I don't know if anybody shares my mindset but I absolutely NEED to pick up 100% of all items in every playthrough (unless I'm on high NG+ runs), and the open world nature of the game will probably stress me into spending hours longer than I need to in each area running in circles until every inch is explored. The other things such as NPC questlines and if for example interacting with NPC A kills NPC B later down the line, that stuff is fun to learn or research in guides, but damn am I going to move through this game at a snails pace for my first couple of runs lol.
Yeah I do the exact same thing. Checking every corner in this game for items and secrets will be nuts. And I can't even map it manually like I did Dark Souls due to the sheer size!
@@pievancl5457 Lol yeah I got platinum on The Witcher 3. My problem with open world action games though is the content bloat and copy+paste activities, specifically the Ubisoft formula. Elden Ring's open world will likely not rely on such techniques as "climb tower to reveal area" or "clear camp to turn the area friendly" or copy+pasted side activities like for example in Ghost of Tsushima find the 30+ hot springs or do the 30+ climbing shrine puzzles. Once I've chased on fox to a den, doing it for the 50th time feels very mundane lol. That's the problem with open world and even in The Witcher 3 as much as I love the game I was feeling burned out by insisting on a 100% completion run. It's just a part of my brain I can't switch off that feels compelled to search every inch of a game.
I've watched all the new videos today talking about the game and this one is definitely my favorite (sorry vaati), the enthusiasm and the things you talk about make me feel like this really is going to be the best open world game ever made. So hyped

I know this from other outlets. The number of flasks are increased by a golden seed item found in the open world next to small golden trees. To increase the potency of your flasks, similar upgrade materials are found in abandoned churches throughout the open world.

Yes, you can. You can take them from looted weapons, apply them to other weapons, find them as "items" around the world and later "copy" them to apply the same Ash of War to multiple weapons. E.g.: Make every weapon in your inventory have a "life steal" skill attached to it.
Yeah, mage, sleep arrows, summons, and tons of other stuff. FromSoft games have a reputation, but the majority of gamers would be able to beat them with enough determination and experimentation. I honestly wouldn't worry too much. Just keep in mind that frequent deaths are part of the intended experience
I've learned positioning and knowledge is better than reflexes in all souls games. Hell sometimes having fast reflexes even hinders you as seen with newbies fighting nameless king in ds3

From what I’ve heard, it’s still difficult but much, MUCH more accessible considering you can walk away from most encounters and come back later. Even the first mandatory boss can be skipped and returned to. But if you went to all of the major bosses straight away it would be brutal.
It is more accessible in that you have more flexibility and tools at your disposal such as accessing co-op out of the gate, but it’s still going to require actually learning how to play it.

It is way more accessible than the Dark Souls series was. Pick a magic class with a bit of melee skills in the beginning, like the "Prisoner" or the "Confessor", and you will succeed at this game thanks to magic ranged attacks, sneaking past difficult enemies and killing even giants from horseback with hit and run tactics. :D

They went from Dark Souls, to bloodbourne, to Sekiro. Before that it was Kingsfield, Nioh, and Armored Core They are 100% done with DeS and DS completely games too so I wouldn't worry too much.
@pswizzy4u FS used to do other genres. They've found great success with the Souls style of games. This is the most diverse entry of the genre based on coverage, but still shares many of the same fundamentals as Demon Souls all those years ago. I did say I was wondering how long it will last in its freshness. That's not just for the consumer but also on them. They can creatively burnout and/or get to a point where it feels like just a horse of a different color. I wasn't speaking personally that I tire of this as it's something that do exceptionally well, but they've made 5 different series of Souls-like games with a lot of shared attributes. It's not a wild thought to wonder how long they can keep innovating before they feel like iterations.
"Gets more Bloodborne" is what I like to hear. I like the cathedral we got to see in one of the trailers, and it'd be cool to have some areas that give that Bloodborne feel. Well, Demon's Souls does that with Latria, I guess. I like the combo of smaller dungeons and then much larger ones. I plan to try to be methodical with my exploration. Not sure of my starting class, but I'm leaning toward samurai or warrior right now. FS did say that they changed the locations of certain bosses, spirit summons, NPCs, loot, etc, so those who only played the network test before playing the full game aren't really going to have that much help from their previous experiences. The dialogue felt a bit stilted sometimes, with your partner giving enthusiastic shouts, "ha ha", "wow", "cool", "dude", etc. Video feels like a stream of consciousness. You may consider learning how to skip fillers, like "like" (over and over), "huh", "uhm" etc. It gives your speech greater power and impact if you can eliminate them.

I feel like every one of these promo videos is just people gushing over 'this game has bonfires you can teleport between, just like the last four games' worded slightly differently
It's that feature that's different. It's that you can open the map and fast travel away from trouble if you're in way over your head and just want to get out of there. In the others you had to find a bonfire/lamp or use a consumable homeward bone/bold hunter's mark to get away from there. Here there is no consumable to worry about using up and there's no worry about making it to the next bonfire or backtracking to a previous one. That's the big difference.
@Chiyori Nakanishi No, but they're a consumable and depending on the item I tend to avoid using them too frequently. Items that let me travel without losing souls/echoes are items I try not to rely on. Elden Ring takes that worry away a bit.

Nice video, thank you for your insights. The dialogue felt a bit stilted sometimes, with your partner giving enthusiastic shouts, "ha ha", "wow", "cool", "dude", etc. Video feels like a stream of consciousness. You may consider learning how to skip fillers, like "like" (over and over), "huh", "uhm" etc. It gives your speech greater power and impact if you can eliminate them.
The guy on the right brings nothing to this conversation other than “cool” or “ooh” when the other guy on the left says something.

I feel like every one of these promo videos is just people gushing over 'this game has bonfires you can teleport between, just like the last four games' worded slightly differently
It's that feature that's different. It's that you can open the map and fast travel away from trouble if you're in way over your head and just want to get out of there. In the others you had to find a bonfire/lamp or use a consumable homeward bone/bold hunter's mark to get away from there. Here there is no consumable to worry about using up and there's no worry about making it to the next bonfire or backtracking to a previous one. That's the big difference.

@Chiyori Nakanishi No, but they're a consumable and depending on the item I tend to avoid using them too frequently. Items that let me travel without losing souls/echoes are items I try not to rely on. Elden Ring takes that worry away a bit.
