      If power levels mattered, Luffy would have died to Crocodile, Enel, Lucci, Moria, Blackbeard, Magellan (twice), Doflamingo, Cracker and Katakuri. If power levels mattered, you wouldn't have the need for someone like Usopp to save Luffy and Law from Sugar in Dressrosa, someone who could have literally ended the series with one single touch of her hand. And there you go

    • @uncleiroh4650
      @uncleiroh4650 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      False. You guys are thinking of power scales too literally. Intelligence and taking your opponent off guard is one of the prime aspects of a fight. It is often said a weak punch you didnt see coming hurts more than a strong punch you inticipated.
      Remember Bisky in Hunter x Hunter. While Gon and Killua were significantly weaker than Knuckles, her point was even someone *B level* can be defeated by a *D level* in the right circumstances. Usopp’s power is in his planning and strategizing. While Usopp would lose 9/10 times if he fought some of the opponents he has faced, he’s a clutch shooter. All he needs is to defeat them once, and that opportunity arises when the other party is still uncertain of his abilities.
      Luffy may get wasted by opponents constantly, but all he needs is one decisive when to be victorious. Think about it, Luffy wasn’t really stronger than Doffy when he beat him. It’s just that Doffy was so worn out from constantly fighting multiple opponents and having his insides mashed that an opportunity came. Weaker people can sometimes win matches, it doesn’t mean they are stronger, it just means they won

    Two points I want to make:
    1: your point on the marines compared to pirate "power" levels is really good and I think reflective of the worlds each organization respectively live in. The Marines are a regimented/structured organization bound by much more rules, so it makes sense that admirals are of a similar strength. Conversely pirates are so wildly different between crews, and again going off their bounties, are measured by their notoriety if anything which has no direct translation to skill. Chief in point: Kidd having a higher bounty than Luffy in Saobody simply because he massacred villages and such.
    2: on your last point, couldn't agree more. The random factor is what makes one piece so amazing! I love Dragon Ball Z, grew up with it, it'll always hold a special place in my heart. That being said, the rigid power levelling system and universal acceptance of Goku's dominance makes the story so boring by the end. There never is a percievable threat because you can tell how strong an enemy is based on what level super Saiyan Goku uses. And realistically the plot armor is so thick that you know he'll always won at the end. What I love about One Piece is that you can very likely have an enemy that Zoro or Sanji can beat, and Luffy would have a hard time with. Anyways, love the videos, keep em coming!

    • @tacosamurai1
      @tacosamurai1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leonardofarias8843 let's keep going with the DBZ comparison, when a new villain shows up and they square up against Goku and hold their own, you know for a fact that this villain would destroy Piccolo/Trunks/Vegeta etc. Whereas if Mr. 1 for example fought Luffy instead of Zoro, it might've been a harder fight than it was for Zoro. It's more organic. Better story telling, because it's a living breathing world with opportunistic moments like that instead of just "okay this guy beat crew member X, Just wait for Luffy to come clean house."

      I kinda like the bounty system because it isn't exactly power scaling so much as it is clout scaling where you have an estimate of someone's strength but it isn't exactly accurate as multiple things contribute to this as how dangerous a person is or how heinous his/her crimes are. We have an example where Oda shows us for example that the only reason Kidd has a higher bounty is because he murders people. Or people can hide actions they've taken from the world Government; like Crocodile and baroque works or Doflamingo and his Smile operation in Dressrosa or when weak ass Buggy becomes a Warlord. It's pretty interesting and is smarter than having exact numbers to scale, from a writing standpoint.

    I think another really important thing to mention is how even Luffy doesn't automatically win every conflict with plot armor. He explains it himself in Arlong Park, but he needs his crew to handle some matchups better suited for them. Like Zoro takes care of most of the blade people who would normally counter Luffy's weakness to sharp objects. Obviously the story is written in such a way that none of the main enemies will ever be a hard counter to Luffy, just a power/mental challenge to overcome. But if you pay close attention to some of the secondary characters that other people have to fight, you might see some that Luffy might struggle with more than the big bad.

Rayleigh was Roger's first mate and we know who they had to face in the Rocks Pirates. We haven't been able to see a lot of fights with Rayleigh but we can infer Rayleigh is in the upper echelon of power in One Piece.

I always got the vibe that anyone can beat anyone within the Once Piece world. Theoretically, Zoro or even Franky could have gone toe to toe with Lucci and win. On the flip side, Enel was super strong for sky island and against the Straw Hats, but if he were to come down and start stuff almost anyone with power could have taken him down. Point is, it's nice that someone like Zoro or Sanji could take out a main bad guy.

      Yonko is tough to define because it's unofficial, though any Yonko that remains one for a long time is presumably because they're strong enough for the marines to not actively pursue them or for the other Yonko to take their territory. But the crew as a whole can be a factor too so it's hard to judge. Definitely the people assuming Kaido could destroy Big Mom were quickly proven wrong, they both deserve their title.

      I Understand why it’s hard to understand just how powerful black beard really is. When I first started watching I also didn’t get the feeling that he was strong even though I knew the story was trying to tell us he was. Then it hit me and I realize he’s like Luffy. We know Luffy is strong because we followed him in depth from day one and seen him persevere through all kinds of struggle, power, and adversity. We’ve seen him punch through solid rock and seen him survive getting punched by people who can punch through solid rock.
      But when most people see Luffy they don’t think anything of him he looks like a scrawny teenager and acts like a goofy kid, he doesn’t come off as a tough capable future pirate king. A lot of the times when he’s fighting even his enemies think he’s just joking round (crocodile/lucid/doflamingo) not taking things seriously, only for him to tell them that he is completely serious.
      Same with Blackbeard. At least for me he just came off asgoofy, and maybe someone who can take a hit. Looking back at all his feats though, was a member of wb pirates, strong enough to be considered for division commander with no fruit, could sneak kill a yonko commander seemingly no diff, supremely confident he can take out any 100 mill or above pirate and become a warlord, Packed such a punch with just one strike to the neck that Ace was sure that he couldn’t take too many more physical hits from him

People contest Luffy not just out of headcanon, but b/c Garp and BB said that it was too early for Luffy to be called a yonkou. The world just sees him as such b/c they think what Luffy lacks in power he makes up in strategy, the only thing is the strategies put at play to fight the Yonkou weren’t his, but other pirate captains

    I think that the rock-paper-scissors element of One Piece has been much less common after the timeskip than it was before. The Doflamingo and Katakuri fights were fairly cut and dry slugfests that were won by having stronger punches and faster reflexes. From what we have seen of Wano, we can expect the Kaido fight to end the same way. Before the timeskip, there was a lot more variety in how Luffy took down villains, such as being forced to find Crocodile’s weakness or creating a one-off power up like nightmare or Afro Luffy. I, for one, am glad that this rock-paper-scissors element is returning, as it adds much-needed variety.

      Joe Star He didn’t really “win psychologically”, he just didn’t have as much on the line to win. He just gained respect for Luffy and didn’t care if he took an L. If it was to save his sister, for instance, I think it would be fair to say Katakuri wouldn’t have just given up or been so lax with Luffy, letting him get stronger. Katakuri wasn’t mentally weak, he just grew to want to see how far Luffy could go

Blackbeard is a huge threat to both the world and government so why wouldn't they give him that title? • @petersanders9455
    @petersanders9455 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amen. There's so many people that should watch this, seriously.
    You didn't touch upon this, but there's also another hilarious example of power-scaling generalization; the First Yonko Commander Level, Second Yonko Commander Level and Third Yonko Commander Level. It's probably the most hilarious system powerscaling folks have come up with; the first real Yonko structure we came along was BigMom's, and since she has 3 Sweet Commanders, people now uses this method to evaluate each crew. The fact that they are called "Commanders" comes from this, despite them being called Calamities/All Stars in Kaido's crew, Titanic Captains in Blackbeard's, and who knows what in Shanks's.
    What's hilarious is that, by this metric, Blackbeard's crew and Whitebeard's crew are automatically exceptions, as they have tens and more of them. And again, I love the fact that by doing this people forget that BigMom used to have 4 Commanders as well.
    It creates this discussion within the community in which "this character is 2nd Yonko Commander Level", but this one is "1st Yonko Commander Level". It's quite funny, because if you stop for a second and think "What does that even mean?", you'll see that it doesn't work. Most people refer to "3rd YC Level" as "Cracker's level". But Jack in the Beast Pirates is the equivalent of 3rd YC, but people say he's stronger than Smoothie, who is a 2nd YC. When Queen's bounty came along, people thought he was stronger than Katakuri: as he's considered "1st YC level", does this mean that Queen is... what, exactly? This is the issue. Let's put it in another way; Apoo is a Headliner in the Beast Pirates crew. Holdem is a Headliner in the Beast Pirates crew. Does this mean that there is a "Headliner level"? As soon as the Flying Six came into the picture, people started saying "They are the equivalent of the Veterans from the BigMom Family". Who the hell are these Veterans? There is NO VETERAN TITLE in the BigMom Family! Daifuku and Oven have the exact same titles as Compote, Amande and Opera. There is no title distinction in the BigMom Pirates, but since people think that Persopero, Oven and Daifuku are a cut above the rest, they call them the "BigMom Veterans" - including Snack who apparently, since he lost the YC title before we even met him, he automatically has lost power levels right from the get go.
    At the end of the day, the only decent "level" is indeed Admiral Level, for the simple fact that Admirals are chosen through a drafting process, meant to evaluate their power; if you're strong enough, you become an admiral. But even Vice Admirals are wildly different; just see Vergo and Smoker.
    At the end of the day, people would live much better lives if they just thought about the series and not about power levels. Now, don't get me wrong; POWERSCALING is important, but only as far as "power feeling" is concerned. It's relevant to realize that Kaido is insanely powerful, and that Luffy can't beat him. But this is all it amounts to.
    TLDR: Just read JoJo, and you'll realize power levels as commonly regarded in the Shonen Manga community are complete bullshit

    If One Piece needs some kind of "power system", I would say that there are 3 categories that may or may not work: Mentality, Experience, and Support.
    Mentality
    -Can be a way of judging one character's potential of having haki, and how strong their haki would be. But it could also show the amount of tenacity they have to keep fighting and win a seemingly impossible fight. Probably can also show the flaws of the individual. If the individual has a devil fruit, it could probably show on how flexible their mind is to use their devil fruit to it's greatest potential and then some.
    Experience
    -Basically speaks for itself TBH. The more fights you take part of, the more overall experience you will have, and the tougher the fight, the more experience you gain from that fight. Can also helps with making new techniques for your devil fruit if you have one, and increasing the potency of your haki.
    Support
    -The strength and the amount of people you have in your crew, and how much they support and trust the captain and their crewmates. The more people in your crew, and the more allies you have, the more overall support you have. (Think of it as a guild or a party in MMORPGs)
    I don't know if this works at all, but it's just they way I think of it.

      Rolando Gerola I’m not sure exactly what your saying but fights very different marathons. Better fighters lose to worse ones all the time (even in a marathon, the your time can significantly vary depending on how you’re feeling). The strongest opponent doesn’t always win. Yonko level is just a loose term. All it really means is, could a fighter go toe to toe with BB, Kaido, Big Mom, or Shanks. I’m not a fan of the term b/c we don’t know any of their strength, but by portrayal we all know there aren’t many people on that level. It’s just a guess on what level the strongest people are on, similar to when Mihawk wanted to see the gap between him and the “strongest man”. If you wan’t, you can just replace “Yonkou level” with “S-Tier”. S-Tiers would almost always defeat A tiers. A tiers would almost always defeat B-Tiers and so on. No Supernova can take on a Yonkou rn. No Vice admiral (besides Garp) can take on an Admiral. No one can take on Buggy. It’s all just people having fun guessing. As long as you can recognize your probably wrong in your power list it doesn’t really matter🤷🏾‍♂️

This whole "blackbeard is too weak so the gap is too wide" is complete bullshit. I believe blackbeard to be the strongest yonko either right now or as soon as Wano is over, he commands two amazing devil fruits (which we have never seen up to this point) and has had two years to train with them. In my opinion Yonko Level does exist but more like "Yonkos are at least about this strong" than "All Yonkos are around this level" for two reasons:
    1. Yonkos are determined by their influence on the world, particularly the grandline. You can't get enough influence, territory and enough fear around your name to become a Yonko without a certain level of strength.
    2. A more meta reason is that these are Luffy's last enemies. You won't have Luffy's final battle be him vs someone who is around Don Kreig's level. This is a shonen even though intelligence would normally matter, it comes down to strength and actual combat in most shonen.
    I feel the same way about commander level just on a smaller scale and more crew based than the entirety of the grandline. But I do agree that it extremeley broad and not the best way to judge a character's power.
    Matchups do matter also but at the same time, strength is just as important. Daz Bones is not besting current luffy because his debil fruit would be Luffy's counter.

      It's a special brand of autism that I'm guilty of. People like to know where characters stand in the world, for example could post-timeskip Nami take on Arlong? Those kinds of what-ifs are fun to think about.

    Great video dude
    I do really enjoy power scaling because i like thinking about how fights would play out but I like to think I'm not as bad as most, like when the spoiler think happened last chapter I was happy because its really interesting and cool
    Arguing on the Internet is not fun because 99% of the time the other person won't listen to your points, I've seen it a million times

    I like watching those discussions for the drama NGL. Everyone always has strange head cannon and I love it

    For the most part, this sounded more like a list of complaints than a discussion topic.

    Agree wholeheartedly man. They seem to forget what makes One Piece great in the first place! It's so weird. Also, people hate it when predictable things happen (a certain O-Lin's amnesia), they hate it when unpredictable things happen (a certain samurai wrecking yamato's dad). I don't even get what they want!
