Zion, saw you for a brief second in line and spouted "Thanks for the content."
I live 20 minutes from the Limited Run Retail store and have been four times. Man, it's truly something. It's great just having something like this still around today.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Zion. I had seen pictures, but they didn't do this store justice. It's really like our nostalgic memories of the 80s and 90s came to life as this store. Complete with that dreamy pinkish glow. I really appreciate how LRG didn't skimp on any details. It really feels like they wanted to invoke the feelings we got when we were kids going to the mall, Blockbuster, or your local game store, but all in one beautiful package. I'd really like to visit some day.

Great video. This is the reason why physical video games must exist forever. You can really tell how much effort they put into their game store and how they respect the customer's wants and needs. I just really appreciate that effort

That cup you referenced is called the “Jazz cup”.
Also, It’s particularly brutal if you live in mid side towns in the middle of nowhere. Physical game shops are basically done. And the few games that are around at thrift shops and pawn stores are being snagged up by resellers. We are being forced online slowly but surely.

Zion-- you and I would get along very well haha. I also worked in gaming retail for 10 years and I'm noticing things in this video that are really great about the store! When Josh was talking about it on Twitter and sharing his vision for it it seemed really awesome and like it had a lot of potential, and I'm really happy with how well-crafted it turned out to be. I sadly couldn't be there for the opening but I'd love to go there some day. Looks like it was a great experience and event, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
On your note about reprints and stuff-- LRG doesn't do reprints, but when they order a batch of games there will often be different variations on top of the versions that are for sale. For example, when they were selling stuff through BestBuy, the copies that BB ordered would have different cover arts. Stuff like that! I know there were some store-exclusive variants there that people were clamoring for, and I'm sure there will be more again in the future, kind of like what they do for cons like PAX and Too Many Games.
Anyway, I'm glad you got your copy of Celeste and so many other lovely things, and thank you for showing so much in-depth footage of the store! Was really happy to see the info on the pricing in particular!! :)

I haven’t quite figured out the musical battle system but appreciate the extra mechanic. Still early in the game but I can already tell that Duster is a true bro. Less than an hour in I had to take a break and tell my daughter that Mother 3 is not gonna hold back on the feels and that it goes hard early. We’re both enormous Undertale/Deltarune fans. Hopefully she plays Mother 3 one day (it’d almost have to be a proper port for her) and then we can buy each other Mother Merch for our birthdays.

Gris is a good example of a game that had a very small initial print run but eventually it got reprinted by LRG, another limited game company (I think super rare games or special reserve games), and now it's got a retail release with digital revolver. Carrion is another game with similar multiple print runs.

A lot of the game stores near me aside from Gamestops have closed in the last few years so I'm super jealous of NC getting this store! The whole aesthetic with the neon lights and '90s floor is awesome and the addition of used games in addition to Limited Run stock makes it feel so much more complete. I hope the store does well because I'd love for more to pop up, you're absolutely right that online shopping can be great but it's not the same exeperience.
EDIT: also hell yeah on clannad! i bought that same version of it when it came out but i haven't gotten to play it properly yet

  • @BlockheadJiujitsu

This is amazing! And they sell retro games for a normal price! The store looks like an incredible unicorn of a shop where the vibe is awesome and they've paid attention to so many wonderful retro details in a world where games have gone mostly entirely digital and game shops are just sterile EB/Gamestops. If I had the space in my house to keep tons of games and have lots of consoles, I would absolutely set it all up so I could enjoy some of my old favourites. I'm finding it impossible to order things online at the current prices.

I was there for the opening, arrived at 6:45 and got through the line at 3ish. I was in the front of the line when you filmed the mega 64 guys 😆. Opening was kinda a pain in the butt (literally), standing for that long killed my back. But had a pretty good time and got a Celeste CE and River City Girls CE, along with like $400 more in stuff that day for the collection. I’ve been back twice since the opening since I live like 35-40 mins away, and it’s been nice to have a chance to actually take in things a bit. But they’ve been cleaned out of a lot of stuff already just in their opening weekend. Really hope they refill the crane machine soon, that damn thing has cost me close to $20 already and still haven’t won. It’s down to the bottom at this point, which ups the difficulty a bit.

I don't know how exactly it could work, but imagine seeing reprints of old Gameboy or DS cartridges. It'd be awesome if there was a third party company that was able to work publishers to make such a thing happen.

I had this idea, that there should be more places designed as experiences, let's say a 50s room, with old phones and TVs, etc.
I know that there are themed rooms on escape rooms and "adult +18" places, but ideas like that should be used for things more interesting like technology.
Also, were i live there are still videogame stores, the ones here don't have very good internet services so the physical place is still worth a thing... still, for older stuff it seems that independent videogame and MUSIC stores are the way to go there in the states and even here, i found "Lost In Shadow" on a music store, they also had Sega Genesis games, but when i got back to buy Sega Genesis games, i actually found a Genesis band CD, a cool store for me in both ways.

Limited Run lists the games as sold out after the date listed on the website is reached, even if there is copies left over still not sold. I did the research surrounding the company, and can tell you that the other items that you seeing on the website besides video games and t-shirts are not a mistake. It is part of the company policy that they run and operate by. The time that how long it takes to get you is roughly correct, at least it is accurate where we are living right now.

I worked at a used gaming store about 15 years ago. We really ripped people off on their game trade-ins. I specifically remember someone bringing in an SNES copy of Chrono Trigger with the box and manual. He was really excited to get a whole $10 for his old “useless” game. We then put the game on eBay to sell for at least $200 at the time. We had also gotten blacklisted from Nintendo for selling new Wiis on eBay for triple price when they were impossible to find at launch.

My Nintendo Switch gams took 7 months to ship over to where we are staying. The USB based game title just got confirmed to be finalized on May 6th with a 3 date change time window. The game title looked fun, and bought when just randomly opening up the website. There was another edition of the game title, but the storage box was too large for my reasoning to own.

Part of their policy is going through all of the coding of the games prior to releasing them, but that might not explain the reasoning behind it taking so long to get to you. You should have at least recieved an email or something from them when you purchased the game with the instructions to follow up as needed.

I checked the online store, they don't sell the Shantae Monkey and Elephant Plushies there. I need to go here 😂

I am fine if they reprint their games ( which is inevitable to keep retail alive)

What I miss about gaming in the 90's and 2000's most of the games released were at least good enough to be put in a package for sale or good enough at that time.
Now digital just feels like slopy effort most/some times and your chances of getting a meh game feel much higher.
However I have seen Boutique's like this before and they sadly didn't last as long as one would hope people just dont seem to go out shopping for stuff like this anymore.
    I wish them luck.
