People seriously miss the point of the character. Garret cares nothing about Chase. He doesn't even care enough to notice that he is telling everyone about the time she peed herself, even though he promised not to tell anyone. Because her feelings are not important to him. The whole point of that badly written poem is that he is only sensitive to himself. Just like he doesn't care that he is a very bad poet. He doesn't write poetry to communicate. He writes poetry because in his mind his feelings deserve to be seen as art. If you have ever seen the film you will notice that he is a spoiled brat whose mother completely shields him from reality, and he just can't believe that Chase is not in love with him, because he is in love with her. In his mind he should get everything he wants to have.
Maria Smith you are correct but the problem is feminism has shifted its focus to emasculating boys. When you emasculate a boy and teach him to live by his own feelings, this is the result. It’s also important to know that despite feminist attempts to demonize masculinity, the truth is most women prefer men who are more masculine.
