I've purchased "The Analects" and "Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung" (yes I'm from a communist party how did you find out?). Do you think it's a good start? It's quite challenging to learn more about Chinese culture (everything I find about China and its culture is heavily influenced by Sinophobia).

Personally I don't read enough books by Chinese sociologists and philosophers to be able to make a recommendation video about them 🥹 But if there's ever some on book lists like this I will make sure to mention them. I've only read part of The Analects when I was little, and unfortunately nothing from Mao. So I can't say if I would personally recommend it. But those are classics, and I think from those books you mentioned, you prolly can learn decent about of Chinese culture. I also am interested in your opinions once you read them! And thanks for pointing out the Sinophobia in books about China :)
Hi Meonicorn! Thank you for the video! It's really interesting to compare reading communities and to see similarities and differences. Some of the books on feminism that I'd like to read are not translated yet, but I saw that my library has the book by Silvia Federici that you also mentioned last week, so I added it to my always growing tbr. :D I'm also not the biggest sci-fi/fantasy reader (although I read Babel last year and really liked it, maybe because it has a big focus on language/translation which I find really interesting) but I enjoy a good mystery every now and then, I'll definitely look into Japanese mysteries.

I like the thought of a lantern festival! ❤ Have you read Iron Widow, by Xiran Jay Zaho? I am very excited for the second book, and have pre-ordered it! Very interesting video, as per usual! ❤
Haha the lantern festival is also a way for younger people to get together and look for mate (??? really don't know the right way to say it lol), like traditionally it's an event where young people can socialize and know each other - like ball dancing in the Brontë books. I have not read any books by Xiran Zhao, I've seen her on social medias though, isn't she very popular? Glad to know you enjoyed her books!
