Cut the noisy intro. It made me jump. Also why hasn't mankind devised another way around all this racket. Flashing lights?

Im sorry but if youre vehicle is reversing people need to be aware of it and loud noises and lights are the only viable way to get peoples attention

I don't need to know when someone is going into reverse two miles away. It is in many cases repetitive noise pollution (in a builders yard for example) and should be banned. Flashing lights of a specific colour are perhaps the answer and these should only operate when sensors detect movement.

@@MrBubba59 Lights wont attract someones attention of they arent looking at the vehicle. The point is for them to be loud enough to attract the attention of someone who might be directly behind the vehicle but doesnt know its there

Well let's have warnings then but have them sensor operated. i.e only operate when bodies are detected, rather than the mindless incessant bleeping noise for no reason at all. That should cut down the pollution to an absolute minimum and perhaps people would take more notice of them.

@@MrBubba59 White noise alarms are designed to be directional and more audible. They cover a wider frequency which allows them to be played at a lower volume while still being detectable by people who are hard of hearing or are wearing ear protection. It is the optimal way to both ensure those behind a truck can hear it and minimize disruption to the surrounding area. Lights alone make it impossible for blind people to be warned. You need both.
A sensor is an overly expensive and complicated solution. If you're aiming your sensor at a wide enough area to ensure that anyone who needs to be warned will be warned, you're almost certainly going to trip it anyway because any time you are reversing a truck, you're doing so to move it in or out of a confined space. What's the point of investing money in a sensor that either fails or is constantly being tripped?
