Greg "The Hammer" Valentine talks about his father Johnny Valentine's horrific plane crash. On October 4, 1975, Johnny Valentine flew was in a private airplane along with Ric Flair, David Crockett, Bob Bruggers & Tim Woods. Unfortunately the plane crashed near Wilmington, NC and this tragedy would change the course of wrestling history forever.

I remember that day at breakfast table and mom and dad acting nervous. I asked them what was up and they showed me the paper with news of this disaster. I was so sad. I was 14.
Same breakfast table where some yrs before, they broke Bruce Lee's death to me. I loved him back then.

Seen Gregs Dad wrestle Tiget Jeet Singh at Maple Leaf Gardens . I just stood there are a 7 yr old in shock awe on what i witnessed. It was for i believe the North American Heavyweight Championship might had been the US ? His dad still had stitches in his forehead from being attacked the week before .
His Dad was a true gridder nothing fancy the blonde bomber from Delaware
It was actually 1975 not 76- same year of Buddy Colts crash.

I’d heard Greg say that Ric didn’t really break his back (which of course explains his ability to come back from it so quickly), but after hearing him describe his dad’s “brutal” injuries, now I know why that whole “Ric broke his back” thing still seems to chafe him all these years later. Love the hammer but FFS Flair DID break his back in multiple places. Breaking your back doesn't always equal being paralyzed like his Dad was. Not sure what Greg's angle is here but it's BS and I am not a Flair fan.
