  • Geoff shook my CORE with this one! Definitely one of my favorites, a standout up there with Sixteen Tons and Blackbird. Geoff always comes to impress, but this one is really up there with some of the greats. I had a ton of fun listening and reacting to it, and I hope you did to!
    By the way, I see and hear all your requests for Mortimiss to return for another reaction, or even a duo reaction. She prefers to only do it with songs she personally enjoys, whereas I can enjoy a cover of a song I've never heard before. Rest assured, the next time someone drops a cover of a song she already likes, we'll get her back for you guys :)

    Where he "growled" is common with us bass singers doing a scoop down in the upper bass/lower baritone register. It's more of a creak to try to stay out of a lower note than he wants. Basically, it is sort of a growl; it's activating the false vocal cords for a fraction of a second.

    • @jarimyaraymond6054
      @jarimyaraymond6054 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was coming to comment that it’s more so slight vocal fry rather than growl, a lot of singers do the same, regardless of where their register is. Ed Sheeran is a prime example of this

    His use of regular items in this song like in 16 tons adds so much. I've been waiting for this reaction. Your details are so good and I always learn something. It starts slow for me but becomes epic quickly

    "♫ Mothers tell you're children, yeah, not to do what I've do-o-nnnnne...In the house of the Rising Sunnnnn ♫
    Geoff did a subharmonic Eb1 on the "closed n" of "done' and G#1 chest voice on the "sun". Apparently much harder to do because it's a low note on a closed consonant.
    (according to vocal coaches and singers reacting to this song)

    • @TanisAnnicchiarico
      @TanisAnnicchiarico 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes and no. Typically it's harder on a closed consonant, but whenever I attempt to either go into a deeper vibratory growl for either beatboxing or singing, "n" is one of the easiest consonants to start that growl/vibration pattern on. Try closing your mouth (or even keeping it open, works either way) and just go "Nnnnnnnnnnnn" in the same way that you'd go "Mmmm" over something being good. If you know how to do the growl, you'll notice it's much easier to slip into it, but even people who can't/don't know how to do it can still sorta feel that rumble or vibration coming up. Also worth noting, this is my personal experience and I've connected with a few other bassblasters (our in-server name for the bassier people) who felt the same, but I of course can't speak for the entirety of every bass vocalist/beatboxer in the world, you know?
      So yes, closed consonants are usually more difficult, but certain ones like N, D, R, and W (potentially more, those are just my usual warm-ups for when I know I'm gonna be getting bassy). I hope this doesn't come off as a lecture or like I'm ridiculing you at all, I just don't get to talk about things like this often and I like teaching ^-^

    • @embran8486
      @embran8486 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TanisAnnicchiarico I don't mind at all and not once did i felt ridiculed. It was very informative and from it I now know this particular consonant likely isn't that hard for Geoff, in particular as it are "mere" warmups O_O

    • @dekmar7954
      @dekmar7954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep! As a low bass (solid D2), I can confirm that low notes are much easier with small vowels/spaces than with large ones. Ah, uh, oh are much harder to sing low than ee, oo, n, m. High notes are the opposite, easier with big vowels. Oh high notes, you sometimes see people modify small vowels to make them bigger (occasionally change the vowel entirely), and I sometimes modify big vowels on low notes to be smaller to get more resonance.

    I have enjoyed a couple of reactions with voice coaches... Where basically they just sit and point out the points younger cover artists should just learn from him. This cover is based more on the older versions of this song, rather than the faster version preformed by the Animals, and as usual by the time Geoff has finished it is a completely different song.

    While I LOVE Geoff Castellucci so much, this (imo) is not his best work. You touched on a lot of what I noticed as well. However, he seems to singing more from his mask a lot in this one & does so many bass drops it comes across as gimmicky to me. (Again, that is just my opinion). I DO like how he DOES showcase his range on this one, but I feel that Oogie Boogie & If I Were A Rich Man/Girl shows better his talent. I noticed that on this one (as opposed to some of his other work) he holds the bass on the consonants (like nnnnn in "done" rather than the vowels). Maybe that's why I feel it's too much into his mask instead of chest notes. However, with all of that being said, STILL gotta love Geoff. He's the man!
    Mr. M I think you ought to react to Peter Barber & Bobby Bass Waters doing the cover of Avi's The Summit. Peter is a professional opera singer (but you'd never know it by the way he does some covers...doesn't come across that way) & both Peter & Bobby are classically trained basses. Another that I recommend is The Bass Gang doing a cover of Billy Eilish's Bury a Friend. (Might want to do that one closer to Halloween as it's kinda creepy in the way it's filmed for the vid. Bobby's sister is a film major & did an awesome job filming it).

      I am aware of this being a problem on my previous videos, yes. But I fixed it before this recording, and you are the first person to say it on this video.
