So inspirational and motivational! I also don't niche down enough as I just lack time to commit. However, I sold 29 items in may so to see that I am obviously doing something right as my stats are comparable to yours, it really inspired me to keep pushing my designs out. I am tier 500 and currently have 359 items up. I know, because of you, that I can keep going to create that compound effect and hope to make the next tier before the year is out 🤞
Juna - the more you give the more you receive- you know that and karma does happen- they may copy you but that only drives you to do amazing things _ I see that in you!! Your a kind human- you will always do well and they will eventually disappear because they do not have your drive and skills- It takes a lot more than just copying your stuff.
Great video. Summer sales dip is pretty normal. Going for seasonal niches, or use the niches you identify with designs by detour and cross niche it with the ‘seasons’.
Wow your video came up after I watched was it Shimmy where he put you on the god tier for print on demand strategies. So have subscribed and excited to see if I can learn from you to start on pod.
Juna your composition for the ones that were copied were much better. Anyone could see it. Sad is when you’re small and have a cute idea and someone big copies you that has more money to advertise or man power…if someone copies something you do but makes it better good for the customer in the end. This is how we get better stuff day by day. Competition is king. Love your videos!
Yeah I had a copycat that stole one of my designs for Easter. They just changed the pose of the character, otherwise it was a direct copy, same colors and fonts. The worst thing was they were undercutting my price which was effecting my sales. It was discouraging but I stayed focused on my other designs and kept uploading.
At this point my strategy combating copy cats are just to absolutely spam the niche with variations of my designs. I copy myself and upload 100s of them. My designs are pretty simple and I have slots to do it, but copy cats are a huge problem
I am only level 100, I am small even every few days I review and report exact copycats pixel by pixel, I cannot imagine the deficiencies that the big ones will have. Greetings and thanks for all your work :)
Copycats aren't competition...they're lazy thieves. You should find a way to share without exposing your actual stores. Your kindness and generosity shouldn't be rewarded with in such a negative way.
Hey, love your videos and the insights you provide. Ive been inspired by watching your videos and other POD content creators, however I find that I'm stuck on the first stage. I have niches that I'm interested in but I find it hard whether to focus on that niche and do different styles (eg. retro, anime, kawaii) or focus on one style but try different niches/ trends? I am also stuck on whether it's better to start on Shopify or other POD platforms since there's benefits to both. If I was to start a Shopify, would I need to make multiple stores to target different niches?
This is why I would suggest starting with something free to figure out your style and what works for you before spending a lot of money on Shopify before you know. If you don't know what style or niche to do try a ton of different stuff and test it. That is what is great about POD, it's free to test what is working and what doesn't.
Thanks for the great video.Yes, they are around {copycats). And I am only on tier 100, just made it myself up from tier 10 to 100 without friends buying from me or copying somebody's design. I climb up in tiers in 9 month, do not know it is good or bad but I did it by just learning and creating... My biggest concern now that people are using same promps because they shared or selling by content creators. So where will end up with the same images? texts? how unique design would be. In this case people do not even need to make an effort to create and think by themselfes. Rather than selling thoese promts I would highly reccomend just to show niche and ideas but do not share the promts. Thank you Juna
Thanks for sharing Juna! I love your dedication to Design with Detour. Sorry to hear about the copycats though. Do you make more versions of your prompt designs that you possibly don't share with the community? Also, are you still designing more shirts outside of Design with Detour to increase your daily uploads?
Can anyone tell me with these companies like Redbubble, Teepublic and Threadless if they put their own label/tag on the shirt or if its from a third party or do you have the ability to put your own.???? thanks in advance.
Aloha Juna. Big fan of your videos. I have a question that might make a helpful video. I was lucky enough to be tiered up to 100, but Amazon limits the number of products that I can create each day. So, I can only upload one design per day with all its products. Sometimes I have to go in the next day to add more products to an uploaded design. Can you please do a video on how best to manage your Amazon designs and uploads? Thank you for all that you do for the POD community.
I think you are doing great.... One thing I would say is that if you run out of slots I would remove the oldest design that hasn't sold to make room for newer designs... but don't remove designs unless you need space
Juna, have you ever posted an original image on one of your t-shirt creations, sticker, etc. and that you registered with the US Copyright Office and subsequently found your registered image used elsewhere online without your permission? If so, how did you pursue that situation? Thanks!
No... only because I don't register my designs with the US Copyright office..... by copyright law all designs that you create and sell online are copyrighted, "A copyright is secured automatically when the work is created, as long as the work contains a sufficient degree of originality".... but I have seen people use my designs and sell it without my permission. I usually contact the POD site to take them down
Yes, absolutely but it can take a long time and you would have to figure out what sales and what doesn't.... It's not a guarantee you will be able to do that. So yes, for those that can do that.
What should you do if you can't get an account with Amazon? Is it better to choose the paid version with merch sales on Amazon, which costs extra, or are there other sites that are just as successful as Amazon?
Great question... if you are just starting and never sold on POD before I would start with something like TeePublic to learn how Print on Demand works (uploading, designing, etc).... If you are more experienced and have designs that people will buy you could try selling on Etsy or Shopify but that's next level Print on Demand stuff and not the best for beginners
Que inspiración! Como se accede a vender en Amazon? No aceptan a cualquiera. Y otra consulta, tus ventas son orgánicas de la tienda? O creas contenido en alguna plataforma, tiktok, Pinterest o publicidad? Muchas gracias 🫂🇦🇷
Tienes que postularte para estar en Amazon. Si no entras sigue intentándolo. Utilizo anuncios de Amazon, pero la mayoría de mis ventas, el 90 por ciento, son orgánicas.
Hi Juna. Maybe you get this question asked a lot, you mentioned on your videos having a 9-5 job, since you do so well in POD do you plan to one day give the POD a full focus to make it your full time work?
I dislike it when I go to Etsy Or Amazon and put in a search and get like 20 of the same t-shirts on the search results. I Love your challenges. I love to challenge myself creatively, but I think a lot of people don't have that innate creativity and it's hard for them to come up with ideas, so they take from others. Sad true.
You make soooooo many designs, you are masterly talented……but with such a diverse and eclectic genre of designs, how in the world do you decide how to describe them so people will find them. This would make a great tutorial for people to know what to write and describe their designs for posting.
I really want to start with Print on demand but I’m struggling to find motivation and I don’t have the design knowledge. Your videos have helped me get a better understanding of design but I’m still not 100%. Do you have any advice?
Templates are a good start... I would also start to look at other t-shirt designs in stores or on Amazon and make a collection of good designs and learn how to make those. Not to sell them but to learn how to build them.
Hi Juna! Are you in the Artisan tier already? Teepublic changed my tier to Artisan but I'm concerned if I add AI designs, they might change my status. Thanks!
Yeah most people are just lazy, they just copy paste Still better than not doing anything but still lazy POD is like a small plant u keep watering it and one day it will bloom

Mad respect to anyone doing this for the whole year. I only did one month and almost lost my mind😵😂
It's tough for sure
And people wonder why most TH-camrs won’t disclose their shops. This is why.
I’ve had so many copycats steal my designs.

Honnestly they badly copy cat you.
