Destiny 2: Beyond Light OST - Athanasia + Security Breach (Soundtrack Versions)

- This is just a mashup of tracks 31 and 32, Athanasia and Security Breach respectively, from the Destiny 2: Beyond Light official soundtrack. The soundtrack was composed by Michael Salvatori, Skye Lewin, Josh Mosser, Michael Sechrist, and Rotem Moav.
These two tracks are clearly part of the same group, one being the ambience and the other being the action. You might also say that's obvious because they're adjacent to each other in the order of the tracks, but Frigid Tomb and Lament have the same connection despite being about 30 tracks apart.
Anyway, this is just a very simple thing but I put this together because there's a very clear point where Athanasia transitions smoothly into Security Breach, in a way that's only done justice with a mashup like this and not, say, setting the next track to autoplay. It sounded so good I felt I just had to put it up here. I plan to do the same thing with Frigid Tomb and Lament, but of their in-game versions and not the ones in the official soundtrack.

While it is stupid and sad that Salvatori and Sechrist (or just anyone at Bungie) got laid off, I want to inform you that Salvatori didn't make either of these tracks. Skye Lewin did.

I wasn't sure I'd post this initially, it seemed like such a simple thing to put together, but I agree it is really hard to listen to these two apart now.

The transition actually happens in game too! If you start security breach while Athanasia is still playing then it will automatically transition perfectly!

Athanasia: The refusal to die; immortality. From the Greek 'a' (opposite, negation, nulling i.e. apathetic, abnormal) + 'thanas' (from Thanatos, the god and personification of death i.e. thanatophobia) + -ia (a suffix used to create a concept or object i.e. hysteria, anathesia)

@@ploopy45 that’s likely yes! In the comics Thanos did his whole ‘kill half the universe’ thing to impress Death, because he was in love with her. So he is linked to the concept of death quite closely

Athanasia and Security Breach have no right to have such a smooth transition
They are basically the same song, just one is chill and the other is action.
i still remember the collective sound of 5 people going "NO!" on day 1 when we finally figured out how to get into the dps phase. reminds me that i single handedly wiped my entire raid team by shooting the wrong fuse.

This ost really embodies the panic that is the first couple times your team does Security. Like. Your op knows he can burn to death at the slightest mistake. Scanner has to count and read while acoiding enemies ans even ad clear knows they have to do their job or its a wipe. When your in the game space STORY wise. You can imagine how the guardians feel with that kind of pressure. And this soundtrack EMBODIES that pressure.

Even tho it's kinda simple, being operator for security is one of my favorite roles in the raid. The music makes it so much better

4:56 when damage phase starts is the best part. And the Xenophage shots sync up with the music

I think Athanasia is a better ambient track, but Deep Stone Lullaby is fucking awesome at the point you hear it in-game.
@@flannagan3799 that's fair. I guess I prefer ambient music in games. I like the music to complement the gameplay. I don't like it being the focus. Don't get me wrong, DSL is still great and I agree with you. I think I just have a different need for music in games.

Imagine if the Guardians had found the Deep Stone Crypt first, and defeated Atraks in her physical form before she could become an Exo.
She would've felt the might of a thousand thunderbolts.
And died instantly. And then they would've found Taniks' body and taken him apart to make a new gun.
It would have been a much easier day one
We wouldn't have the Mask of Bakris. That exotic is crafted from Atraks' skull, after she was instructed to rip the face off of her corpse as an Exo.

@@wood5596 I believe Bakris was the assistant of Praksis, or at the very least helping with the House Salvation exo project. He's the one who guides Atraks through their experience becoming Atraks-1, instructing them to maim their regular Eliksni corpse to break that mental connection to their past life. He takes the shattered skull and makes it into a mask. It's a messed up lore tab, I highly recommend you read it.
This music is perfect. The Athanasia part with its starry solo tones captures the icy solitude of Europa while Sparrowing across the terrain, and the security part at the end really emphasizes the whirring alarms of the fuse doors opening up.
The first 1 min is just so beautiful
Hearing the DPS theme for crypt security day 1, despite it being the 1st encounter, was just a special moment that solidified my thoughts about beyond light.
"This here? This is most definitely it, chief."
And then the music after defeating Atraks-1. I wish I could have gotten there on day 1 so it would feel more nostalgic than it already does, but I can imagine just how much relief you'd feel hearing Deep Stone Lullaby.

4:55 probably the most intense and heart pounding DPS phase ever, i just love that i can imagine those fuses opening at this part and bubble/well drops when the beat drops.

this is the best way to start a raid, you just got out of the frozen tundra of europa chasing the last of the house salvation council. you enter the crypt. not realizing what was about to take place would be an absolutely legendary battle between 2 extremely powerful fallen and clovis brays AI. the stage is set for europas destruction. now you must break through the crypt security.

There's something chilly about this encounter compared to other raid 1st encounters. Most other raids give you a glimpse of the enemy or whatever threat opposes you. Here, you just simply walk right into it (or drive). An empty facility, devoted of all life at the moment.

@@Fusi453 the synth/horn melody you hear throughout these tracks uses the same scale degrees as Savathun’s song (1, 2, b3, & 4) but in a different order and as a different rhythm. I don’t think there was a direct intent to reference it here, as that kind of thing is really common. A lot of melodies can be rearranged in one or two steps to become others. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a direct effort to insert Savathun’s song throughout the Beyond Light soundtrack, as there’s a couple more obvious and deliberate instances as well as some subtle ones, like the end of “Replicate” where the bassline is the first 4 notes of SS in the proper order
most of it was just an arrangement of a D2 vanilla theme (Be Brave, The Wilds).

Hey all. Most of my channel is deleted at this point, as Bungie's issuing copyright strikes on other Destiny music uploads and channels, and I want to pre-empt it. I'm leaving this video up for now for awareness, and this comment as a heads up. If Bungie responds favorably to the matter then I won't have to take this down, but based on the last time they commented I'm not super hopeful.
I'm really sad this is happening, hopefully it all gets figured out eventually but who knows.

This keeps playing on Witch queen and lightfall when in orbit, so I cant just start playing anything until it stops.
Took me a while to find this score, I kept looking for "orbit song". Only found it cause youtube recomended me.
If I’m not mistaken it also plays during one of the beginning Parts for Deep Stone Crypt. Right past the intro, I was mesmerized by it when it first came up. That and Deep Stone Lullaby playing on the spacewalk part of the raid is beautiful.
I may not play destiny much anymore, but one thing is certain, and that is my love of the soundtracks.

I'll definitely miss beyond light era. It got one of my best friends playing destiny again, the first clears of deep stone were some of best raid memories I've had in destiny.
Same. Using stasis for the first time brought such a big smile on my face that I never had before placing destiny or even after. The campaign wasn’t that best but obtaining stasis was so awesome.

While i might absolutely hate the state the game is right now, the OST still has that Destiny magic and feeling to it.
I tend to spend more time working with the music files than I do playing the game a lot of the time. I'm taking a break from it until the next season.
