Yup, people don't realize that they're still animals. Knew a female dog, we used to hang out all the time i would cuddle up next to her pet her everyday. Once i was petting, got my face close to her (not that close a good relative distance, i wasnt all up on her.) And she charged at me, bit my face and proceeded to drag me around. Needless to say i was in the emergency room.
He gets up and stands higher than the dog to show authority. That was amazing. The dog wants to get his nails clipped.. he just doesn't want it to hurt.. poor little monster baby.. :)

My nephew who stayed with me had a half pit bull half Rottweiler. This pup acted like Cujo starting about 3 months old and would never follow my commands. When I would feed him, he learned he had to follow my command ‘sit’ if he wanted to eat. He would look at me slowly turn his head then sit. He would not give me the satisfaction. I loved that dog! He grew into a big heavily muscled dog but he was such a softy. He would love to get me to play with him but he had to act like he was going to rip my head off first. His dopey looking twin brother was a third smaller and a happy go lucky knucklehead until he got into a fight. He never would back down and never lost. Surprisingly, they both always new my labs were top dogs and never contested that and got along fine.

He's a pit mix that we got as a puppy (med size, not large) from our friends and as he got old (he's about 16 now) he tries to scare me to stop clipping or something. He won't bite me but I'm not taking the chance & use the muzzle. I hate to but it's for both of us 🖤

What a little sweetheart, the dog knows they need cutting, but has to express the anxiety. The fact the dog picks up the nail clippers and puts them back on the owners lap just shows the bond between the two. Absolutely priceless.
On a totally different note, I once had an inside cat who knew he needed insulin shots. I would call out, "Tommy, its time for your shot" and he'd come running and jump up on the table and patiently wait for it.

I agree with the love part but there are many ways to discipline a dog. Recently, I lost my girl after having her for 13 years. She was a big dog (part pitbull) and I never had to speak that way to her. But I also understand that all dogs and their “owners” have their own style-just not mine.

You have to be the master in these situations, not the friend. But it requiers a full confidence between both of them. "Ok ! I don't like what you do but you're always good for me, I let you do..." This can only work with the master of course. The greatest risk will ever be with the others, even the good Friends of the master ! Even if you know it for so long, you must keep a distance that Can save your hand or just keep you from injuries... I don't say it's easy, this is a very long term work that needs to be begun very early. But it always stays easier with a dog rather than a human... 😉😉

It's only a question of education. Your children would not bite you because of cuting nails ? It's the same for the dogs. You have to be the master in these situations, not the friend.
But it requiers a full confidence between both of them. "Ok ! I don't like what you do but you're always good for me, I let you do..."
This can only work with the master of course. The greatest risk will ever be with the others, even the good Friends of the master ! Even if you know it for so long, you must keep a distance that Can save your hand or just keep you from injuries...
