I am glad you’re all back in Siargao. Waking up in the morning surrounded by the beauty of nature like yours is priceless. The world is in chaos, but the simple things in life make it easier. Enjoy!

I'm sure corruption happened in all countries including your own countries and for you to be hateful and rude such an ignorant that kind of things happened all the time because of constant typhoon it can't be helped people need electricity every where not just one part of the Philippines government have their handful ignorant
Yep 3 🇨🇳 ships entered and left just as quickly as they came. There were 2 breaks in the line and probably will be weeks before they repair it. I live here also.
Yes. Chinese research ships were near siargao last week. Headlines from last week: 3 Chinese ships spotted east of Siargao By Emmanuel Tupas(The Philippine Star) - December 1, 2024 - 12:00am
Yeah, but you're in a better position now Jay, your solar power is a life saver, most hostels are running their generators and some dont have a single unit. Stay safe.
Am sorry about your continued power cut. It occurred to me that the authorities should be able to pinpoint the time of the cut to the passing of a cargo ship in the harbour. There was a news video the other day about Sweden and Denmark investigating a Chinese ship dragging an anchor to sabotage their cables. There was damage to the anchor so they knew which ship did it. Perhaps also in your case the crew felt an urgent need to have "revenge against society", which is increasing in their own country, i.e. driving cars into crowds of people, etc. Here in Australia recently a Chinese man threw a scalding cup of coffee over an infant, inflicting severe burns. Although his face was caught on camera, to my knowledge he has not been apprehended. Just sayin' !
High voltage cables can deteriorate and fail on their own, and if there's and extended length of damage it could take time a long time to source and splice in a replacement section. It appears that Siargao's 24/7 power cable was installed in 2019 so I wonder if before that on-island generation facilities were in used and could be brought back on line. Looks like the Island uses about 6 megawatts of power or about what a couple of large diesel locomotive sized generators could produce. It's not too difficult to connect generators to substations if there are any that could be shipped in. Smaller generators could be connected to parts of the grid and areas powered on intermittently. We used to do that in emergency situations in villages and Oil and Gas facilities in Alaska. I'm also surprised that given the amount of solar and wind energy, and high cost of electricity more people have not installed basic solar systems.
It’s the Philippines and there are many reasons good solutions aren’t used but I can’t say much about that as a Foreigner living here on the Island and in the Country.
@@worldlydestinations I am familiar with possible reasons you are limited in being able to criticize. Seems that everybody is blaming the Chinese ships, but why would they want to cut a cable to a small Philippine island? Has anybody considered the fact that sharks may have been biting at the cables, and damaged the insulation, allowing seawater into the cables and causing shorts inside the cable...sharks have been known to attack undersea cables because they can detect the electric fields from the cables and think it it food, as sharks use electric fields from fish to detect food .
I don't think they have sharks in the Philippines, except the whale shark in Oslob which is a tourist attraction there, they are harmless, people swim with them.
What can we say? Our government is so incompetent. Dont you know that our electric supply is govern by Chinese government? They own 60% of it, Operation and maintenance.
