How To: Eye-Swap Your American Girl Doll!!

- Hey guys! I do a lot of customization to my dolls on this channel and eye-swapping is definitely one of the basics so I thought I'd share how I do it! There are different techniques and little things that vary from person to person on how they prefer to eye-swap, these are just the steps I take :) Hope the vid was somewhat helpful to you all!

I’m currently doing my first eye swap and let me say, eye swapping is no joke! My hands are killing me from trying to get the eyes out, but as long as you keep trying you will get it eventually!

What if you don’t have a cutical pusher? What can you use?
tweezers can work in a pinch but be VERY careful and don't force anything, reheat the head before adjusting if you need to!! tweezers may scratch their eyes or eye paint

You make it look so easy. I’ve tried so many times and they just won’t pop out 😭
I watched another video and they said to let the head heat up for at least 5 minutes. The eyes came out and were put in a lot easier.

Thank you for the video. It did help me to get the eye back in. Sadly, I purchased a cuticle pusher that looks just like yours from Amazon and it scratched the eye and eyelid paint.
Thank you! Where does one buy replacement eyes? I have a 1958 Toodles I'd like to get new eyes for! I know this is ancient to you, but they are just like the vinyl dolls you are eye-swapping!
ebay has a great selection for all kinds of specific dolls! If you think you can use AG sized dolls, my favorites are from beautifullycustom.com :)

Is it worth painting the eye makeup before popping the new eyes back in? Will putting the eye back in after painting the eye make up (sealed of course) or would it just scratch the paint?

I have also been unable to remove the eyes. It is not as easy as this video makes it appear to be. Proceed with caution.
How do you do this with a Jess mold???
it's possible!! you just need to test it out a bit, find out when your jess mold gets the most squishy and you'll be able to do it!
You do the same process, but Jess mold is a bit harder than most molds, same for Addy mold.
The Jess most mold is the hardest mold to swap eyes.

how do you make this look so easy? I've tried endless times and it's been impossible to get close to pushing in a doll's new eyes :/
What size are the eyes Cm? Where can I get them
Do you or do you know anyone that puts the eyes in for a few? No matter how hard I try I can’t do it.
:( I'm so sorry! Yes I've done this several times, some tips would be to use boiling water, to check the squishiness every so often because they'll cool back down if you let the water sit for too long, and to make sure you have the strength to do it! I started when I was about 16 and could still only do 1-2 eyeswaps every few days because my arms or thumbs would get sore!

Dollofakind will do the eye swap for you for $10 if you buy the new eyes at their store. They have a really large selection of all kinds of pretty eyes. You also have to pay for shipping to Texas and back to your house. Just send the head to them, much cheaper than sending the whole body.

I put in my first pair of eyes. Unfortunately I have scratched one eye, oops and the eye lids. Is there at least a way to pain the eye lids. With having to buy all new eyes? I think I’m done for.
You could perhaps mix some acrylic paint until it perfectly matches the eyelid color. Unfortunately I don’t know about the actual eye itself but I wish you luck with that as well

No thanks lady I'm a massive coward 😊 when it comes to doing things like this. I've already messed up Molly once before and I'm not about to repeat history. I had to take her into the American girl doll store in NYC 🎉 where my sister works and she helped repair Molly for me on our visit. No need to prosway me lady I'll leave that eye swapping thing to the humans who know what they are doing. But nice video 📷 btw.
Sent my blaire for old ag eyes, they sent her back with nothing. So, I had to pay extra 20 dollars to buy eyes of ebay.
i dont think you can send your doll in to get old eyes because they dont make them anymore?
That’s not a service offered at the doll hospital. You should have asked them before sending your doll. They don’t do customizations.
