Personally, Yamaha have the edge, great tone, nice attack n above all,it has all what you need for the sounds you were expecting. Listen with your ears not your eyes. I done the same with my 25year Pearl Blx,bought the Stage custom with the absolute lugs etc, same sizes on toms expect kick,17" depth, professional hardware, great build,100%birch.Love the change, enjoy. Thanks for the vids, keep them up.🙂🙂
Excellent add! The AHM kit is always excellent and will serve your needs! I also own a PHX kit, and what I've learned when owning such fine instruments is: don't bother trying to compare them. The PHX sound revealed itself to me about a couple of months after I bought the kit (a big risk for buyers remorse, to be sure) to be big, warm, full. The tom sound just leaps and fills your ears with wonderful sound. It's pretty impressive how it works. Having said that, the AHM is a solid buy and an excellent studio kit. Get a nice brass RC snare or matching AHM snare and you're set! Cheers!
Those TAMAs have a bass drum that makes them stand out. No question. I love both kids but if I had to choose I would go with the Yamaha. It is a total package. Both excellent kits
Thank you for this demonstration. A good video, because you focus to show the sound of the Toms and the Bass Drum in different ways. In a lot of other videos you can see how good the drummer is, but you cant hear the drums.
I've played both kits and i also think the Yamaha is giving you more options compared to the Tama. I also love the fact that they are super dynamic and react quiet awesome to different head choices.
I would have kept the Starclassic Bubinga. Absolutely. This Yamaha is a great, versatile kit; it has nice, melodic clear sound, loved by the microphones and your ears as well. Will speaks well with double ply heads, or single ply heads, works great in studio with any style of music, in any situation. Obviously it would makes your coffee too, if you want.. But.. The Tama has an unforgettable, really special, own caracteristic sound, which is easily recognizeable in any live situation, or recordings, behind all the instruments. At last, but not least: bubinga. Never will be used in a drum factory anymore. You have sold a 4 piece, Starclassic Bubinga from a discontinued line, with special wood, special finish, and special sound, with better sizes. And with great memories. Cannot understand; this Yamaha was also an expensive kit, so I don't think that you are in winning situation about the money. Objectively; the Starclassic is not just a professional kit: it can be the sound of your own. I think, in every situation, your musical instrument is a projection of your mind, or feelings you want to make visible. The instrument is not a cool thing on the stage, this is a part of your personality. This Yamaha kit is just a professional made maple workhorse kit, one of a million in 2021, for any day of the week. Fantastic, but nothing special. IMO.
We agree, the instrument is a projection of your mind and feelings, a big reason behind the change to the Yamaha 🙂 it's all about finding the instrument that best projects the ideas in your head 🧠
@@drumdog Oh. Well, if that's the case, the best decision was to replace it. 🙂 Anyway, whatever the set, I love your videos, thank you for all the work, just keep it up guys! 🤟
Yamaha is a fine kit.. No doubt Sounds great…. The Tama Bubinga in quilted mocha burst was stunning and maybe the most beautiful finish ever offered by Tama.
Hey guys, I agree with every word you say. The new kit sounds awesome and is super versatile. Very delicate drumming as well. But why are you dampening this beautiful snare to death? The toms are singing and the snare only sounds like ˋtok tok´.
We've enjoyed drier snare sounds in recent times for the ghost note articulation it brings. You're right though, maybe it should be let loose once in a while 😅🤔
I’m seriously thinking of going for a 24, 13, 16 set, so I wanted to ask you how you felt about your change from the Tama to the YMH now you’ve had it a while?
I'm still really happy with the change, the AHM doesn't have anywhere near as much low end presence as the Tama, but it's a far better all rounder. Much more versatile! Best of luck with your hunt 🙂 -Nick
@@drumdog Hi Nick, that’s very reassuring, because it’s a fair investment. I have even looked hard at the PHX but I just cannot see that it’s any better for someone like myself who wants a great enjoyable quality drum kit that’ll do everything, The PHX just looks like a project for Yamaha to see how extreme they can take drum building, but to my ears I can’t say I prefer them to the AHM kit
what does "clean" mean? I have no tuning issues, though I have heard videos where the 12 has some funky high overtones, but I suspect that can be tuned out.
I agree. I like Yamaha. Very clean and dynamic. But Tama SC for me or Renown if you want a great maple kit. To each his own, however, and it is a dope kit.
Beautiful drum set, amongst the best ever Madeline, without a doubt.

I am a Tama fan, but the new Yamaha kit sounds awesome, congrats with the new kit!
We're still Tama fans too! Drum love all round 🤗
Nice bronze snare :) I used to have a Tama Starclassic Brass snare and sold it.... still asking myself why....

Also helps with the right choice of heads, mics n tuning, that's key factor to it also😊
I'm thinking of grabbing one these in a 22-10-12-16. Appreciate the review!
Let us know how that 22" kick is!

Both great kits. I preferred the Yamaha toms and the Tama kick and snare.
Sounds great and nice playing!
People who have bought this drum tell me that it is the best drum at the planet for the money, at the moment
Definitely a great move to the Yamaha!
Thanks Christopher 🙌 we love the new kit

Just picked up a similar set of Yamaha AHM. The toms and bass drum sound great. Need to get the matching snare.

I can definitely here how this would be more versatile
A really big part of the decision to change 🙂
I love bass mounted Tom's. Cymbal stands are for cymbals.
Are these G1 or G2 coated Evans heads? Thanks! I have the same drums and want to get this tone!
G2 Coated batter heads with G1 clear reso 👌
@@drumdog Thanks!🙂
Sounds good even on my phone speakers

Hello,
What finish is that?
Vintage natural
What batter heads are on your toms please? Hi or G2?
Coated G2's 🥁
@@drumdog thank you, I ask as they sound so good
Thanks! 😊
@@drumdog you got a great channel here, and it was a brave move from the Tama to the Yamaha but I believe that it’s a step up
my hybrids are IMPOSSIBLE to tune up high and clean between lugs- anyone have that problem?

We'd definitely jump at the opportunity for a matching 22" if the opportunity arose! 🤔 Eyes peeled 👀
so.. evans hd dry + two added moongels. ok
I know, not enough moongel 🙄
Yes new kit sounds good but I must say that is the dullest ride cymbal I've ever heard?
You're breaking our heart Neil 😭😂
That Yamaha sounds fantastic, even though you went for the most conservative-looking stain. (Did pink champagne sparkle frighten you?)
I'm probably in the minority, but I would've kept the Starclassic.

Anything Tama is better then anything Yamaha anyways
@@erictorres4889 Every time I think of trying a different brand, I stop myself.

Tama hardware is crap but I agree that their kits sound nice! However, I don’t necessarily feel that Tama is ‘Worlds’ above Yamaha!
IMO, Yamaha drums are superior to Tama - better hardware & better sounding.
Should of kept the bubinga, your yamaha sounds like a gig maker kit.
You're right, sounds like it's making me tonnes of gigs 🤑🤑🤑
