Returning contenders like 2-time 125cc champ James Stewart, Andrew Short, Tim Ferry, Michael Byrne, Mike Alessi, Davi Millsaps, 2005 125cc champ Ivan Tedesco, 2007 MX Lites/250cc runner up Ben Townley, 450cc rookie Josh HIll, Gavin Gracyk, Suzuki New Zealand transplant Cody Cooper and others battle it out for 2008 Toyota Motocross (450cc) Championship presented by FMF. This outdoor season is completely dominated by James Stewart. Foreign import Marc De Reuver makes his 450cc U.S. debut in this race, but his second career start (having raced at this facility in the 125cc class in 2001).
    Enjoy.

This was James' good years of his career, but his move to San Manuel Yamaha was the beginning of the end for him.

Lucky you that you got to witness this. Stewart was certainly on another level that season, but props to Mike Alessi for trying to step up and beat him until he got hurt at Red Bud. I'd like to think Alessi could have beat Stewart, but we'll never know.

JGR had a good run, 12 or 13 years. Pretty good for an independent team.

12 exactly since they were formed in 2008. Unfortunately, the team had been on life support for much longer after Coach Gibbs' son passed away (not Coy, but his brother). They did take in two of the best in JS and CR.

Funny how times have changed the mxgp riders are killing AMA MX when they race

In a sense, I agree, but if you're talking about the des Nations, Team USA hasn't won since 2011 and it's been 9 agonizing years. I think that started when Villopoto underwent knee surgery; they coulda won in 2016 if Webb and Barcia I believe just nailed their starts in the 3rd race.

They should be, they have full works bikes no production rule, train year round and test solely for moto, so the bike is dialed. We get 2 weeks of testing at most for top 450 guys before the nationals start, thats nothing. if you're out of the supercross title hunt then you may get a couple extra weeks to get the bike as close as you can, then it's race your body into outdoor shape and use the first couple rounds as testing for the bike and hopefully by round 3 or 4 it'll be pretty dialed. MXGP guys don't have any of those issues since that's all they do lol. It's an entirely different world.
Mainly we focus on supercross, we have months to prepare both physically in boot camp and then get the bikes settings as close as possible before Anaheim. If we focused year round on motocross like they do then we'd be right there, the only advantage they'd have at that point is no production rule and racing rougher tracks than what we do. Unless we take motocross more seriously (we won't, supercross is where the money is at) then as a whole theyll always be better than us outdoors, it is what it is. They'll never be able to touch us in AMA supercross however, so if you combine both disciplines then I'd say Americans are still better all around riders than the MXGP guys. Either way, I have all the respect in the world for how fast JH, AC, Febvre, Gajser are outdoors... but as we've seen in years past with Gajser a long with this year with Febvre getting hurt at a mellow supercross in France, its just a different world and the way you have to ride supercross is so much different that it makes it even more dangerous for those guys than it already is

Funny how times have changed. The FIM can't fill a 40 rider gate for the MXPG's today, and they race in hostile places like Turkey, with probably more security than local fans, where they sell no bikes.
I can't expect the USA racers to be the best in the world after the FIM pushed all of our national track owners to sand them up. Red Bud used to scare me in my prime. Now it looks like a fun vet tracks, they all do. Of course, I like the sand. :)
