  • In this episode, I get to the bottom of the issue with the tailgate switch on the 500, and we look at the indicator issue on the fiesta ST

    I’m lucky, out of all the fiat 500s I have done I’ve never had a hatch wiring problem despite how common it is.

    My uneducated guess on the indicator problem is some sort of earth fault...I believe they can do crazy things. You need to get a wiring diagram and start checking basic stuff.
    Someone suggested disconnecting all but one light...could be a good idea. Work out why that isn't working, if you can get that working then gradually add lights until they all work.
    Presumably the indicator lights on the wing mirrors work on a different circuit...if they are use the same circuit that may tell you the BCM (??) is possibly OK.
    The crash damage may have damaged the wiring loom...causing the indicator fault(s).

    Great Job! I have the same issue with our 2014 Trekking. Any chance you have a lead on the wires you bought to extend and repair?

    Try with the rear lights connected the current flow maybe too low to throw the relay to activate the lights.

    Inspired by your videos Paul I have changed to my 5th car in 14 months of getting my license. I bought a Cat S repaired 2015 Vauxhall Corsa Limited Edition 3dr with 27k miles. The previous owner bought this car over 1 year ago through Copart with minimal driver side front end and driver door similar to your Fiesta ST. He won it for £2700 and spent a following £2000 to repair professionally by Vauxhall themselves. I went along and managed to purchase it for only £2250!

    Hi Paul,great video on the ST and the Fiat 500,the ST, would a alarm affect the indicators to stay on if it's got one,it looks better with the lights on it.

  • @jimmyjt16

    Probably a earth fault or a nipped wire. PDR will fix that dent for 50-60 quid

    When it was damaged I think the wires shorted the bcm's output to front indicators, so I would be changing out the bcm, do you have forscan?
    Re Fiat dents.. pdr? Or on A-pillar one spotter will pull that easy

    Whats with all the scotchlocks? I wouldn't imagine its been hooked up with a towbar.. A secondary alarm that's possibly faulty? I`d be checking for more scotchlocks that might have caused a short if the BCM`s flagging up as ok.

  • @ra52
    @ra52 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You never had the indicators staying on before the work done. My money would be on the new headlight is wrong or that something was damaged disturbed in the work. Have you fixed the loom yet?.
    Unplug each light unit one at a time and see if the indicators go off.
    Surprised about the fiat wire as remote worked I guess that must be signal wire was ok but main power to button was broke would of looked at that is not working at all but nice one Rob handy info plus saved you money although a beer may be in order lol

  • @Toby_the_Glen
    @Toby_the_Glen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    An issue with BCM would log a fault but only with higher level diagnostics, this could be something you'll have to look into purchasing. But, I suspect wiring fault. Just out of interest are the light units themselves causing an issue. Have you tried unplugging them and diagnosing the fault? Have you checked the loom in the front of the car for any other "mods" from previous owner he may have forgotten about?

I know they will only deliver them and not let you collect. Or are bidders buying cars without seeing exactly what's wrong with them.? Thank Paul. Any advice gratefully received .

  • @robthomas7232
    @robthomas7232 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not convinced there would be an error logged for your electrical issues. Regardless of that I'm not sure which odb scanner your using but something I noticed on my Mondeo is that when using a elm327 adapter apps such as Torque couldn't read all my error codes whereas forscan could. Forscan with a full switchable elm adapter on a laptop is very powerful and gives you a lot of data and config options for Fords. I'd try and get the circuit diagram and start tracing the faults from that.
    Also noticed the fiats windscreen is delaminating probably where it got hot and I'm sure you'll clean up that overspray on the window and scuttle plate ;-) but not sure i'd bother too much with the other minor dents. Good fix on the boot release and working on wires in that location is always a pig of a job.
