- An Architect's own home, Seymour House is inserted as a respectful addition to its neighbourhood, openly embracing the streetscape lined with heritage-listed properties and modernist gems. In crafting the dwelling, Lani Fixler of Lani Fixler Studio has created a place that is private and personal whilst also engaging in an open conversation with the surrounds.
Located in a south-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Seymour House is an architect’s own home that draws from Lani Fixler Studio’s long-standing familiarity with the built environment. The project is one that expertly merges personal responses with the contextual.
In the construction of Seymour House, a connection to the street was important, as well as embracing the constricted site instead of challenging it. Sitting adjacent to Harleston Park, Seymour House is an architect’s own home crafted to be a continuation of its natural setting, with only two concrete plinths defining the barrier between the public and the private.
Throughout the building, modernism is championed through a natural and restrained materiality with the use of concrete, terrazzo, timber and slate. The consistency with which the palette is applied - with blockwork featuring as both an internal and external architectural element - celebrates the environment surrounding an architect’s own home.
Expressing considered detail and the characteristics of an architect’s own home, Seymour House is imbued with a sense of personality that uplifts its understated aesthetic. Crafted to complement the history and culture of the surrounding neighbourhood, Lani Fixler Studio graciously allows past narratives to continue as new chapters unfold.

This is an unforgettable home. It successfully managed to make the design supremely beautiful and functional, versatile and customized, serene yet warm, but in addition to all that, artistic but not delicate.
The entryway-door takes my breath away. This introduces the quiet majesty of what has been created in this home.

Love the concrete elements. She did this in an incredible way that feels very airy and almost cathedral-like. Cool contrast between the outdoor and modern interior. Love this! Also great use of black and light color palettes inside.
The dog art is terrifying--like a ghostly human torso floating about in a sheet. Did you see how it moved from 2:37 to 4:31? (Magnificent home, though--and great gin, too!)
this is surely one of the best houses i’ve seen EVER. i love how there’s so many sentimental things about this house, which makes this mean a lot more. don’t even get me started about the palette, i’m absolutely in love with the colors and how it complements each other really well.

House design, specially the entrance looks very modern Japanese homes. Removing shoes is a very hygienic habit for the entire family, specially great for children's safety. Very clean, minimalist zen design. Loved it 💕 👍😊

Lovely and tastefully done with just an ample mixture of concrete, well-chosen fixtures, furnishings, and wood The touches and influence of MCM and Danish aesthetics definitely brought and added a cozy and warm milieu that some current modern houses lack. Congratulations.

I love the open front to the street, without a fence. this is something I'm very nuanced to as it's common in cities like Canberra but not so much in the other major cities in Australia, so this is very nice! the planning and details of this design and materials was very nicely thought out and very practical yet aesthetically pleasing

Beautiful home. Nice juxtaposition between warm, comfy interior spaces vs. wide open minimalist expanses that open up to nature. My only critique is the outdoor sculpture quotes too heavily from Joel Shapiro.

At time stamp 1:33 there is a shot of a metal and cable grid trellis for vine plants. Does anyone know if this is an off the shelf product, or if there are suppliers who can custom make these?

Very nice although l would opt to erect a proper wall in the front of the property so as to have a barrier between your front door and the edge of your property. You never know there may be some crazy covid masked Government Officer wandering around who wants to lock you up in one of your Covid Concentration Camps down under.
Although your garden is pretty and wild and natural and water sustainable for your area, personally l would go for a more manicured neater garden planting productive fruit trees which not only look pretty but also provide fruit. Form AND function.

@@PSGaming-jk3iz I'm not sure about the conversion rate of AUS, but in euros, a million would be waaay too little. I would have guessed 3 million or more but this depends so much on materials, etc.

This house is at 35 Seymour Road Elsternwick which hasn't been updated on Google Maps and you can see the modest house that sat on the block before this was built which really added character to the neighbourhood. It is a shame that the neighbourhood is changing so much. BUT this house is very beautiful inside, and overall is a plus project to the area.
Why don't these vids show anything about machine rooms or placements? Maintanance provisions are part of good architecture.
