enya you have there sounds like a basic decent ukulele that can serve just fine. But the Kamaka is the living end. JMO! :-) I love all my ukuleles, including the cheaper ones. Sometimes you just want a work horse that you can bring anywhere and leave beside your bed or couch to play anytime. Those are the worry-free ukes that definitely have their place!
Thank you for your comment! & you're right, we need that "bring anywhere ukulele" &the Enya is perfect for that situation not unless it rains 😊. Martin are amazing piece of gear & I'm happy that you got one. In my side I got some Martin clones which was made by Kiwaya and it just amazes me everytime I play it, not just the sound but the craftsmanship. Again , thank you for your opinion & I will keep making videos like this because whenever I search for a certain ukuleles ,I always want to hear their sound against other ukuleles. Peace&love!
Right on I AM. When you were playing each one I was thinking how to describe the individual tones of each ukulele. You said it better than I could. I totally agree with your description of of their unique sounds. Enya is bassy, boomy, mellow and loud. The Pono is brighter, good word saying it has a soprano "bark". It really surprised me how intense the sound was compared to the Enya. Your Kamaka does have the lovely blend of both, yeah a nice balance of highs and lows. It really sounds beautiful. Could really hear the difference between them in this sound test when you played the different songs. This was the best sound comparison video I've heard. Your microphone is super clear. Appreciate you also mentioning that the strings were the same. Proves it's the tone woods, the HPL and build quality that really creates each unique sound. Have you seen the brand Bonanza Ukulele? The man who makes them is a wood worker, (Craftsman really) and he built one for his wife and now he creates amazing ukulele's for us all. He actually uses HPL counter top materials for some of them. They look cool, you can choose different patterns and colors. The uke I want to get, that he makes, is called a Slimline Oreo. One can choose any type of wood. He routers the top and back out of single pieces of wood and joins them in the middle with a lighter colored wood. Someone said it looks like an Oreo cookie and they went with that name. There are YT videos showing his creations. Thought you may like to know about them (if you don't already) because like you, they are unique and stylish. Plus he makes tall coffee tables with uke holders under the top. Hard to explain, best to check his website and see the possibilities. Happy weekend I AM, thanks again for the video.
Thank you so much for your comment & I do know the Bonanza ukuleles, I don’t have one yet, hehehe😊😉😊. If my memory is right , Barry from got a ukulele, cover that uke in one of his reviews and it got good reviews. He also mentioned the things you’ve mention above. I really enjoy your comment, you really do understand what you’re saying. Again, thank you for stopping by!✌🏻&❤️
Right on@@iamshake7778 you know about the Bonanza uke's. That's right, I forgot, Gotauke reviewed the Oreo. He reviews some awesome ukes. Don't have one...yet, hehehe. Happy night.
Interesting comparison here. I have a Enya HPL pineapple ukulele and mine sounds a lot like your tenor. It has a boomy one-dimensional sound, even with fluorocarbon strings which I thought would be brighter than the stock strings. The Enya is also surprisingly heavy for its size; perhaps the heavy duty construction is one reason for the limited dynamic range. I like the sound of your Pono and Kamaka much better.
Yup! You’re right , they are in the heavy side. 10 years ago I tried a Martin guitar with the HPL material and it’s also heavy, the same as the Soprano Martin ukulele (HPL) it has a bit weight on it compared to other ukuleles but it sounds good! By the way I also own the pineapple version of Enya. Actually I have a video somewhere in my channel which I recorded recently comparing the Enya pineapple, concert & this EUT X1 Tenor. Thank you again for your time I really appreciate it! ✌🏻&❤️
Wish you would have had an Enya solid Koa to test. I have the HPL and wood Enya. The wood has a different sound but the HPL is almost indestructible, as you stated, no special care needed. Thanks for the great video.
Great interesting and fair comparison of 1 low cost and 2 high cost ukes. Nice to hear them all and your comments without consideration of price. Almost like a blind test. I really like your videos. One of my problems is that I am too bothered by the rip-off of the uke's Enya name AND logo of Enya the performer to purchase any of their ukes. It oddly irks me. :)
Thank you for your time & your comment🤗🤗🤗. I know, the Enya symbol / logo is almost exactly the same as the Artist Enya’s logo, they just put a very slight twist in the letter “a” . Again, I really appreciate your time. I will make more sound comparison videos In the future🎙🔈🎶✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🤙🤙🤙. ✌🏻&❤️
Nice comparison video! I'm going to buy an Enya X1 soon. Of course the Kamaka sounds superior, but it definitely doesn't fit my budget. You play the uke beautifully, IAM! What's the tune you play at around 2:40 ?
Great video IAM. One thing you need to be careful about with HPL instruments is that HPL is brittle. It is the same material used in Formica counter tops so it is hard and tough when properly supported. It can also chip if abused enough. While is tougher then wood in certain ways it is also not very repairable and it is not nearly as strong and durable as the polycarbonate Outdoor Ukulele you did a video with. Do you still have the Outdoor Ukulele? If yes, a comparison between the polycarbonate Outdoor and the HPL Enya would be great. 😊 I liked your description of the sound. Daniel Ho did a great technical description of the frequencies different tone woods resonate at that is in line with what you observed. He said Koa primarily resonates in the mid range that humans hear most which produces that balanced sound you hear. Mango resonates in the highs, like you noticed, and in the lows even below what humans hear but can feel more then the mid range. I own a Romero Creations Spalted Mango Grand Tenor and can say from experience I believe Mango Tenors need a low G to really reach their full sound potential. This is because Mango resonates more on both ends and less in the middle so a high G setup only focuses on half of Mango's strength as a tone wood. I use a Fremont Soloist Flat wound Low G with D'Addario Tenor Flourocarbon strings and that combination really works great on my Mango Grand Tenor. With low G on a Mango Ukulele you feel it as much as hear it. Much more then other tone woods.
Thank you so much Daniel for your information. All I know is that they do resonate in different frequencies. I mostly play them all & then, if I decide to sing, I will play them first & then I will choose which Ukulele at that moment fits the song.Peace!
So would you buy the Romeo after owning it for a while? I have been considering this one. Is it your best-sounding uke? I have a dozen ukes and my favorite one is the Enya eut mad tenor. It outshines some of my more expensive ukes in both quality of build and sound.
@@zozoart Yes, The Romero Creations Mango Grand Tenor is one of my two main low G ukuleles. The Enya MAD Tenor seems nice. Mahogany is one of my favorite tone woods. My heavily customized Islander MST-4 is my favorite High G ukulele. I would definitely purchase a Romero Creations again. The Grand Tenors have a richness and fullness to them that regular sized Tenor bodies don't produce. Not necessarily better; rather different. Romero Creations ukuleles seem to be made with the idea of being good for playing classical music. To me personally the Romero Creations models I have played are at their best with a Low G.
I love your video!!! Yes!!! I love laminate ukes because you can just leave it on a stand and not worry about it...take it to the beach...whatever. Yes of course I love the sound of the Kamaka!!! But it does not sound 30x better than the Enya. And I would be so worried about it...in a case with humidifier etc. I like the Pono a lot...it's the middle road, I bet great to play too! I would buy the Pono!!! I play an Islander spalted maple tenor and I have a Cordoba solid spruce and Rosewood...I love it cuz it sounds like a piano!
Ukulele Momster thank you for your time and for your comment❤️ I really do appreciate it. It will really help a lot of people leaving a comment like yours. Peace&love ✌🏻&❤️
you should have did the sound comparison without showing the ukulele , then reveal it later. people tend to lean towards pono and kamaka because thet are the expensive one
Sounds Great, I want a Martin HPL Soprano I heard it's like Formica is that how the Enya HPL is? I think the Pono sounds light because it's missing it's wound C string.
Jody, its the same material as the Martin HPL. I held one once, 3 years ago the Soprano HPL by Martin. Even 10 years ago I was able to play the Martin Guitar made of HPL (same material as the Enya and the Martin uke) thanks for stopping by Jody! ✌🏻&❤️
As far as I know the Richlite (which is a fretboard material of Enya) is also made of kitchen counter top material. Gibson & Martin use Richlite in their fretboard on their affordable models, I mean some are still expensive but for them it’s affordable. They have to find alternative source because of the CITES , “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species “ which is forbidding the musical instrument makers avoid rosewood and some other woods in their list.✌🏻&❤️
Martin's OX series is also HPL, but more carefully constructed so the Martin's are noticeably lighter weight and have a more dynamic sound than the Enya.
Hi man, thank you so much for the comparison, I'm a beginner and was needing this. Have you tried the Enya EUC-MS in its concert size? How would you rate its sound?
Thank you for your kind comment. So far, as for ENYA’s line of Uke, I’ve only tried what I’ve showed and demoed in this video. I can’t answer how will the Enya EUC-MS sounds like but as for quality in their line of Instrument take this note “If they put attention to details to this entry level ukuleles, how much more for the ones that are priced a bit higher than this?” Another thing I can tell you is , if you buy online try to see their RETURN policy. Also try to remember that even the HIGH END ukulele instruments get some bad ones either . Just explore and have an adventure. Enjoy!
