I have not heard this song in FOREVER!!! I remember when it came out. Kool and the Gang was one of my favorite groups in the early 80's! My favorites are " Misled" and "Tonight" and later in the 80's "Stone Love" They had TONS of great songs but I wore my cassettes out playing "Misled" and "Tonight" over and over again! WOW. "Get Down On It"!!! This song came out in 81 or 82. I was 10 or 11. Much too young for parties. But I danced and sang all over the house!!😂
heck yeah, Cameo is in the top 5 for sure. So many hits... "I just want to be", "Keep It Hot", "your loves takes me out", "single life", "flirt"... so many incredible songs
This right here is FUNK my friend! This goes back to the 60's...grew out of RnB and blues musicians probably out of boogie blues jams and accentuating the drums and brass... all the instruments becoming percussion instruments. The earliest examples being James Brown and the JB's, Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone,Kool and the Gang, the Ohio Players and MANY more...Check out the stuff from late 60's and then into the 70's first..the music evolved in the 80's...I could go on and on! Lol Enjoy your music Journey!
This was the later disco era/early funk. One of the most spectacular things about groups of this era is that they sounded like this live! No remixing, no sampling, no tech like we have now...just pure talent!
In the 70's and early 80's this type of music was called Disco. We loved it and still do. This lead the way to great dance music. Glad you enjoyed this. I personally love Kool and the Gang. Try listening to K. C. and the Sunshine Band.
I’m a 50 year young white girl. Kool and the gang were popular when I was in grade school in the 70’s and early to mid 80’s. Music is the universal language and has no color barriers. 🤘🏻👌🏽👍🏽. I love watching your reactions to these old school music genres. ❤️
Celebrate! By Kool and the Gang is one most everyone would respond to and dance at a club or party if played. Kool and the Gang is definitely R&B/Funk!
I was a teenager in the 70s...and this was one of the best! Kool and the Gang, Earth Wind and Fire ...they were the songs played at every gathering and made you smile and dance...even if you weren't a dancer.
I love, love, love Kool in the Gang from the late 70s and eighties! JT Taylor, the lead singer, was so cool and cute!. This band was in the funk genre along with bands of rather late seventies and eighties like Cameo, Confunksun, The Commodores, LTD! These bands had percussion, horns, guitars, piano, etc! They were so much more than disco, they were funk! ❤️❤️
One of my favorite R&B groups, including The Commodores, The Miracles, & Boys to Men! I was raised in house that loved music.
