Ep 2: Why we are leaving

- We have had a spell of misfortune, but then so many many others are in dire situations due to Covid-19. We are in good health and we are stronger than ever, but we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave the Chateau. We have been managing this for over two months, hence why we haven't been active on our channel, but we have learnt a great deal and had a scream while here - we are blessed for that. The tears have stopped now. Follow us as we close this chapter and move onto our next vintage adventure in France.

Yes, always hard to leave one chapter of your life and go on to a new one......never ends till one dies I guess. My husband and I have gone through many chapters in our 48 married years. The one I remember most is the one where we had 20 acres, built a pole shed to live in, had a big garden, cows, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats. LOVED that life with many fond memories. That is what you will have...fond memories of your chateau. But God leads us to new places, maybe there are people, places and things God wants you to learn and experience. Enjoy and grow where you are planted. I will still follow you guys, always enjoyed Anna's sweet spirit and amazed at the artistic ability Peter has....totally a gift from God. Carry on guys. We pay on Patreon because we enjoy the content so much we dont want to see it stop and we want to see it renovated and its a small amount we all put on Patreon which we think pays an appreciation for your content- We appreciate it so much and its a way of us giving thanks its not a charity, its a thanks for entertaining us
I think a Patron account is actually a gift to those who follow you and want to encourage you and participate in an adventure that most of us won't otherwise get to experience. No one is forced to join. But when I find myself looking forward to the next vlog, I become a patron because I know that that channel is adding value to my life and it is the best way I can say thank you. I also think it is only fair; you are providing entertainment to me and whether I go to the cinema, the theatre, a concert, I expect to pay for my entertainment and I expect the people providing it to be paid. Vlogging takes a big investment in time, skill-building and equipment, not to mention that, like any entertainer, you are putting yourself out there.
On another note, I too have owned old houses. It can go one of two ways: you can own the house or it can own you. With your decision to downsize in order to stay living together (vs. Anna moving to the UK to work to support the chateau), you shifted from being owned to owning. It must be a terrible disappointment to leave the chateau but a healthy decision for the two of you. Your attitude is great and so many people are cheering you on. Here's to a new chapter that includes a "new" wonderful old house but allows time and energy for love, laughter, playing and friendship.

Dear Anna and Peter, my name is Louis and I am restoring my thirteenth period home. All of which I have loved and poured my heart , soul and energy into. My first abandoned house I purchased when only nineteen years old. Today I am going on seventy two. Saving these homes has been my life and I wouldn't have traded this experience for anything. And yes, through out it all I also faced many difficult and hard times but was able to see my way through. One of my British Mum's favorite sayings was "where there is a will, there is a way". So very true,!. I have really enjoyed watching all that you have put out there and can't wait to see what you very cool couple are going to surprise us viewers with next. I'm sure it will not disappoint!

The work you have done is beautiful. Work to live, not live to work. I am doing fine after cancer floored me a while ago. I was living and working abroad. Earning a reasonable amount of money, but of course my contract was not renewed and no one likes to offer medical insurance after that. Long story short, financially I no longer have a regular income,but I've just managed to get some part time work for 12 weeks. It keeps the wolves at bay. My point, very loosely, life goes on. From the dark and difficulties there is new life and new things to enjoy and experience. When I first saw your vlogs I wasn't sure, but the more I saw,the more I enjoyed,then loved. I admire and respect what you have shared in the recent challenges. I look forward to the new chapters. Thank you for being an inspiration. You have shown resilience and integrity. I also want to add that at the 13:00 minute mark, when you were replaying the past clips, I started crying because it was so beautiful to watch your dream unfold throughout all the many months of restoration. When I first discovered your channel, I just wanted to see how people can dream big and have a happy life through hard work and determination. I was living vicariously through your vlog because my life had basically self-destructed through so many loved ones passing away that it was such a joy and a bright spot in my life to believe again that someone else can have a life much better than my own and that dreams really do come true. Well, we’ve just had our morning tea listening firstly with sadness, then with respect and admiration for the passion and love you poured into Croix Honnet. It is now showing its glories thanks to the enormous graft and talent you two put into it, the next owners are lucky people to be following on in its journey. There you are, you’ve been missed. I respect the fact that you don’t ask for money like so many others. These people who bought a chateau should be able to afford it. I don’t own one because I can’t afford it and no one helps me with my bills. Having said that, if I had millions of dollars I certainly would share.

@@angelakilroe3271 that wasn’t their point at all. They weren’t throwing shade. They just said it wasn’t foe them. Their two close couple friends there both have Patreon accounts. So do a lot of people attached to that group. What they feel is right for them is theirs to decide. And they were clear that they had no issue with others using those programs.
You two have good values and keep to the principles derived from them. Old fashioned in the best sense of the word. I really wish you well in the future! You should make a living as interior designers because your taste is equal to your values.

I was so sad almost in tears for your sake having to leave the Chateau. I think I'm going to be sad about what you're about to say. You were "surplus to requirements?" Material things are just things, they come and go in the constant flow of life. They are mere instruments to implement and improve human relations, through work and common interests. Just think about how much closer you guys got as a couple, two kindred and loving spirits, and this is what the vlogs has shown to all of us. This is the REAL marvel happening, hiding between nails, hammers, saws and cans of paint...
I’ve been married over 35 years and lived in 16 different places owned and rented... each has created a memory. Travel safely forward !

You did an amazing job with the house. Sometimes our dreams are nightmares. Sometimes the house owns us and we don't own it. You tried it and it didn't work out for various reasons, maybe it just wasn't the right thing to try or the right time, it's not like you failed. We sold our dream home when the taxes and upkeep seemed too much. We downsized and are much happier. We have more time to spend with each other, travel and do fun things. You will be fine, you have each other.

A lot of these turn into money pits and require expensive renovation sometimes exceeding selling price so not really worth it unless flush with cash or have grants. Selling best often times because it's just throwing good money after bad and can consume you and no longer enjoyable.

Oh Anna and Peter I am so sorry, you have done such a lot of hard and beautiful work, I have admired everything you have done, but the treasures of France are only just unfolding to you, the Creuse is beautiful. I have moved twice in France, from houses I loved and thought I would never leave and each time the new home has been better and more beautiful. I hope this is the same for you.I now live in the Poitou- Charentes, just north of Poitiers, the light is beautiful here and there are so many great towns to visit and all the Chateaux of the Loire nearby, we rent out our house on airbnb and move into the smaller house on our property in the Summer, we had mainly French guests last year, covid has not been kind but we are thankfully ok. As you probably know it is better value in France to buy a house more put together than a wreck as work is so expensive compared with property prices. You are very welcome to come and stay with us for a few days for house hunting if you like. It would be a pleasure to meet you. All the very best xx
Dear Miss Anna and Peter, Thank you for your recent videos, they must have been very painful to make. We realized after the last video we were more emotionally invested in you and your Vlogs than we realized and were quite overcome with emotion unable to leave a comment at that time, although I did comment on instagram instead. You both have been so inspiring to watch with your amazing work skills, design prowess and work ethics, AND of course love of vintage. We loved watching you bring the chateau back to life!
I think it's because we've been in your shoes, and they can be uncomfortable at times to wear--- that is until the sky clears. Many years ago we purchased our own Art Deco 1929 house of dreams, we were happy fixing it up for two and half years when we too went through a pandemic of sorts. Economic crash, job loss, lost all our invested money when the house value dropped below the mortgage, ending up selling our house for $1 to save our credit all within a one year period. We persevered and moved on and built everything back up again although have been much more cautious since. Still have our Art Deco collectibles, but the house now is much newer, at 50 years old..
Anywho, we did survive and we know you will too. In actual fact we are heartened by your news today and look forward to your new adventures. Can't wait to see your new place and hear your new plans!

Anna, Peter, My heart goes out to you both at having to give up your dream of restoring the stunning Chateau de la Criox Honnett. I follow many Chateau blogs and am patreon for one...why? Because it fills me with joy to be a part of an exciting renovation with people who are producing creative, cultural, entertaining content with real-life problems at their heart, which I enjoy watching. As a BBC licence payer their offerings have been very slim during lockdown. As someone put it too many cooking and gardening programmes and bucketloads of repeats.. The most successful of the repeats is ETTC and all its spin-offs! At times there were 4 running in 1 week day on different channels. There is a real appetite for 'Escapism' worldwide while we've been locked down. I found your channel recently and believed you had a real USP in Chateau YT offerings ... A genuine Art Deco building and you two are genuine Art Deco nuts!!! (sorry hope that wasn't too offensive). I totally get your desire to go independent without 'asking' for money via patreon etc, but you always planned to monetise the Chateau, online monetisation is simply a different method of doing it. Because patreon is goal orientated patreons support the work to achieve a goal not your lifestyle. It's about saving heritage, culture and being entertaining subscribers and casual viewers by your daily lives, lifestyle, highs n lows of the endeavour... in otherwords.. DRAMA. We LOVE IT 😍😍😍😍. So, while you I believe have sold Croix Honnett it will hopefully live on with its new owners. Please, be very proud of your work on it. You have breathed new life back into it. It may well reappear on YP and I, like so many, will be interested to see its development. May I wish you both continued success in your new venture.. You're creative, hard-working people. Its a shame that you are leaving your chateau after the hard work you have both put in. But im sure you have done it for the right reasons..
