He said in another video that music was not really present in his house except at Christmas (and even then, it was instrumental). His parents rarely listened to the radio or records, so he grew up without being exposed to a lot of classic or contemporary music, so it wasn't something he was interested in until now.

I have not heard this song in FOREVER!!! I remember when it came out. Kool and the Gang was one of my favorite groups in the early 80's!
My favorites are " Misled" and
"Tonight" and later in the 80's "Stone Love"
They had TONS of great songs but I wore my cassettes out playing "Misled" and "Tonight" over and over again!
    WOW. "Get Down On It"!!!
This song came out in 81 or 82. I was 10 or 11. Much too young for parties. But I danced and sang all over the house!!😂

This right here is FUNK my friend! This goes back to the 60's...grew out of RnB and blues musicians probably out of boogie blues jams and accentuating the drums and brass... all the instruments becoming percussion instruments. The earliest examples being James Brown and the JB's, Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone,Kool and the Gang, the Ohio Players and MANY more...Check out the stuff from late 60's and then into the 70's first..the music evolved in the 80's...I could go on and on! Lol Enjoy your music Journey!

This band was in the funk genre along with bands of rather late seventies and eighties like Cameo, Confunksun, The Commodores, LTD! These bands had percussion, horns, guitars, piano, etc! They were so much more than disco, they were funk! ❤️❤️

One of my favorite R&B groups, including The Commodores, The Miracles, & Boys to Men! I was raised in house that loved music. My dad had a huge collection of albums from Classical, Country, R&B, Motown, Disco, even Dean Martin. I love music from the 50's to now and I am 48. I was exposed to all music and very much appreciate my dad for letting me listen and jam with him. On a personal level I am a metal and rock kind of old lady, but I do respect and love most music.

I come from a family who loves music and dancing. This song was always played at parties, Kool and the Gang and Earth Wind & Fire were always played. We always did the bus stop or the electric slide. I learned to slow dance at a party to "Careless Whisper". When I was 9/10 yrs old going to skating parties if "Humpty Dance" came on you had to be out on the floor. I remember my senior year everyone on the dance floor jumping and shouting "Please Stand UP!" for "The Real Slim Shady". My bestie and I always hit the dance floor if we hear "Groove is in the Heart".

Kool & the Gang been around since the mid 1960s. They had some hits in the 70s, but they really exploded in popularity from 1979 to 1987.

Showing my age but this was a huge hit disco skating. I've always been someone that would dance alone and not care. This is one of those songs.

This was the starter song when I was a young teen at parties. 💕 we were called wallflowers when you go to a party and didn’t dance. So this was the song to move the crowd.

One that gets me into a dancing mood is the 'Double Dutch Bus', by Frankie Smith. You can groove to that one! Besides this one, of course! There are so many from that era.
