"This song is about R. Budd Dwyer, who was the Pennsylvania state treasurer. He was tried and found guilty of racketeering, bribery, fraud, and conspiracy. On January 22, 1987, he called a press conference where he pulled out a gun, put it in his mouth, and pulled the trigger. He died instantly as cameras rolled and people in the room screamed. At least one TV station ran the footage on their local news."

Filter is led by Richard Patrick, who had been a guitarist with Nine Inch Nails. He is also the younger brother of the actor that played the T2 in Terminator 2 (Robert Patrick), among other roles. This is probably Filter's biggest song, although they had some other hits through the years (notably Take A Picture). Richard also joined up with the guys from Stone Temple Pilots to form Army Of Everyone during one of Scott Weiland's absences from STP.

This main chorus riff is so fun to play on guitar. probably my favorite bouncy rock riff of all time.

The singer of Filter takes scream singing to a whole mother atmosphere! Sheer vocal talent. The band flat out rocks. Try their Spawn soundtrack song they did with The Crystal Method. It's called "Trip Like I Do".

What’s sad is he was later found innocent. He killed himself basically so his family could get his life insurance bc he knew if he went to prison, which was supposed to be the very next day, his life insurance would’ve lapsed. He knew he was innocent but the people who framed him had too much evidence against him, so there was no hope. He wanted his family to be taken care of. If you are ever brave enough to watch the video, there’s dozens of versions here on TH-cam. I watched it once, one of the craziest, saddest, surreal things I’ve ever seen!
This songs about the politician R. Bud Dwyer and him killing himself on live Tv. That’s why the lyrics say that the people there have a new kind of fear, referring to the people at the conference. It is also talking about how he tried to fight, butthe law won even that he didn’t do it.

Everytime I hear this song on the radio I always come back to the same thing the man he's singing about killed himself on live TV and the government office so his family would get his insurance knowing he help sending people to the death penalty that was innocent how does a government go about explaining that after to the families the peoples that were sentenced to death and we're innocent just my thoughts
