You did blow my mind... I've never been more convinced that you guys just make shit up to meet the quota for your channel. Only two of these have I ever heard of. Yes, some of the artists are not as well known or a little more obscure but... I've only ever heard people make 2 of the comparisons you make in this video. A few sound reasonable but most are just totally absurd and sound made up
Nope, but I have heard of some of these being confused by people. I even remember when I was introduced to America I was asked who was singing without being allowed to see the album. It sounded like Neil, but... not quite. So if you don't know the band or singer, you can be confused.
This list should be called Top 20 Songs People (That Don't Know Music) Think Are By Someone Else.
Especially if the only Bruce Springsteen song they can think of is “Born in the USA”, let alone, not know it’s a protest song 🤦🏼♂️

Badfinger was produced by George Harrison at Apple Records. That is why they sound like the Beatles.
Also Paul McCartney wrote their first single and were named after "Bad Finger Boogie" a working title for "With A Little Help From My Friends". Lol

Not necessary 'nothing'. If you hear a song for the first time or a song you didn't hear that much, I can imagine you can get confused by a different song/band that sound familiar.
It's not really hard with time and age. I admit that, while I grew up in the 90s, I did used to think Boyz 2 Men sang "I Swear" for the longest time. I also thought "Warrior" was a solo song for Smyth. It happens. Memory gets fuzzy after 30 lol.

I have had so many people actually argue with me about who sings it. Everyone thought it was Alanis back when it first came out.
Nobody mistakes Steelers Wheel for Bob Dylan because you can actually understand what Gerry Rafferty is singing.
I regret that I have but one like to give to this comment.
And enjoy the sound. Bob Dylan is a legend, but his voice is not his strongest weapon. Gerry Rafferty has a much nicer voice.
And then Gerry Rafferty did his own records, such as the smash "Baker Street." If anyone wants to know what a hook is in music, have them listen to the sax intro to that song.

They both have two distinctly different voices. The music is also different, very recognizable to each others sound.

I highly recommend for anyone who hasn't heard the whole song of "Walking in Memphis" by Marc Cohn to do so. It's a great song. Highy recommended as I said.

@@trekkiejunk ME TOO! I am surprised at how bad it bombed. Both are great, but Cher's has more pep making the chorus have like church revival get up and feel it feel. "The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss)" originally by Merry Clayton and made a hit by Betty Everett, is another example of Cher making an Iconic song have a different yet positive feel. Although, thanks to the movie "Mermaids" it was a success. Of course, unlike "Memphis", there was an almost 30 year difference in releases versus just 3.

Honestly, NOBODY who knew Buffet thought it was him. There’s absolutely nothing about this song that says it’s him.

TBF, I thought that it was a Lennon tune when I first heard it as a kid, because Gerry Rafferty sounds more like Lennon than Dylan. It wasn't until I saw Reservoir Dogs, and bought the amazing soundtrack, that I learned about Steelers Wheel. I'm glad I did because their discography is really good.

Yeah, Slade wasn't well known in the US until after Quiet Riot became popular. Run Runaway was the first time I heard of them. It blew my mind when I found out two of QR's biggest hits were Slade covers.

This one made no sense, but what really blew my mind…was watching a vocal analysis of Come On Eileen, and the analyst said “I’m picking up Cure vibes” about Kevin Rowland’s vocal. I never once made that connection, but she was right and now I can’t unhear it 🤯

You need to re-title your video: “Songs that people who don’t listen to music think are performed by other people”
that seems a big stretch, tho. Someone who listens to no music at all would not be able to mix up one artist with another. They would simply not have a clue who performs any given song.
I don't know if anyone remembers that one-hit wonder from the late 80s, Regina, with the song "Baby Love". I honestly thought that was Madonna at first.
That's because it was co-written by Steve Bray, who was Madonna's main collaborator in the mid-80s until he got pissed at how Shep Pettibone reworked "Express Yourself" and vowed never to work with her again.
"Come and Get It" by Badfinger, I believe sounds more like, and is confused more for a Beatles tune than "No Matter What."
And that was written by Paul McCartney, so I can see why some might be confused.
Come and get it was originally written by Paul McCartney during the Abbey Road sessions, and later gave it to Badfinger because they were signed to Apple at the time. Paul finally recorded the song in 2015 when the Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp &Joe Perry) asked him to act as guest vocalist on the song.

The song Black Betty goes back well over a hundred years ago. I think one of the earliest renditions was by folk singer Lead Belly.

The one thing that blows my mind about any of these songs, is "Father & Son" by Cat Stevens. At the time he wrote that, he was, at the very most, 22 years old.
I remember hearing an interview with Neil saying his own father called him up to congratulate him o his latest hit. Neil was confused as the album hadn't come out yet and inquired what the heck his Dad was talking about.
You could make a list of parody songs that were thought to be by Weird Al Yankovic, but are not.

Why would anyone think that? During Weird Al's main production period, I don't think anyone else was doing parodies. I have a couple of 45s, but I'm not sure they were done while Weird Al was doing his big records. I think they were probably just before him.

Back when I was doing downloads from Kazaa, pretty much anything humorous was attributed to Weird Al even when it was clearly a female singing.
“Dancin’ in the Moonlight” by King Harvest is commonly thought to be a Van Morrison song.

It's true, I know who sang "I Swear", it was John Michael Montgomery. Then that boyband covered it and he got forgotten which is a crying shame. His was beautiful and better.
I remember being so angry that a redneck country singer had the audacity to cover I Swear so soon. Whoops! Sorry JMM.
All 4 One released their version of “I Swear” first by a few weeks. John Michael Montgomery’s version went to the top on Country charts though. Crazy thing is All 4 One and John released a duet version of that song a few years ago.

I prefer John Michael Montgomery's version. I still have no idea why this was a thing. Remember Con Air had the song How Do I Live - sung by Leanne Rimes and Trisha Yearwood. As much as I liked LR, I liked Trisha's version better. To this day, that's the version that gives me goosebumps! 😊

Fun fact...in June of 95, they did I Can Love you like that...another song of jmms that he released in feb 95 .

Some of the disco singers sounded similar, but most other singers didn't, and neither did most of the bands. Meredith Brooks did sound like Alanis Morrisette, but without the fingernails on a chalkboard sound. No one sounds like Pat Benatar, and Quiet Riot doesn't sound like anyone other than Slade, who they covered on 2 of their 3 biggest hits. This reminds me of the guy on TH-cam who swore Creep by Stone Temple Pilots was Half The Man I Used To Be by Nirvana. I'm fairly sure someone else here posted it with that title, but saying it was Alice in Chains.

@@ErickC It very well could be. It would really help to be on the same drugs Scott Weiland was to figure it out. The first time I saw them was on TV, maybe on the David Letterman show, and I didn't know who they were but he acted like a monkey on crack. I didn't realize until later how accurate that description was. On the song Plush, he sounds a bit like the band Rare Earth did over 50 years ago, way before he was born.I don't think anyone ever got the 2 bands mixed up like a lot of them on this list.

Pretty good, as far as lists go. I would quibble with the Bobby McFerrin hit, tho, just because Bob was long gone by 1988 (when that song was released). While "The Kids Are Alright" has a vaguely Beatlesque feel, I have never heard anyone refer to it as an actual Beatles song.
Anyone who listens to multiple types of music knows who sang most of these songs. I never got confused

What I love about watchmojo is that I don't need to ring the of notifications as they upload multiple times everyday.

Paul McCartney wrote one of Badfinger's hits, 'Come And Get It'.
Badfinger deserves a biopic, because their incredibly sad story has every trope of the "rags to riches" rock band story you've seen before all wrapped up together.

There have been bands that people thought were the Beatles, but Bad Finger was not one of them. Listen to "New York Mining Disaster 1941 by the Bee Gees" and the song "Lies" by the Knickerbockers. As far as new songs mentioned since 2010, they all sound the same regardless because today there is no originality anymore. Many of the older songs you mention, back in the day when I was young, nobody confused them with anybody else. I know because I was there.

Fun fact: Quiet Riot lead vocalist Kevin Dubrow was dead set against recording "Cum On Feel the Noise" because he wanted the band to write all the songs on their album, and he wasn't a big fan the band Slade. They recorded it due to the label's insistence. The band had a plan to play badly, so the label wouldn't release the song. Problem was each member recorded their part expecting someone else to deliberately mess up their part, and nobody messed up.

😮 Thats Aerosmiths signature song. I remember seeing them in concert and they lowered Steven Tyler from the ceiling with a baby grand for the start of the song. It was awe inspiring and the greatest thing I’d ever seen at a live concert before.
There was a thread on the Electrical Audio forums called "best x song written by y" and I like to call it the best Aerosmith song written by Led Zeppelin (for the rubes out there, I fully understand the song wasn't *actually* written by Led Zeppelin, that's the joke and the point).
And, to be fair the only time Aerosmith is worth listening to is when they sound like a discount Led Zeppelin.

You forgot "Don't Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. It has been mistaken for an Elvis song. This may be partly due to song being written with Elvis in mind, though Elvis never actually covered it.
But no-one's ever heard of them. I mean, the band/singers here are well known and thousands of people mix them up not just a handful of hillbillies listening to a local band.
