Thank you Phil and Sue! I remember living in the Bahamas in 1990 and seen Julian Cope on a MTV Video..I purchased Peggy Suicide which was excellent..He always seemed like a very interesting and open man.. I will check out his other albums..Definitely would enjoy paging through his Book..Thanks again for great content and your lovely wife’s contribution
Julian’s Krautrocksampler and Japrocksampler were music bibles for me growing up. I’m so glad my dad had copies to loan me. Those books ripped open my music world when I first read them.
What a nice couple😊 you complement each other great, that reminds me of my former partnership, my fiancée had her own vinyl collection and a similar taste as me, so we had a good exchange, I will listen to these records that I only know a little, I would like to change the title of the album instead of World ...better to Politicians...! I like the clear British accent of your nice wife, very easy to understand for me as a German, kind regards from Berlin.
Fantastic episode, Phil and Sue. The Julian Cope, Archdrude, is an absolute legend, one of my all time heroes. I'm sure you've got his autobiographies, both so well written. I've also got the Modern Antiquarian, and saw him at the book launch at either Tower Records or Virgin, Piccadilly Circus. Great looking reissues!
Loved this. It's good to see Cope's back catalogue getting reissued. Hopefully they'll make it through to the brilliant Jehovahkill album from '92. The Phil & Sue review show is You Tube Gold. I found myself smiling from start to finish.
Just enjoyed the Teardrop box set Culture Bunker 1978-1982 when you came out with this. A mind of his own and I shall enjoy exploring it further with these reissues. He's written some worthwhile books as well and would recommend Head-On, Repossessed and if you can find them, his Krautrocksampler and Japrocksampler. Nice joint effort from you both!🙂
Should take this opportunity to check his stuff out, not listened to it for a while. Got the Teardrop Explodes cd set the other year, but have no JC solo. Have the book you have which is a great read. Believe he did an excellent tome on Krautrock too (another subject I believe is dear to his heart and is quite an authority on).
Thank you both for this presentation. What a wonderful couple! I have similar musical tastes to both of you, and it's nice to know that there are people in the world that appreciate music like this from artists like this. Question: do either of you know or like Chameleons? Fantastic band that are currently enjoying a bit of resurrection. Be well, and know that I always enjoy your programs.
Hi Jeff, thank you 🙏 I am very aware of the name and remember them being in the music magazines all the time but never really checked them out. What would be a good album to start with ?
Sue has good musical taste! I remember a mate of mine introducing me to "World Shut Your Mouth" and "Fried" when I was probably at the height of my "metal era" and I just thought "Wow!" I have always just thought of those two albums as being two very upbeat power pop albums with just great songwriting on them. Later on I got into "Saint Julian" because "Trampolene" is definitely one of my favourite JC tracks, though I don't think there's a bad song on all three albums. The CD remasters of all three are great too, with lots of BBC session bonus tracks. Strangely, I've never gone beyond those three albums or any Teardrop Explodes stuff (apart from the singles) but I can't think of a reason why not except never getting around to it - which needs to change. Can I also credit him as a bloody good author with a great taste in music? His book "Copendium" which covers a history of "K***trock" (one of my favourite genres without wishing to cause any offence to any German viewers) is just brilliant and really led me to discover some great artists I never even knew existed.
@@sueastonmusicI was born in Lower Loveday St. Raised in Great Barr, and lived in Water Orton for a while. The Beehive in Curdworth was a regular haunt at one time. Incidentally, I play drums in a band called "More Than Blue", and our Keyboard player vocalist was at school with Julian Cope. I think they were in a band together at one time.
Hi Phil and Sue
We now have the dynamic duo!
Keep the uploads coming.
Will do ! Thank you for the encouragement - Phil
Mrs Aston has very good taste - Julian Cope is a national treasure - Peggy Suicide is my favourite and his autobiography’s are great too
Thank you Phil and Sue for your enthusiasm and lovely vibe!
Thank you 🙏
Just got back into Sir Julian last few months…. Eccentric Genius!
PS You two make a fun team !

Huge fan of Julian Cope! Oddly isn't mentioned that often and he has a huge body of work! Still putting interesting stuff out!
I only have Jehovah Kill , the SD two set cd.
Love Tear-drop Explodes and I love Julien solo albums.
Great to see these reviews ❤😂

Thank you 🙏 I feel so lucky being able to cover so many different artists here .
@@NowSpinningMagazine It's nice to be surprised as well.

Thanks so much Clive! 🥰
Thank you so much Clive for your positive feedback - Phil
I was into The Teardrop Explodes back in the day but never really followed on with Cope's solo work. Will have to investigate. Cheers Phil and Sue
Thank you
Great video. Thanks 👍
Brilliant content. Thanks Phil & Sue, always a joy to watch and learn more about JC's catalogue.
Thank you 🤩
The best double act since Morecombe and Wise, I’ve never explored he’s music but watching this has got me curious well done you two 👏

I only have Peggy Suicide on vinyl. Nothing else. Might be a good idea now to give his other solo albums a listen. Nice one 👍
Brilliant chemistry between you two. Oh and Robert Plant is a big Julian Cope fan.
Thank you so much! I didn’t know Robert Plant was a Cope fan!
Nice video.😃👍

Thank you! I don’t know the Chameleons, but I will check them out! 🥰
Up the down escalator is the best know album. At least here in Canada
Sorry “script of the bridge” is the album
Escalator is a song off the album
Sue has good musical taste!

Hi Terry, thank you very much. I agree he is an excellent and descriptive writer.
Thanks so much! I will definitely check out ‘Copendium’! 🥰
Bless my cotton socks
I love 'Bill Drummond Said' and 'Sunspots' off Fried.....Peggy Suicide is a masterpiece!
Love Peggy Suicide, Safe Surfer is my fave track from that album.
Regarding Chameleons, I would start with Script of the Bridge. However, if you can find The Peel Sessions, that is brilliant.
Thank you 🙏
D'awww. 🥰
I know Curdworth very well.
I’m intrigued! 😀

Alas, yet another wonderful British musical genius who won't be recognised as such until he's left this world.
