I have to say, that I first gasped out loud when you indicated that you were painting the brick fireplace! Of course, I forgot that YOU were going to paint it--you have an "eye" for the esthetic, DIMENSION, etc. and what goes well together. I have seen MANY disasters of other people doing just that! It turned out BEAUTIFUL!! It is such a rich color. Your house is coming out just lovely. You have a plan and are working the plan. Yes, it takes LOTS of money and LOTS of time, but well worth it!! 👏🥰🤍

You can get a really fine sanding paper, like 300 grit and go by hand over the mantle. It should make it more matte, without removing the actual protection layers
