Hearing the story of Leanne from Little Mix saddens me. She was spot on with saying if she was dark skinned, it would have been a lot harder. I honestly feel as if it was the same way for Normani in Fifth Harmony. Normani was always overlooked, would get the least amount of singing parts and would be deemed as the least favorite from the group. I wish all of these women success in their solo careers.
this. and also leigh anne was saying that during x factor in 2010, they shaved the side of her head and made her hair red so that she’d look like Rihanna at that time….
Definitely. If you get a chance, check out Leanne’s doc on black girls in the music industry. There’s a portion where interviews Keisha from the Sugababes who has really had a hard time in the UK press. They relentlessly labeled her the bully of her group.
@@KinectWars wrong. Lauren sung a lot on all their songs. It was always Dinah Normani and sometimes Ally. In 7/27, Normani and Ally were slanted to doing background vocals and some adlibs. With only a few songs them singing lead
Tells a lot about our culture/society that people were so quick to sympathize with Jesy’s weight struggle but so easily dismissive of Leanne’s treatment over her skin color
@@luxemeee3915 u can change being fat but we can’t and won’t change our skin… it lit 🔥 being black… she just been around the wrong ppl making think it’s not…when they secretly want to be a wigga…ijs 🤷🏾♀️
I don't know what world you live in because since she started performing she has been overtanning, it was only last year, after nearly 10 years together that Leanne said something.
I think the issue with group breakups is that everyone ultimately needs to be on the same page. When Destiny's Child (2.0) broke up everyone was on the same page about doing their own thing, which is why they remained friends. But I don't like this new thing where singers claim "mental heath" reasons ( Zayn, Camila, Jesy) but then bounce and drop a single. If they want to go solo go solo, and while I think these singers definitely struggled from anxiety, it always feels backhanded to leave a supergroup for mental heath reasons only to take on the huge emotional endeavor of being a solo artist
I feel like Zayn was the only valid one. I remember he got a lot of love but also the most amount of hate. Racist, islamophobic Harry ‘fans’ were vicious. Zayn, Normani, and Leigh-Anne have an extra layer of criticism from bigots, that sucks
i was actually kinda surprised that Jesy suddenly dropped a teaser for a single. i thought she leftthe industry for a while but her not-too-long departure from her group is too soon for a new single. i expected something mellow considering how she said she wanted to be herself again.
Honestly I think Little Mix are vocally the most consistent girlgroup these times, the way they complete each other is insane 🎀 they must be protected at all cost
For me 10 Years isn't Bad...They achieve everything they could as a group. They broke awards, they perform many shows, they tour the world and etc.. It's their decision to dot what ever they want...Give them freedom to do it...But I hope that Little Mix will not broke up and keep releasing music as group even do they all go solo👑😍
She never said she was the only one that was going through something. But she did say she was the one that did something about it. If you are unhappy and your mental health is involved then you need to do everything you can to be happy again period
Exactly, expressive is definitely projecting with this video. She's giving Tasha k vibes with her trying to twist this story into something else (and I like Tasha k)
Literally jesy even said that the other 3 girls went to speak to her mom & they ALL came to an agreement for jesy to leave and focus on her mental Heath. This whole video is misleading
'Cosplaying from a girl from the hood'....I couldn't agree more! I'm from the UK! She's from Romford Essex! A promidomnately white area just outside London...She probably never stepped foot in a 'ghetto' part of the UK....so the 'urban clothes, urban look, is all an ACT. Its not just about wearing baggy clothes because that's what your comfortable in...when your face is obviously morphing into the 'brought features' of a mixed/black women it's a problem. And seems like she's getting a hallpass because she got trolled for her natural looks....so decided to take the black aesthetic while leigh-Ann suffered in little mix for being a women with actual black DNA. KMT
All the youngsters are wearing this fashion hun it’s not that deep I hope Jesy succeeds the fact she’s getting so much hate is telling. Whatever is left of Little mix will be ok didn’t like the group tbh and she’s not tied to these people and owes them nothing … many singers sing about things they didn’t experience personally stop being a fascist
@@GodsGroupChat no one said they didn’t wish her all the success. I want every women to be successful no matter what colour they choose to identify as. Everyone can’t think and feel the same way, I appreciate all the points you made.
@@GodsGroupChat your opinion is going to be biased of Jesy because you didn't like little mix anyway. Just because I don't want to support a white women from Essex who sings about the hood it's being fascist?! No it's because she's a privileged women who is hyping up the 'hood' that is a real life struggle and matter of survival for people...its a stark contrast to were she's from.. Your reaching. Clothes are not that deep...but with the style of clothes with the darker skin, brought features to look racial ambigious is problematic. That's not black girl magic it's sourcery🪄
You can’t tell a person how to feel … it doesn’t matter if someone else is going through something to . You’re still going to feel how you feel cuz that is YOUR reality
Empressive was completely right about how she needs to be careful about cultural appropriation because I was taken back by some of her looks and imagery in the video. However, the song is catchy and has potential. She just has to be careful about how she presents herself. You can pay homage to the black artists/music that came before you without trying to come across “urban” to get attention since it’s trendy to be “in the culture.”
i think she'll have a west indian boyfriend. dem Londoner Yardies. this is where she grew up and just like Adell , the spread their wings into afro cultures.
Right. I used to think this girl was biracial. The craziest thing is when you do see biracial girls, people sometimes think they’re just white because of how white girls are presented today. They don’t look anything like real everyday white girls. Just knowing how white they looked before the surgeries and tanning just makes me feel weird.
@@JackDenn Exactly! Nowadays you can’t guess anyone’s ethnicity or race. Everyone is either mixed or one race trying to be another. It’s the racial ambiguity for me
She is a white ENGLISH girl. She needs to stop putting on this “ethnic” act and just be herself. She complained about how was bullied and compared to the other girls in the group and now she’s just trying to be someone she’s not!!!
Meh. The kardashians do this to the extreme. Nobody cares. She can tan all she wants, get all the butt shots she wants, lip fillers whatever, I could care less. But she is starting to be like lil Kim with the surgeries, it’s getting to be too much. Somebody should stop her before she ends up botched.
I’ve noticed how the fans are with Little Mix. They do hype Perrie up more than the other members. If Perrie ever decided to go solo, she would be a huge success without a doubt.
@@pretendfriend1417 Are you illiterate or just dumb? I said she's like the Beyonce of THE GROUP. Never said she was the next Beyonce or whatever you're trying to insinuate.
Hell, she almost killed herself which was so sad to hear. I don’t see nothing wrong with a anyone branching out and doing they on thing after so many years
I mean the other 3 girls literally went to see her mum, to discuss Jesy's mental health and they all agreed it was best for her to leave if it was making her so unhappy. So "abandoning" them is a complete load of rubbish.
As long as heavy hitting black artists keep co-signing this mess, these people will keep doing it. Since diddy and niki gave her the ok why would anyone think she’s going to stop dressing and tanning herself the way she does? People are already singing praises for her music and the video so she’s not going to stop smh.
It happened with Billie, it happened with miley...when will my people be free of this nonsense. I bet she's gonna transition to full scale rnb in 2 years when this whole "urban" shabang wears off😐
@Mia Esther no she hasn’t. Jesy is from north England, in a predominantly white area. I’ve watched her documentary (I empathise with her 😥), she just loves the r’n’b and hip hop culture really, ain’t nothing wrong with that. With her insecurities she’s thriving to be accept to the black community as the white European where very harsh and bully towards her. She’s looks absolutely fine to me, but in Europe for them, she’s doesn’t fit the European standard of beauty, this is why in Europe Perry is more accepted. Now that she’s moved to more urban these might change 🤷🏽♀️
Crazy how black women would create a song like this and won’t get enough play via mainstream yet we get a talented white girl who literally has a transracial look. No dis just an observation.
Probably because black people are a minority compared to other races. majority of consumers of pop culture are white so they gravitate towards people that look like them. It’s business, white people sell better because there’s a bigger market.
That last statement is facts. I do see Jessy doing a little too much, with her looks trying to reach a more urban group of ppl. It’s ok to be inspired and emulate your favourites, but just be careful it doesn’t become your regular thing, where we no longer see , but now seeing your alter ego. I would hate it if she keeps deep tanning her skin, curl her hair, wear big hoops, wear that gold crown on her teeth, acts hood and blow up big, when Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Cuppcake, Normani and many other black talents are still struggling to make a name in the industry for themselves. I am just being honest here. I wanna see the real jessy, with those beautiful piercing green eyes, that nice pale skin, with that undeniable, unique voice killing it.
Urban sound, urban aesthetic, urban look, urban lingo, urban-fishing.. can we PLEASE start naming these for what they really are? Black sound, black aesthetic, black look, black vernacular and black-fishing. People in the entertainment industry have done this for decades and it is just not right. There is a fine line between appreciation and appropriation. I wish her nothing but the absolute best, success, and a much healthier journey, but she NEEDS to be called out for this. It is just ridiculous. No wonder people call her U.K.'s Rachel Dolezal.
If she didn’t have Nicki and Diddy in the song I would see your point. She took a pop approach to an urban song. Makeup is a bit heavy but….🤷🏽♀️ it seems like she’s trying to find her style and look given her history with feeling “judged.”
@Valensaty Blunt would he though, he often pushed white and mixed women to the forefront over black women. Check the history books 📕 after T.I. co-signed Iggy Azelea I lost faith in the judgement of a lot of black men in the industry
I'm from the UK. Jesy has had a high profile battle with mental health and trolling for many years (this group has been around for nearly 10 years). I don't blame her for wanting to leave the group after ten years - she's clearly flourishing and making the music she wants to make now, so good for her.
i agree and lets not forget i feel like jesy wasnt blackfishing on purpose as we know ALOT of people in the UK get sunbeds which make them look darker or even orange
Exactly the music she make now that she's solo was probably in her already, she knew what she wanted to do. I'm so sick of ppl putting a title on someone because they feel like they shouldn't look this way because theyll be called this and that ONLY IN AMERICA
@@missfarida6050 I'm not even from the UK and know about Jesy's struggle with body image and mental health. Empressive just didn't do enough research on this one and it's disappointing.
Jesy's experience is valid, and the thing about emotional scars is that they are hard show to people who do not understand. So it seems to me that everyone has their own negative experiences in the group and those are valid as well. If Jesy choose to get her ducks in a row before leaving, I personally think that was a smart move. Lastly I think if she needs to go solo for creative control than by all means, she should, she is an artist anyway, right?
I think it’s wrong for her to lie and say she’s taking a break to deal with mental health issues but less than a year later she has a new song and solo career. I would of respected it more if she was honest and said she wanted to go solo. IMO
so happy to see you doing a video on little mix, regardless of where the members stand with jesy at the moment i still have love for them all and theyve been my favourite band since i discovered them
I knew Jesy looked familiar. And to be honest girl groups heck groups in general never last for the fact that too many personalities creates problems no matter how collaborative and understanding each is for at some point seeing eye to eye and growth of individuality will cause disbandment. Not too mention women get judged 100x over so they have the odds stacked against them out of the gate.
I wouldn't invalidate anyone experiences. We can say one struggle was more severe than the other but who feels it knows it and being fat shamed and torn apart day by day is a good enough reason to leave. Why should she suffer her mental health just to make everyone else rich? Let her be. She's happier and that's what should matter.
I love this channel and usually find her opinions very insightful, but this video is NOT IT. Jesy has a whole documentary about her struggle with body image and mental health. She tried so hard to keep her group together and I'm sure it's a great experience to have such a tight-knit group and travel the world with your friends. I don't think leaving the group was as easy for her as Empressive is making it seem and I hate the accusation that Jesy was manipulating the narrative. This video is really sad and it's frustrating to see Empressive pit the struggles of these women against each other. "Woe is me narrative"??? Seriously????
The problem for me is Jesy is doing a me me me thing. She's going around doing interviews about how hard it was, doesn't acknowledge the girls have all had struggles and never mentions how the girls have helped her. She's definitely been through a lot and should do what's right but leaving then cutting communication the way she did was not cool.

Jessy struggled because she didn’t feel as attractive as the other girls in the group , even when she lost weight , wore bigger wigs and got fillers. She was still not spoken about as attractive , it was deeper than weight . She said it herself she didn’t like standing next to the others its a self esteem thing .she isn’t what is seen as classically pretty in the U.k and she knows that . And she has said as much from the beginning of the group. It’s a vicious cycle of surgery makeup etc. But still not feeling good in the mind , she’s needs to work on that because she will not last in the US they will eat her up .
Jeraldin, to have biracial you need black. its proxy black fishing. she is not the only one in the group to sweeten her looks with a bit of black . the other half middleastern girl plays it up too. watch all 4 of them have black boyfriends. they look at black girls like " um.. nice cherry lips, i;m gon' get meself a lil sum " .

I actually believe jessy because she would have been stuck with that “that fat one” role even if she lost weight that image would have followed her. I would have left too, I wouldn’t want to be in a girl group because they barely last anyway.
losing weight is haaaaaaard as hell when your body isn't predisposed for it. its not good for the mental. i feel bad for her. i think she should have left the lips alone. those look like sandals.
Ofcourse it looks fvcking weird. Jesy is 30 year old white British woman cosplaying as 20 year old mixedish woman from the 2000s and how does she look darker than Nicki??????
Looking at her face at the start of her career I just realised wow, she is a white woman and looked like a regular white woman back then. I actually thought she is biracial (based on how she looks now and what I mostly see on media). That's kinda funny. She seems to be trying to look like a mixed/racially ambiguous person.
Can i ask something?? If we Filipino made a song ang music video like jesy nelson could we be called out too for blackfishing?? Cause we Filipino can be really dark ask other black people and white as a white people??
Empressive is really sounding biased here. Jesy never said she was the only one that felt a way but the other girls stories weren't her's to tell so why would she mention it? Nothing is wrong with leaving a group and going solo if you're unhappy and you're allowed to speak on what affected you. The song is fire though.
Yea Expressive is bias she’s not a non bias celebrity journalist. She voices her opinion often and a lot of the times, I don’t agree. I like if she likes you, no complaints. But if she does not like you, she knit picks and always mentions the negativities.
In several interviews, Jesy keeps comparing her experiences to the other girls/speaking on their behalf saying stuff like “they were so happy” or “they were having the time of their lives”, etc. she keeps speaking on the other girls experiences and making it sound like she was the only one who was struggling. That’s the problem, especially when the other girls have spoken publicly about their own struggles while in the group, especially Leigh-Anne.
Empressive’s views are always biased when it comes to celebrities she dislikes. She’s never impartial in her reports and is fooling her subscribers to follow her flawed views with her « sweet voice ».
Empressive, Jesy's style of singing and style has always been similar to what she's currently doing. She's always had a rasper voice and always expressed wanting to do more r&b style so I'm confused why you think this is all coming from nowhere.
ok hold up. why is empressive beating down on jesy so bad? i swear jesy said she wanted to start a whole new chapter and sometimes that means cutting off everything you were familiar with for a bit. can jesy and leanne not have their feelings validated at the same?????? hello??? you're now just picking at someone's experience and invalidating it for what? no respect. jesy is speaking her truth, so is leanne, so let them. ugh.
I'm glad that Jesy was honest, transparent and acted upon what bothered her. She represents a lot of men and women who always get compared to their friends, families, co workers etc. Some people live with it Unhappy until they die. some start resenting and hurting those they are compared to. She loves her band mates and she knew the only thing she could do was break away to create her own identity out of the group and to distance herself from the members for a while to heal because she doesn't want to hurt them in the long run. I think she made the right choice by leaving. I'm just putting myself in her shoes. I would've done the same.
She wasn't transparent with her group mates. Now, she's been dropped by her label. All of this drama could have been minimized had she been honest with her girls and in her statement.
Jade suffered with anorexia and whitewashing of her heritage by the label, Leigh suffered racism, Perrie suffered the WORSE bullying when she was dating Zayn Malik. Jesy is not the only one who faced difficulties and now is so into entertaining the idea that she was the only one suffering when she didn’t even acknowledge the hardships Leigh (or the other girls) faced when asked about her on an interview.
I actually really like the song. I didn’t know what to expect but it’s turns out to be pretty good 😊 I hope Jesy continues to grow as a solo artist. Wish the best for Little Mix
Jesy really did have a hard time. She had a whole documentary on bullying and the girls were behind her. Bullying messes you up. I’m not a fan of this narrative since I’ve been a Mixer for 6 years now.
Their popularity has not declined. They just had a number one in January and released one of their biggest hits, heartbreak anthem, this year. They also won the Brit award for best British group this year. No other girl group, not even the spice girls, have achieved this. This little mix tea is sooo old. Americans clearly have no idea about LM.
I was finna say the same thing. Sweet Melody shot to #1 right after the Christmas tracking week, and they were the only song in the top 10 during Xmas week that wasn’t an Xmas song! They are more popular than ever lol
If you've followed Little Mix and Jesy from the start, she has always said her musical interests lay in R&B and Hip Hop. Little Mix members all auditioned as individuals and then were later put into a group, therefore, their musical styles varied from the get go. Jesy during X Factor period displayed her rap skills and beat boxing skills, but little mix was always pushed as a pop group for commercial reasons. Jesy has always dressed more quirky and street and has spoken countless times on how her personal music taste is different from little mixes music that they release and same with the other girls as Leigh Anne said her personal style of music is reggae. Its important to understand in girl groups you have little say about how you present yourself and dont have much artistic freedom. And if all the girls were to go solo their music would vary from what theyve done in little mix. Jesy should be allowed to thrive as should Little Mix. I Support them Both.
Jesy had the same style as Cher (from x factor auditions) she was all about rap and hip hop which is why they added her to the group in the first place because they needed her "sound" yet her sound was never really used tbh.
......That doesn't excuse blackfishing and perpetuating harmful negative stereotypes. She is a white women marketing off looking racially ambiguous...You can love hip hop and R&B or street style without doing all that.
@@Everglow247 She doesn’t market off looking racially ambiguous. Everybody knows what race and ethnic group she is. Everybody knows that about little mix. I didn’t like the song or the the “urban” fishing she was doing. The original song was a big hit and this didn’t really give what I needed it to give. The saving grace of the entire song was Nicki, she gave one the best verses she’s put out so far this year.
She is not black fishing. Why do black people feel the need to jump on every bandwagon and attach themselves there. Let the racially ambiguous people take it up if they don't see a problem with it so be it.

Empressive, since you’re showing the UK some love, I’m begging you to cover The Sugababes in your next music documentary. They are the British equivalent to Destiny’s Child with even more lineup changes. Their story is definitely worth covering! Plus, the original members have reunited and are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their critically acclaimed album, One Touch.
Hopfully Empressive gets her information right next time. I thought Tulisa contostavlos put Little Mix together 🤔. I remember Tulisa being their judge.
Awww it made sense why she left, she didn’t feel like she was pretty enough like the others. lil Mix definitely has the goods and I think they will continue to go far as a group and solo. They all look good, and I like Jesy new track with Nicki. They are all beautiful but I always thought that LeAnn had it the worst simply because she’s the only black girl in the group. I’m sure there’s a little bit of bitterness towards jesy leaving, I’m sure that has to deal with the record industry keeping them apart. Also I knew the whole ethic thing would come up because I also questioned the direction they’re trying to go with her look and sound, I’m not sure if people will accept it, but I like it, I don’t think she’s doing anything wrong
For me they all went through dark times in the group but only two of them were more open about it than the others and that's why people think they can judge them when clearly NOT.
I think your judgement on her exit is really unfair. I've been a fan of little mix since the X Factor days and even then people would take jabs at her because of her looks. It reminded me of the whole Spice Girls situation and Geri (Ginger Spice) that left Spice Girls for the exact same reason that Jesy did. Except Jesy didn't wait as long as Geri to come out with a solo single, I think, and she didn't have as much support from other artists. But it was basically the same thing. The girls didn't seem to keep in touch and no one brought Mel B's experience in the industry and made a correlation to her departure because even though racism exists and it is always relevant to discuss it, it has nothing to do with the bullying and bodyshaming that Geri or Jesy suffered by both the media and the public alike. Now, with the blackfish, I actually agree with you. I kinda felt the same way (even though I'm not black, just latina, I always try to educate myself on these topics) because she really does do this thing that Ariana Grande does as well of "over tanning" (???) so when the song came out I sort of liked it, but felt weird about it. I don't know yet. I guess with Nicki and P.Diddy on the track/video it's better? Idk, It might be a wait and see kind of thing. She's walking on very thin ice right now on that regard. If she oversteps, she might get cancelled veeeery quickly. Edit: As I was kindly reminded on the comments, latina is not a race. So let me correct that: I'm a white latina. Hence why I needed to explain that, because racism is not a a experience a have, just something I try to educate myself on.
She got them looks together and bounced !!! It’s always this one in the group that thinks they are David Ruffin the assessment was fair to me and Impartial
I've been a fan of Little Mix as well. Jesy made it seem like her exit from the group was because of the music industry and the pressure she was feeling. So why leave the group if you're gonna stay in the industry that made you upset in the first place, especially since the music is pretty much the same...🤔
She chose a new Interesting direction and look 👀. I didn’t think she was white. I’m already looking at like she’s culturally appropriating. I think she’s going to where she will have more success. We know in the black community she would be looked at positively, because of how she looks. The people in her community called her names. I hope she doesn’t overdo it 🤷🏾♀️.
@@maybe8985 Yes that’s true but at least they give them chances to perform on National TV and promote through various interviews here in the west. They’re the only forgiven acts I see that are promoted pretty well here in the west compare to other groups from let’s say Japan.

I do not like her appropriating by black (or ethnic fishing) at all. Its personal. Those girls in the hood aesthetics are personal. They're part of my childhood and upbringing. I don't really have a problem with this but I just hate that it narrows the space for brown and black girls who hold this level of talent. Adele is a great example of a white woman who is from the hood in London but does not consume that space in the music industry. Instead she uses her notoriety to be ally of the black community
💯 I liked the song but agree with this. I think a lot of talented artists like Bree Runway should have a spotlight as they’re being their authentic selves. Like a commenter said Jesy is an Essex girl putting on the ‘hood’ aesthetic look.
Jesy was pulling a Zayn. I think everyone was really shocked by this Collab because they probably thought Jesy’s sound was gonna be pop but she went a different direction. Nicki killed her part as usual 🔥

First of all I love how you articulated everything! I also agree with your perspective on Jesy's leaving due to her reason being "trauma" vs Leigh-Anne who stayed in Little Mix even though she had more of a reason. The thing is the girls in Little Mix are fiercely protective of each other and would literally check people if they ever disrespect the members. They have videos online of each of the girls being protective of each other. I definitely feel Jesy just wanted to be solo. The industry doesn't get any easier or less judgmental by you going solo.
It wasn't about the industry, the team didn't care about her struggles at all and just forced her to continue despite the fact she had just attempted suicide, so she was convinced her problems weren't important.
@@jagp135 That was the initial excuse and why many fans were not feeling her when she said she was going solo. She didn't want to be compared to the girls, but being solo you are under even more scrutiny (if her recent controversy hasn't proven that point). LeighLeigh dealt with literally feeling invisible in the group and racism so if anyone I'd expect her to leave.
@@oddligames1592 Why do you keep comparing their struggles? They're completely different issues and there's really no need for competition here so please don't do that. Reread jesy's statement, because she never blamed the industry for making feel like that, it was all due to the pressures of being in a *girl band* .
Watching her (Jesy) documentary, my heart sank when she said that they’ve injected her with painkillers (paracetamol ) over all her body before a show when she complaint that she was suffering mentally and emotionally, where she had a breakdown. They told Her the show must go on😢… no wonder these celebs become drug addicts at young age. They didn’t care about the girl.
Ummm, it doesn’t sound like she “cut them off” at all. Things are awkward and both parties need more time. The idea that she left them high and dry is an awful thing to say about someone who has been open about their mental health crises, she stuck with at as long as she could and needed a change. If the girl ended up doing something tragic to herself then folks would be quick to say well, why did no one listen or help her. Idk, as someone who has battled depression and worse, the way this video is framed is not the tea.
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THIS!! I’m actually so disappointed in this video and the way she spoke on the whole situation. Kinda shows not too much research was done here. I’m from the uk and that girl has been going through hell for years 🤦🏾♀️
Real talk. The media had a constant field day terrorising her. She has legit been through hell and back, so I'm glad she's doing her own thing 👌🏽 This was a very biased video and lacked compassion based around the effects of mental health and bullying.
Its still fishy though, because she said she left for the sake of her mental health and healing, then 2 months later announces that she would be dropping new music, i guess her mental health healed pretty quickly right , and then a few months after that she does interviews saying she left the group because she didnt like that she was compared to the other girls, and she herself kept comparing herself to them, she felt miserable, and then she talks about body image and so on, so i am saying if she really had a problem with the comparing and the body image thing why release new music and go solo if things like trolls and comparisons and body image affect you so much, does her actions sound like someone who is bothered by comparisons cuz you will still get comparisons, trolls on your body image, etc. when you are a solo artist, what bothers me is she is not completely honest, true she experienced trolls, comparisons etc. But i believe she left because she wanted to do her own thing, be her own star, do her own music, there is no way that a person with all these issues would want to push themselves so much in the spotlight like that.

I’ve been a fan of little mix from the start and all of those girls have been viciously bullied online especially Jesy and Leigh Anne, so I don’t like how you said she was using that narrative to launch a solo career because I believe it’s deeper than that. All those girls auditioned for the X factor as solo artists so that was their initial goal from the start of their careers. The way you spoke about her mental health with that skepticism is the reason why a lot of women suffer in silence. Body image issues aren’t anything to belittle. When Zayn left one direction abruptly claiming the same mental health struggles he was met with praise for living in his truth while everyone thinks Jesy is being deceitful. As a fan who’s watched them closely I feel like her leaving was a long time coming just for the amount of hate she got it makes sense. I love all the girls and wish them success in all they do but wish reporters such as yourself would be a bit more compassionate when addressing sensitive subjects like this one.
Agreed!! They all went on X Factor to be solo artists...that for sure was their dream/goal. The judges decided to put them together, just like they did with One Direction and those guys are almost all of them now solo artist too.
Jesy weren’t the only one who was verbally abused they each were. But she’s the only one who’s spoken about it for years. I’m so happy she’s happy with herself. And I think she is going to finally reach the US market.
@Kaz racism is always present you can’t say it didn’t bother Leigh Anne . She just didn’t speak about it as much publicly, but to be treated different because of your colour is horrendous. Fat shaming is awful but you can loose weight , Leigh Anne can’t change her colour . Im sure she spoke about this with people she felt safe with aka friends and family .
It sounds like you’re blaming Jessie too for leaving the group too, so why would she even be upfront about it if she’s gonna get ridiculed for it? It’s her career, her life, her choice. She shouldn’t even have to owe explanations… and she has to deal with public opinions which makes everything complicated. So my question to you, Impressive, is how would you decide to depart the group if you wanted to do so?
@@Nasiapink0718 whatever her reason might be, I’m sure at least impressive understands Jesy can get a lot of blacklash for whatever reason she’s leaving the group and I personally don’t believe she has to give the public her real reason for leaving either way as this is her life career/business and she has the right to make WHATEVER choices she wants whether it’s leaving or giving a reason for leaving. Being honest doesn’t always pay off in the show bizz 🤷🏽♂️
If I have to call ALL the Dark Melanie Ladiiiies from girls groups, I don't think the word “Black Girl’s Magic” would be enough. Leigh-Anne, Normani, Kelly Rowland, Ashly Williams, Fatou Samba, Chili, Brandy, Naturi Naughton, and list goes on...Sending them much love and support 💙💙💙
To me, even if Jessy she has planned going solo long before, singing and performing with Little Mix was her job. Of course you need a sort of plan before quitting any job and Jessy moved on to go have some control over her career and life.
Its a BOP for me. This was a great collaboration. I've already listen to it about 5 times already. And personally, you can't really have an opinion on someone who says they're looking out for their own mental health.
Jessy started as a hip-hop, solo artiste. She gave 10 yrs of her life. She gave her best. She did well, as did all the bandmates. Congratulations to Jessy and may she go far.
So far as Leanne I’ve always felt she got the short end of the stick in the group totally because she was black. I’m not big on Little Mix like that but however I do know a few songs and watched some music videos. Compared to the rest she doesn’t get as much screen time in the videos unless the song has a hip hop or R&B type feel of to it. As well she always sings a shorter verse if you really time it to the others. I might be wrong on that fact cuz again I only know a few songs. But even so homegirl is the one that should’ve went solo before anyone and claim her time!! Hopefully she do just that cuz I don’t see the group lasting. Now as far as Jesey I am a bit conflicted now when you put the story like that. I’ve been rooting for the girl and still is. I see the black fishing and all that but I really just feel that’s more so her. We don’t knock black people when we dress in Japanese or Hispanic aesthetics… it’s just a double edged sword honestly! Like we can’t throw stones without looking at ourselves.
I’ve seen black girls naming themselves Asian doll and things like that but not wanting to look like that race I haven’t seen them activity saying “I’m insecure because I’m not lighter.” That comparison isn’t right.
Dear Empressive, Thank you for ALWAYS delivering thorough, relevant and thoughtful content. Through your channel I've learned about sooooooo many artists and discovered new music. Keep up the awesome work!!! We LOVE what you do!!! -De
Ok I'm biased because Jesy was always my favorite in the group but yes, Leigh Anne & Jesy were both heavily scrutinized by the public & the fandom since the beginning. Just because Jesy chose to leave & explain how the years of scrutiny was apart of her decision, it doesn't negate the scrutiny Leanne had to deal with. Both things can be true. Also, it makes sense that they don't talk. It's a divorce. A breakup. You can become friends again with your ex, if you both want that, but it rarely happens when the divorce/breakup is fresh. Now, I love Jesy's voice but not a big fan of the new song or the look. It's similar to some of what Little Mix has done in the past. Somewhat. Just amped up. It comes off as trying too hard.
I like that they didn't break up in a messy way. They're still friends and are there for each other. They reason she left was personal, not because of internal conflict. I hope both are successful!
As a mixer, Jesy has always been heavily hip hop street influenced. She’s never said she’s black or has never tried to act like it. She paid homage to Bad Boyz, she’s a dancer, her style has always been like that. And also jesy didn’t “use/push” a narrative. She was bullied relentlessly. She was a solo artist when she applied for X factor n tht was always her goal. Mad Shady empressive 😒get it together
As someone who has followed the whole journey of little mix (I’m from London,England) Jesy was mocked all the time. Even the night they won they replaced her picture with ET. The girls were aware of this and have tried to support her but they didn’t endure it. With Leigh-Ann that clip is only a small snippet. She did a documentary where she even admitted that she didnt realise how privileged she has had in comparison to a dark skin person. Leigh Ann when it came to her vocal abilities only started to get much stronger in the last three albums.
Leigh-Anne dealt with racism , jade and Perrie dealt with an eating disorder. They all went through shit. The difference is the put the group ahead of themselves.
Taking care of your mental health is very important and I thought she was gonna take her time and regroup. So this new song threw me off. I suppose we all have our own process. I just hope she’s taking care of herself.
I feel you 100% about what you said I felt like she left the group on purpose at this like she knew what she was doing but she and while all that drama going towards her does she use that for XQ and in her video it’s very nice giving black girl so she really does need to change it
Starting a new chapter is so therapeutic for some experiencing mental health, now she can thrive and flourish. You must put yourself first. It's a part of self-care and self-love.
I literally feel so bad for Jesy, like she was so depressed for almost 10 years straight, literally tried to commit suicide and people still wanna drag her for leaving-
Hearing the story of Leanne from Little Mix saddens me.
Little Mix didn't split up, but yeah i love how Leigh Anne had more singing time now and feels comfortable around her voice and inpowers everyone
this. and also leigh anne was saying that during x factor in 2010, they shaved the side of her head and made her hair red so that she’d look like Rihanna at that time….
Definitely. If you get a chance, check out Leanne’s doc on black girls in the music industry. There’s a portion where interviews Keisha from the Sugababes who has really had a hard time in the UK press. They relentlessly labeled her the bully of her group.
Lauren and Dinah had literally no parts in some hits of Fifth Harmony, Normani was fine in that level
@@KinectWars wrong. Lauren sung a lot on all their songs. It was always Dinah Normani and sometimes Ally. In 7/27, Normani and Ally were slanted to doing background vocals and some adlibs. With only a few songs them singing lead

Preachhhh

Lastly I think if she needs to go solo for creative control than by all means, she should, she is an artist anyway, right?
Right
Groups don't tend to last, somebody always goes solo. "Little Mix" has so many BOPs.
Most girl groups do last even with solos well atleast from the kpop industry.
She will go back eventually. They always do.
It’s going on 10 years of little mix they lasted longer than most, it’s about time somebody went solo
Right
I think it’s wrong for her to lie and say she’s taking a break to deal with mental health issues but less than a year later she has a new song and solo career. I would of respected it more if she was honest and said she wanted to go solo. IMO

To be fair to little mix has been around for like 10 years
Little Mix is one of the longest lasting girlgroups in history. Not many girlgroups have ever passed the 10 year mark
Yeah.
@@chelecovers6893 wow time flies
Little mix lasted pretty damn long tbh most groups aren’t still going after 10 years
I wouldn't invalidate anyone experiences.

Empressive is really sounding biased here. Jesy never said she was the only one that felt a way but the other girls stories weren't her's to tell so why would she mention it? Nothing is wrong with leaving a group and going solo if you're unhappy and you're allowed to speak on what affected you. The song is fire though.
Yea sometimes I don't be understanding how she be reaching so hard 🥴
Yea Expressive is bias she’s not a non bias celebrity journalist. She voices her opinion often and a lot of the times, I don’t agree. I like if she likes you, no complaints. But if she does not like you, she knit picks and always mentions the negativities.
💯

I feel like unless a UK artist isn't popping in the US they aren't considered popular.

Watching her (Jesy) documentary, my heart sank when she said that they’ve injected her with painkillers (paracetamol ) over all her body before a show when she complaint that she was suffering mentally and emotionally, where she had a breakdown. They told
Her the show must go on😢… no wonder these celebs become drug addicts at young age.
She has legit been through hell and back, so I'm glad she's doing her own thing 👌🏽
This was a very biased video and lacked compassion based around the effects of mental health and bullying.
What a shame that when someone says they were dealing with mental issues that people say they were pushing a narrative 🤨
@@yourgirlaby2824 It’s interesting because some people quit jobs for less🙃
@@yourgirlaby2824 thank you lol
I personally think her “new look” is a red flag and she didn’t need to go solo she needed to seek therapy.
Her new look isn’t a red flag It’s a 90’s theme video GET OVER IT
@@treymathews4561 calm down
@@treymathews4561 90s theme is having a dark tan to look racially ambiguous and having 3c curls now? LOL as someone who grew up in the 90s I don't recall a single white artist in the genre who did all that. You always knew they were white
@@avilik13 first of all her hair is naturally curly anyone of any ethnicity can have curly hair lol also jesy has always been kind of tan-ish people are acting as if she Perrie complexion also I've been a fan of Little mix since the beginning of their career and she always had that urban style to her with big curly hair and she always mentioned that her style of music was r&b
@@treymathews4561 its a song that samples a song from the 90s .. and I thought this chick was mixed or black at first glance..so she must be doing a little too much. Even empressive says the shit looks fishy.. and even if it was all 90s themed ..are you trying to say that in the 90s everybody looked and dressed ethnic or urban 🤣🤣 making the same stupid comment everywhere to defend this broad. You get over it.
Agree!!
Jesy weren’t the only one who was verbally abused they each were.
But she’s the only one who’s spoken about it for years. I’m so happy she’s happy with herself.
And I think she is going to finally reach the US market.
@Kaz UK is the most racist in the world
@@imabosscanubeone6620 not while AMERICA EXISTS
Well her intentions for leaving the group doesn’t seem clear and consistent hence why we may have doubts on her reasoning for going solo

👏
Facts
