    Thanks for making a good review. My experience with the same scope is similar. Your new lens may be better than my new lens, but mine is definitely better than the original. I'm hoping for some good weather to check it some more.

    Great Video!!! I bought a 48P about three months ago... At first i thought it was ok but the more I pushed it the more I came away disappointed with it. Star images were spiky and when in far out of focus there was a huge coma image. I pretty much gave up on it and started using my 6" short tube reflector to take it's place. I figured i would use it for terrestrial use during the daytime. Then i saw your video and decided to give SV Bony a jingle... they asked me to describe the trouble i was having and they agreed that the objective lens was faulty. They are sending me a replacement objective.... Looking forward to seeing what this scope can do with proper optics!!!! Thank you for posting your video!!!

    Nice. Been considering this optical tube. Might consider picking up an SvBony SV231 color correction filter. When used with the Sharp Cap Pro color correction feature, it eliminates purple fringing entirely.

    Forcing your customers to replace the objective lens on one of their flagship telescopes does not build my confidence in this brand. Why wasn’t this caught by quality control before it ever started shipping?

      It is a little disappointing, ive looked through one of these and it wasnt bad, though not excellent either... for 300 bucks it wasnt bad,
      ..but at least they are correcting the issue, also, I would consider this one of their lower end or intermediate scopes, I'd say their 120mm triplet is their flagship.

    • @dlrager
      @dlrager 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The 48P line is their low end, not the flagship. The SV550 is their flagship line. I've had the SV503 80ED and it was excellent for the price. Used it for the eclipse in April. Have the SV48P 90mm and not as good as the SV503, but for the price, I'm not complaining.

    • @mark2220
      @mark2220 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      First this is a low end scope, not even a higher tier from SVBony.. and two, you have to give it to them, they absolutely stand behind everything they sell and will make it right. I'll take that any day over some other budget companies..

  • @robertsonsid
    @robertsonsid 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    It would be neat to test the old lens. I had a 90mm objective that had poor images until I found out one of the components had been flipped by the previous owner. I had a 60mm lens that I had to rotate the components to improve the image. Pinched optics is often an issue as well that can be fixed by loosening the cell holder and tapping. Of course, in your case it sounds like SVBONY was aware of the issue.

    • @A0111.
      @A0111. 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Excellent video. I started to get this scope; instead I bought the MEEZAA 80ED. It has a near-perfect lens, the focuser is the same as the SvBony 48P f/5.5, and the cost was very reasonable. I may go back and buy this one later. I also have the SvBony SV48P 90mm f/5.5 that is very good. Excellent telescopes for not a lot of money!

      Fast achromats like this one are NOT good for the Moon because of significant chromatic aberrations. Look for f10 refractors like 102/1000mm, or 90/900mm as a cheaper alternative. You can still fit the whole Moon with APS-C camera and a 1000mm scope.

      @@LearnToStargaze Laws of nature: for achromats the shorter the f-ratio the more prominent chromatic aberrations are. As per the chromatic aberrations chart for achromats, for 102mm of aperture there are minimal or no chromatic aberrations at f=12, i.e. 1224mm of focal length - that's why people buy APOchromats if they need shorter focal length, but for the Moon, and to not break the bank, it's reasonable to go for 102/1000 or similar.

    For the price you can hardly complain, but getting such an astigmatic lens shows very poor quality control and this should have never been sent, or screwed on a tube. Additionally when you get a completely different lens something doesn't seem right: either they used the wrong lens, or changed the design. Either way: bad QC. Overall I'm pretty happy with SvBony with some products, and after your lens replacement I'd say the performance was on point for the price.
