That's just world class top notch and everything. When you started playing the song it hit me like a lightning, that's just so on point. And for me it's great to now be able to play a song I'd have never ever figured out myself.

Man you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to learn that harmonics riff, but I was never able to get the ones on the 3rd and 4th fret to ring out properly. Your suggestion of picking closer to the bridge is something I needed to hear a few years ago. Awesome lesson! Thank you!

You had to dig out your copy of Spiderland? Mine's been on high rotation since the late 90s! I guess that's why I just couldn't face listening to "Nosferatu Man" obsessively for two days to learn it, cos I was scared I'd finally OD on it. Thanks so much for doing the hard work for me. Favourite song on probably one of my top three albums of all time. You rock

In fact I mentioned Swans for the umpteenth time to my 18-year-old daughter just thirty minutes ago, relating how for me nothing can compare to one of their shows that is so utterly overwhelming that my usual anxiety, etc. no longer has room to exist. There is one other band in that category: Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Are you familiar? They were the last show I saw pre-pandemic and the first one for which I've bought tickets post-pandemic.

I am currently bored and delving into a TH-cam phenomenon called Chris Chan. (Has nothing to do with music.) I may check back in later and share my personal Swans/Jarboe story with you. You could have your daughter check out “Deep Cuts” channel’s commentary on “Swans”. It’s effing brilliant. It’s so detailed and perfect, that Swans uploaded it to either their website or FB page, can’t remember which. Cheers!
@@cskueny Oh, I forgot to answer you about GYBE! I love them. So jealous that you are seeing them already now twice. Do you live in Canada? The last band I saw pre pandemic was Sebadoh. I actually found out about Slint through the bassist for Sebadoh, the infamous Lou Barlow. Interesting coincidence in this particular convo with you. I might put Sun)))) into this category with Swans and GYBE! as far as a bands ability to completely overwhelm you with their sound although they are completely different. I’m too scared to go to one of their shows. 🤪
@@scherryvalentine9673 No, I live near San Francisco, USA. I was unaware of GY!BE until browsing the Castro Theater's movie calendar late 2019, and saw a live performance listed. The description sounded great and I was surprised because I'd had no idea this theater hosted live events. I went and was completely blown away, instantly one of my favorite shows ever. I was fantasizing about the end of pandemic when I hoped they might tour again, and indeed they recently announced two shows in my area next March. I will see them two nights in a row. Where are you? They will be touring in the spring. And I know nothing of Sebadoh, and have heard of Sun)))) but don't know their stuff. And finally, my daughter is absolutely not into this stuff!

man, as a young high schooler 10 years ago, I would have really loved to see this. Even at that time, there wasn't a ton of info on Slint on the internet, and the documentary wasn't even being made yet I don't think. Luckily got to see them perform Spiderland in its entirety in Chicago when they a reunion in 2015(?). Incredible, unforgettable experience. I know how to play many of these songs, but just watching this makes me feel so nostalgic. Slint was 100% my deconstructor in guitar based music. It took every thing I knew apart. I love it for that.

Love this dude. I don't like electric guitar myself, and this kind of music is anathema to me, but! Each to their own, and I really love the acoustic lessons he does. Happy Halloween to all you 'death metal/whatever the fuck this awful shit is' fans!
The album itself is beautifully varied in terms of style and sonics. Heaps more gentle stuff to be found, but certainly moments of really brittle distortion and fuzz like what this track dabbles in

Hey I was wondering if you could figure out how to play “Dazzle” by Siouxsie And The Banshees?
I am fairly certain that Nirvana was still a touring band when these kids were grinding out music in Louisville Ky. At the time, I was listening to Nirvana and had no idea music like this existed until about 5 years later... and still, I never got into SLint, but many friends did. I think I heard a few seconds and thought it was too "trebly". I didn't like the sound. I knew it was quality stuff, it's that I just didn't like that sound. Never the less all kinds of bands came out of there like June of 44, Shipping News and all these Touch and Go Recordings'ish bands. I listened to David Pajo's band Aerial M (which became Papa M) and you could hear the SLint sound from him. I saw them live in the midwest. Pajo's band was very minimal.

Hello mate! I try to play the harmonics but they do not sound clear as the song does. I mean if i play harmonics in the 5th, 7th or even 12th fret then it sound clear, but if i play harmonics in another fret it doesn't sound clearly. Do you have any other tips to improve it? Thank you for your help
Probably already too late, but you pick right next to whatever pickup your using and it'll sound super clear! Example: the bridge pickup. Also have to be very precise with with decimal harmonics
